Yeah, you're dead on man! Kupp is the reason for two losses!
I love how so many guys want to put words on my posts....If you wanna look further into what I am trying to say.....lets just say, I'm implying, that if we include Sammy more and Kupp and WHOEVER ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO INSERT THERE, less, we may have 2 more wins...
Sammy's open when he's covered.
Kupp is a rookie...he's not Danny Amendola...he's not Rickie Proehl.... but he's a damn fine player....I just want Sammy to get all of the extra looks...extra attention...extra targets....especially in the RED ZONE.

The Seahawks Played Like It Was 2013 and Smothered the Rams
Is the Seattle defense of old back? NFC contenders should be on high alert.
BY DANNY HEIFETZ

The Rams entered Sunday with the best offense in the NFL, scoring a league-leading 142 points through four weeks. With running back Todd Gurley approaching MVP-caliber form and second-year quarterback Jared Goff seemingly living up to his potential, rookie head coach Sean McVay had cleansed the stench of the Jeff Fisher era. With Seattle coming to Los Angeles, the Rams had a chance to claim supremacy in the NFC West.

It didn’t work out that way. The Rams ran into the buzz saw that is the Seattle defense in a 16-10 loss to the Seahawks. Even without defensive end Cliff Avril, who may have a career-threatening neck injury, the Seahawks dominated the Rams in every facet on Sunday. Los Angeles turned the ball over five times, and Gurley mustered only 43 yards on 14 attempts, less than half of his per-game average this season.

While the Rams looked like the 2016 version of themselves, the Seahawks played like it was 2013. Safety Earl Thomas looked like his usual self, a.k.a. the best defensive back of his generation, with one interception late in the game and a forced fumble on a would-be Todd Gurley touchdown. That fumble resulted in a Seattle possession because the loose ball hit the pylon, mandating a touchback (NFL rules are dumb).

Amazingly, Thomas has done the exact same thing to the Rams before. He wasn’t the only defender killing Los Angeles drives, though. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson recorded his first career interception after he trailed Gurley on a screen and made an acrobatic catch off a tipped ball late in the third quarter.

Richardson followed that up a few drives later by picking a fumble up in stride after a Frank Clark stripsack, making this a memorable outing from the new Seahawk.

The Rams very nearly came back at the end of the game on a desperation drive, but a Cooper Kupp drop in the end zone sank Los Angeles’ chances. Now the Seahawks are 3-2, at the top of the NFC West, and have shown they still have a defense that should strike fear into every NFC contender’s heart. The Seahawks do have their deficiencies:

Avril represents a major absence along the defensive line, and they’ve struggled to string together consistent drives and protect Wilson with a patchwork offensive line. Luckily, a lot of teams have been inconsistent on offense this season, but few have a defense that approaches that of the Seahawks.

Seattle sent a message to the rest of the NFC on Sunday: The road to the top of the NFC West—if not the Super Bowl—still runs through Seattle’s Silver Curtain.

So force it to Sammy, open or not. Ok, got it. THE bottom line on the play was Kupp got open, Sammy did not. I'd bet big time that Goff saw the both of them on the play. He made the correct choice in throwing to the open guy. The pass was just slightly off. That play is NOT the reason they lost.

Merl, we haven't utilized this weapon....Really not sure...are we saving him? Is he up to speed? Is it not clear he's the #1 option on the passing tree? Wasting this guy while losing winnable games isn't cool.

Sammy got shut down man. And in a couple instances when Goff surprised by putting the ball up to him he was caught flat-footed and going through the motions.

When you have a QB like Goff who can put that ball into tight spots, receivers have to be ready every route. Even when they have over/under coverage or a DB draped on them. It was a bad game for Sammy, of that I am certain, and he'll either take the corrections that McVay gives him or not. Gotta think he will take them, but never know.

If he can't go hard on every snap in that way, i.e. if he's needing to get his wind, then he's getting too many snaps. No matter who he is. When you add up the couple here, couple there, dropped passes, missed opportunities, it becomes what we saw yesterday. Sammy is one of the most talented players on this roster. He has zero excuse to halfass anything because he should be an example for the other WRs.

McVay needs to let this offensive team have it man. And I am sure he is doing just that in the film study.

All these sum up how I felt as the game progressed... especially in that second half.
48 pass attempts
22 rush attempts
69/31 usually doesn't work.

Exactly. It was a 13-10 game for most of the second half. We treated it like it was a 24-10 game. There was no reason for us to abandon what we do well because we are trailing by 3.

Hell. I’m not over the Super Bowl loss to the Steelers.

Didn't the Super Bowl win over the Titans cure the loss to the Steelers? It should have...lol

We seemed to force the ball to Tavon to much. It was almost like they were trying to make sure after the fumbled punts he had a chance to do something positive so he wouldn't be sad? I get it, getting him back the ball to forget, but it was to much. We have too many others to try and force it to Tavon.
I think Tavon is being show cased for trade. The fumbled screwed up the plan so they fed him more.

I think they're simply giving Tavon the ball because he's a talented and dynamic runner. He's made multiple 10+ runs on 2nd and 3rd downs of 11+ yards. I also think McVay got too cute in this one and went away from Gurley. That included using Tavon to try and trick Seattle.

Too many teams I've been on....too many players I've heard speak on this....when WR's....as good as Watkins don't become involved EARLY in a game plan, they check out...not that it's right...not that it's totally unprofessional...but it's human nature to brood, be pissed, upset....
It would behoove this offensive team...to include Watkins, Gurley, Woods and even Everett..EARLY......just like Kupp, Higbee and Tavon....

I really think our 2 losses would have been easy wins if Watkins gets involved...early...

Didn't the Super Bowl win over the Titans cure the loss to the Steelers? It should have...lol
Hell naw....we were up in that one too...still a lil pissed at Pat Thomas, Rod Perry and Nolan Cromwell....shouldn't be allowing balls over your head at that point in the game....Especially after we re-took the lead. Ferragamo was awesome in that game.

So force it to Sammy, open or not.
Was the 4th down throw forced into....Kupp? Almost the same play from the 3rd down drop?....Forced...hmmmm....so it does happen....so yeah, force it to the guy that's done it before....I like his chances...it's Sammy Watkins.

The pass was just slightly off. That play is NOT the reason they lost.
The pass was fired in...it hit his hands...what? Now he needs a perfect pass....that's thrown a lil softer? Is that what you're implying here???

Never said one play lost the game....the plays I BELIEVE lost the game...in order

1. Fumble by Gurley...that was really an out of bounds play....
2. Fumble by Tavon....muffed punt...he's been shaky fielding punts all season...probably lack of preparation.
3. Int off Gurley's hands on screen....Pass was WAY too high.
4. Int....don't even remember the play...just KNOW he threw two picks.
5. Fumble by strip sack...not really his fault...but it IS the QB's responsibility to hold onto the ball. But Whitworth gotta own that one...beat so fast no chance....Should have been running the ball...

So those five....are the most responsible for the loss...and I'm not upset...hey we still could have won...just like Washington....IF we go down and score. Would have score too....if the wr had caught the excellent pass in the endzone. He dropped it RedRam...anyone watching the game KNOWS pros gotta catch that....AND

I believe Sammy would have

It was the one where he got hit just as he was throwing it... a fluttering duck! easily picked off.

Not on Goff... Oline got beat (I think it was Whitworth IIRC).

Unacceptable if I'm the head coach

not that it's right
It's not... he's on a team, stop acting like a baby.

not that it's totally unprofessional
It most certainly is totally unprofessional... no two ways around it. Again, you are part of a team, act like it.

but it's human nature to brood, be ticked, upset
Well, I don't want that kind of human on my TEAM.

Did we not learn from Britt... Cook... etc. ? Guys who, if they're not getting their way, pout and become cancers in the clubhouse?

Nah, I learned...

If (and I say if... because this is largely conjecture at this point)... but IF... this is the real (see, I used that term... "real") Watkins? Then I say let him go after this year.

Go destroy another clubhouse... pretty sure McVay won't put up with your kind of "real human".

Seahawks defense deserved some credits against the Rams as well as what their offensive-play screenings that the Hawks played to perfection. But here are some of the adjustments the Hawks did that somewhat alter the play-calling of the Rams in the 2Q.

1. On the fumble by Gurley that hit the pylon (stupid rule BTW), it was a HUGE momentum changer. YOUD COULD SEE the Hawks breathed a sigh of relief and their defense tightened up and shadowed Gurley and took away Goff security blanket thereafter.
2. Their Defensive CBs and LBs shut the deep routes and middle of the field from Watkins, Wood, Kupp and Gurley and dared Goff to go to the middle.
3. As a result, Rams offensive play then has to go through Tavon. But with the Hawks speed swarming to Tavon, it was more of a short gain except for that one TD by TA.
4. Rams did not use their TE set often until it was a little too late towards the end. But Higbee was opened in the middle. Everett was also open in the middle for the last play and somewhat held by the Hawks. Goff then went to Kupp, who was covered by three Hawks near him. The middle of the field was open for the TEs to roam, and the Rams missed on that opportunity.
5. The Hawks ran screens and picks against Rams Dbs and got too many 1st Downs from those types of plays against Rams Defense.
6. Hawks took the check-downs away from Goff. And with situations like that, Goff has to run and slide down for 1st down.
7. McVay's Red Zone play-calling is too methodical and predictable. Should have Goff line the offense up quickly and get the play in fast so the Seahawk defense is caught off-guard.

All of these are learning experiences for the team and hopefully McVay adjusts and be a little more sly the next time the Rams play against Pete Carrol.

Does anything really cure that kind of loss?

The Super Bowl win cured me. But, since we haven't won it again, the Patriots loss still kills me all the time. I wanna win another (hopefully this year) so I can just forget about them loser cheater Patriots. I never got to upset at the Steelers Super Bowl loss. I was just so stoked they played in it, and was such a good game; and I was only 13 years old then. For the Patriots, I had a huge Super Bowl party at my house with like 40 guests and it was brutal that day.

He's not the only one like that...Tavon is probably pressing due to inactivity....Gurley is probably PISSED as we write this because of his lack of use...one week after winning a game by himself. So he's cool, but I'd bet he's simmering...wondering WHY he didn't touch the ball more. Sure Woods...Higbee, EVERETT...all of them are a little upset at not being the focal point...and you want that..You don't want playmakers that are cool with not being targeted. I'm sure McVay knows this....I'm guessing Goff is learning this...Pro wide receivers are different. Pro running backs are different. They want the ball...not for selfish reasons always...some are great...like...they just wanna help the team win.

If I was McVay....I'd find creative ways to get the ball in his hands in the first couple drives...in that 15 play script. Running guys like Sammy off the team is a loser mentality....Sorta like running Aaron Donald off the team you ask me.

Yeah - any Super Bowl loss stings. The one against the Steelers hurt because we had them and we had come back from so much adversity to even get there. Then we dropped a sure INT, and let the Steelers do exactly what everyone knew was the only thing the Steelers could do to win. That was the last time I bet on a Rams game.

I had Super Bowl parties for both of the other games. The Titans game was a great, dramatic game. The game against the patsies just pisses me off because there is no way in hell anyone will ever convince me that they didn't cheat us out of that win. I will forever hate that organization and anyone associated with the team that cheated us. And it didn't help that the balloons I put up around my property for that game got stuck way the hell up in the trees from a wind storm that night. Those things mocked me for months.
