Washington is planning to start Colt McCoy over Robert Griffin III on Sunday at Indianapolis, per a team source.
While Griffin is not a part of Washington's plan for Sunday's game, he still appears to be a significant part of the Redskins' long-term plan, per another source.
Yet right now, Washington is hitting the reset button, though it might not last long, a source cautioned. Washington has high hopes for the coming off-season.
For the first time since it surrendered three first-round picks and one second-round pick for the right to draft Griffin III, the Redskins will have their full allotment of picks in addition to room under the salary cap.
Behind owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen, the team will be positioned to strike this off-season, spend big-time dollars and improve its roster.
Plus Washington hired Jay Gruden in large part for his stellar work with quarterbacks, and the team is convinced coaching, cash and patience can help turn Griffin back into the player who won the Heisman Trophy and Offensive Rookie of the Year in back-to-back seasons.
But for now, it has been a battle. Griffin III is coming off his most challenging NFL outing at San Francisco, where he was battererd in the pocket and struggled when he did have time to throw.
It forced Washington to consider a change that is expected to become official Wednesday, when Gruden meets with reporters. On Monday, Gruden said he intended to start Griffin III vs. the Colts, but he never fully committed to it.
Griffin III is scheduled to meet with the media in a previously scheduled news conference at 11:30 am, though it is uncertain whether he still will speak then.

Wow. So is Gruden fired after the year?

This is the prime example why the Rams should not sell the farm for one player. It's not worth it.

Soo...does Jay Gruden get fired in the offseason, or will they try to get rid of RGIII? That locker room is officially unstable and it seems that hitting the reset button may be the best resolution.

It's hilarious how much they gave up for him and he's turning out to be nothing special.

Damn, great minds think alike
It also shows us, how hard it is to find that franchise guy, and how important character really is, when it comes to that . It's huge, and some people dismiss it. Winston is off of my board.

Except RGIII was pumped up by the media for being a high character, hard-working kid as a prospect.

I've never heard anyone question Winston's film habits or work ethic when it comes to football. Now, his film habits on theft of crab legs need to improve. He clearly didn't see the store clerk lurking at register three for the interception.

I think he is off mine too. It's a shame to me he is clearly the most talented QB, but I can't trust the guy.

He has had problems keeping his weight down, that being said Big Ben is fat too and I think their games are very similar. I believe there has been some piling on Jameis, but he scares the crap out of me off the field. I have no question about his ability to be a quality NFL QB. I would be scared to draft the guy though.

I can't see Gruden getting fired.
If Snyder let's the players run the show, he's a fool.

Not this year. Last year, he gained weight but he also spent December going through the Heisman circuit. It didn't appear to hold him back and his weight has been just fine this year. I don't see it as an issue moving forward.

I'll take a risk on off the field character concerns if they have the work ethic on the field and in the film room. And they're not a problem in the locker-room.

Exactly my thoughts and I think they try and trade him next year and try to recoup some of the capital he cost them.

Getting benched for McCoy has got to sting.
How much will Snyder give to Oakland for Winston?

And, the signing memorabilia scandal, the point shaving scandal...when does it stop? Does it ever?
Talent wise, team, and I narrow it to that, team wise, and team leadership...he's it. Clearly, the #1 pick, but with too many ?,s for me.

Linebacker, no problem, but I'd still drop him a round. QB, and he's off my board.

You forgot the kicking puppies scandal and the punching babies scandal. It stops when people stop making false allegations. The signed memorabilia "scandal" was refuted. There was no scandal. He didn't do it.

The point shaving "scandal" was never reported by any reputable source because there was no story. It was fabricated by a person known for lying to get attention.

I'm sorry, Dr Ram, but those are poor examples. Both of those were baseless allegations. There's plenty to take issue with in his background but those two are not. They were internet rumors with no truth to them.

I heard them both through ESPN, I'm not trying to trash the kid, have no agenda, my son, an FSU student wa the one who told me that his teammates love him.

There is a lot of smoke around the kid, I have witnessed some of his bad decisions myself, like when he was suspended, but still came out for the game , fully dressed to play, another infraction, and witnessed his own coaches reaction to that.

There are major questions, man, you refute that, I don't know what to say. I really dont. Those things happened.

I saw them happen.

Quarterback is such a difficult position to fill. We obviously need one but now we are probably looking at Washington, Houston, The Jets, Buffalo, and Tampa Bay also in the hunt. Wouldn't be surprised if Cincinnati was looking for and upgrade over Dalton either.

No, they didn't. They were rumors spread around the internet. The point shaving allegation was NEVER reported on ESPN. And it never held any water whatsoever. There was no truth to it. It was fabricated by a guy that goes by Incarcerated Bob known for being a faux insider. He claims sources that he doesn't have and is known for reporting false stories. There was nothing to it.

The signed memorabilia allegation had more to it but when it was all fleshed out, it seems that it was baseless.
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...-jameis-winston-items-due-legitimacy-concerns
Freeman, through his agent Tony Fleming, acknowledged to "Outside the Lines" that the running back did a signing with Burkhalter after his eligibility expired and confirmed that Burkhalter wanted Freeman to approach Winston earlier in the year, which he did. But Fleming said that his client said Winston told him no, and that's where his involvement ended. Because Burkhalter was relatively new to the memorabilia business, autograph authentication company PSA/DNA had agreed to authenticate the items only if one of its authenticators could be present to see Winston sign them, sources said.
An official with the company flew from New Jersey to Tallahassee to witness the signing and stayed at the hotel where the signing was to take place, sources said. Burkhalter and some of the wholesalers of the signing had set up a couple of rooms full of Florida State gear for Winston to sign when he arrived.

But Winston didn't show up, sources said.
Sources said that hours into waiting for Winston to show, Burkhalter told those in attendance that Winston had decided he couldn't do a signing in the hotel room and instead preferred to do it in an apartment. The conditions? The authenticator and Burkhalter could not be there to witness the signing.

So, sources said, Burkhalter loaded the Florida State items into his truck and returned later with the items signed, telling those waiting back at the hotel that he had to give the batch of items to a person who then got the items signed inside the apartment.

Those who had invested in the signing -- paying Burkhalter between $30 and $40 per autograph -- were very suspicious, sources said.

Under the new signing conditions that occurred, PSA/DNA decided it could no longer vouch for the authenticity of any Winston autographs, a company official said.
"Outside The Lines" showed one of the few known authentic representations of Winston's autograph -- taken from a media statement Winston signed two months before the autograph signing -- to two autograph experts.

One, Rich Albersheim of Albersheim's Historical Memorabilia and Autographs in Las Vegas, said it would be tough to determine authenticity because he wasn't comfortable with the lack of verified Winston representations or exemplars in the marketplace.

The other, Ron Keurajian, a Baseball Hall of Fame autograph specialist, said that in his opinion, "These Winston autographs from the supposed signing are done by more than one hand. His authentic signature is very unstructured, which makes it harder to authenticate, but there are many here that actually are structured very well."

As for his character questions, as I told you, there are certainly things to be concerned about off the field. But the point shaving and autograph allegations are not two of them.
