I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand :
- Mannion has now had a very long time to develop and hasn't shown much when he had the opportunity to play. I think we are supremely fucked if Goff gets injured, alla 2017 Packers.
- Manziel will sign as a 3rd string backup for 10$ an hour. If he makes one mistake, you can very easily get rid of him

On the other : he might still be toxic and we have enough to deal with personality wise with that insane free agency year.

I don't think I would personally go for it, but Manziel has the ability to win games though and that's very valuable for a backup.

If Allen is not a guy that McVay wants as a backup for a couple of years, then I want the Rams to draft a QB McVay likes with one of the 6th rounders - and sign Kaepernick, who can play a little at least. I have no love for Mannion. I think he's better than he looked in one game with backup linemen, etc - but he's a free agent after this season anyway, so the Rams should be developing a backup, and I doubt Mannion would be as good as Kaepernick, who should be cheap if he wants a chance in the NFL again.

Kaepernick would be good under McVay, i am convinced of that. He would be a poison for defenses because they would have to keep Gurley, Tavon and him in check at all times.

Also I don't think he is toxic for a locker room. I would love him to be signed as a backup

Don’t tempt me sir, he’s better than Mannion. At least he stepped in and guided the Broncos to the playoffs. We need our back up to be good enough to at least manage the game(s) until the starter is ready
Which Mannion did that with the 2’s man?

Lol. So McVay saw it fit to upgrade Quinn and Tree but Mannion doesn’t need to be upgraded? That’s funny.
Not saying Manziel is the answer but fairly certain Mannion isn’t

We already have some large personalities, no way I put Kaepernick in the middle of that. He can take that circus elsewhere.

But I do agree with the premise we have risk behind Goff.

Mannion is still an unknown, as is Allen. I did like Brandon Allen coming out of college, but still an unknown.

Goff seems too skinny to not get folded the wrong way...But you have to act as though it might happen week one. We need a new developmental QB that could be an interim back up....or, an old guy who could play decent football for a few weeks in a pinch. Mannion had an opportunity after years of preparation, like Jimmy G. had behind Brady (Jimmy G played hardly at all in New England)

Mannion ain't Jimmy G. Hell, he ain't Case Keenum!

c'mon Coach, give a guy a chance!. What did you think of the dumpster fire that was Sean Mannion in frisco last year?

Mannion not playing with the first team, was under constant duress and you don't sign a boy to do a Mannion's job. Plus I want to see more of Brandon Allen.

After years of being a back up, he looked lost. he made me think that he doesn't belong in the NFL, even as a back up. jmho.

Wow - you guys really do hate Mannion don't you!

I'm sorry @LoyalRam but I'd want to stay clear of Manziel, the dude is only just on the recovery process, I hope he stays on the right path, putting him on an NFL team would be the wrong thing to do, for him.

With regards to his playing ability, I don't think he's a better option than Mannion as the Ram backup QB, he has a different style of play to what McVay seems to want from his QBs IMO and just doesn't seem to fit.

The Frisco game is a non entity, San Fran were going out there to win a SB, the Rams had had far too many starters not play. Apart from Goff, McVay rested Gurley, Whitworth, Sullivan, Woods, Kupp, Watkins, Donald, Brockers etc, this really was a 'reserves' match. If you throw in Mannion WITH the full strength O, the result would have been different.

Now if you throw in Manziel with the 2nds for that match, sure he would have made some plays with his legs, but he could have also taken a beating for it.

I think Manziel should go to the CFL, prove himself again as a player that has the mental toughness.

And you believe that Manziel hasn't looked lost when he's played in the NFL?
back off from the Manziel idea. the MAIN idea is that Mannion sucks so hard that he's almost gravitational.

Pick almost any current back up QB that you want, and that guy would be an upgrade on Mannion. I used Manziel as an example of a guy with talent, but has a compulsive, addictive personality who has reportedly gotten better. Pick Kaepernick, who I really don't want because of a different type of distraction....I think from a talent perspective, either is better than Mannion.

Yes, Manziel looked lost at times, partly it was from being hung over and the rest was all the Browns..nuff said,

I judge him as a back up who has been in that role for years, who had a full week of training during that week. It wasn’t like he had to step in unexpectedly, and he was horrid.

Horrid in your opinion, apparently.

I was at that game.

I’ll take Mannion over Manziel, thank you.

Can't judge him on that game, not with the likes of Darrel Williams at LT and Aaron Neary at Center, combined with secondary WR's struggling to get open..Mannion has shown enough in preseason, that with the one's I believe he's fine as a backup and again I cannot underscore the fact that I want to see more of QB Brandon Allen. He showed well for the Jaguars in preseason and has the ability to escape the pocket and run enough to move the chains, which offers the Rams a different dynamic at QB.

I realize preseason is not always a great barometer, however, Rams will have enough attention this season with some of the players, they don't need a Johnny Manziel, who, IMHO, is not worth the risk because quite frankly, from the neck up, he's worth a dime.

So being in the stands makes your opinion more important than being at home watching the game in hi-def?

We differ, thank you.

I wouldn't be saying a word if this was Mannion's first season. This was his 3rd full season with the Rams, so my expectations are different. I don't know this Brandon Allen guy, but I'd trust him sight unseen over Mannion.
