Shelton can move around the line, that’s super valuable. Hopefully they get something worked out.

...

I’m trying to adjust to a more modest FA mindset.

Midrange CB & Edge.. I’m thinking guys like Chase Young & Huff… not Hunter, sadly.

Is this really your thought?

If so, that ain't no adjustment ... That would be a Sea Change!

You have been Mr. All In ... Max-out Cap Space ... the Hell with the Future!

I guess what I am asking is ...

I listened to Shelton signing.Jake from state farm.Actually downtown Rams upset me in his know all thinking.

He use to post here a lot & I’d blast him.I’ll give my know it all thinking. I miss Bonify’d!!!

When Brian Allen got released it only proved The Rams made a mistake.Jourdan last season was saying Brian Allen was going to get cut last year which I lost respect from for that.

Jake said Shelton signing with Tams. It’s miss leading, but a deal should get done.I’ll give him that, but he losses Credibility if not !!!

First I’ll always say it,but I’m sort of wrong. The Rams shouldn’t have drafted Brian Allen. If you look back at the draft though it was a good draft pick.So we’re going back to 2018 & Brian Allen went to 2 Superbowls.

I thought Mcvay made such a mistake & cost The Rams but CUTTING John Sullivan. He taught Brian Allen a lot. Austin Blythe was The Man to carry it on to Shelton.

Brian Allen & Shelton have bought learned a lot & have been good with play calling with Aaron (Zak) Kromer.

All said is Brian Allen is a Center only & by not having a swing guard/center hurts The depth.By cutting Brian Allen it helps pay for Shelton.A win win because He beat Allen out & wait for it.

This Jake bong must be on his pipe ? Shelton means a lot to The Rams. His play calling on The O’Line has been huge.Plus Stafford is comfortable.

I hear fans say about what he isn’t.Has anyone looked at Long Snappers ? Back in the day Centers were that size.

Then all the Steve Avila moving to Center nonsense. Why would you move an All Pro LG to Center & think he can handle it at a high rate as well. Might look good on paper ?

We can all say Humpries is Badazz. Well I did like Badazz as well.He has won 2 Superbowls in 3 years. Excited to see Tutu Atwell this season though.

Dickerson was a guy I liked & wanted to trade up for.The Reason was he was a True Center. Was The Team Captain & Leader at BAMA. He was a STUD O’Line player though that could play guard. I bring this up because he has been playing next to a HOF type Center. Now when Kelce leaves Philly dies Dickerson start at Guard or Center ??? A good question & I’ll then know what another NFL team thinks besides The Rams.
The Rams haven’t valued the center position since Sean Mcvay (Snead)has been The Rams HC

McVay likes veteran Centers. Shelton will be brought back and be the starter no question.

Jesus, is developing players not a thing in your world? Sure, maybe he won't amount to anything but my god. He hasn't even had a full offseason in the NFL.

Edit: I'm gonna add an additional piece here. Outside of the top programs in the country, many of these guys have never had exposure to a professional weight and nutrition program before. This kid went to Youngstown State. You really can't even begin to tell what some of these guys on the line will look like till they've had a year in an NFL program and sometimes completely remake their bodies.
Hey man. Yes, I believe in development but I don't expect much from guys deep within the depth chart, especially o lineman. If they eventually start, they are usually the liability on the field and are doing their best to hold their own instead of being a difference maker.

There are exceptions like Jackson and Shelton that have cracked the starting lineup and showed promise, but then there are guys like Anchrum who was eventually given a shot but the difference was night and day as soon as Dotson stepped on the field.

They are useful. We need guys to challenge our starters in practice and to rotate in if someone misses time, but personally I'm not interested in tracking their development until they show something in an NFL game. That's just me.

It doesn't matter what we pay Shelton we're drafting a center with only 1 on the roster. Yes Avilla can play there but what if we're unfortunate and one or both go down? And with centers it's not unheard of for any round picked that they can start even as a rookie.

The release of Allen seems to imply that is the plan. Shelton plus a rookie backup.
Maybe they dont draft a Center to work behind Shelton. Supposedly they like McCallister, but who knows. They claim to like all of their backups.

I gave up on Jake a long time ago. He doesn't know the roster at all and it shows in his comments. He made a big deal about Corbett, and it's his sour grapes. Corbett has been a bust since he left in terms of availability. The Rams made the right move and if they can re-sign Dotson they will have upgraded the position with a far better talent.

The Rams cut Allen for two reasons. Cap and they have McAllister who looked good in TC and has been sitting on the PS for a year to play backup. Jake probably has never even heard of McAllister.

Shelton is a mobile center able to get into the second level to make blocks, which is something a lot of centers can't do. He's not going to lack for offers to start elsewhere if he becomes a FA. If they offer him Brian Allen type money he will sign. Remember it's all about the guaranteed $$$ not the overall. That's what will make or break any deal with Dotson. Big money overall means nothing if the guaranteed $$ isn't there as well.

Coleman played 1114 snaps last year, gave up 2 sacks, and probably about half a dozen pressures. By any measure that is pretty damn good when you look at the DLs the Rams faced.

I completely agree.
Most of the time, 1 year isn’t even enough.
I can also see where coaches don’t want to give up on a guy that’s improving and has yet to reach his potential.
It’s a real and valid strategy.

However. We’ve seen this team play with a very good oline and a very poor oline.
One is fun to watch and wins games.
The other is painful and frustrating.

All I ask, is that the oline is always near the top as far as priority.

i never expected them to pull all the levers. But I did expect them to pull some.
As an article today points out.. they can get to about $80 easily and, if I was them, that’s what I would do.
Just trying to read the various tea leaves.

And it wasn't for years. Glad to see them putting more resources there but within reason too.

You can't just spring this on us! You have to let us down gently.

Seriously though, we went back-and-forth a few times; and you thought the Rams were going to go big on creating cap space to make major additions.

I really hope we can get something reasonable done with Shelton and Dotson. Keeping the young line together is really going to help continuity next season. I'm hoping Dotson gets overlooked by other NFL teams and we can keep him around, I really think he's one of the key pieces to the Rams being successful next year.

You may be right that he’s brought back and will be the Day 1 starter. However you don’t expose a still prime Stafford to any unnecessary duress in his last 2-3 years of play. So if that occurs ‘There Will Be Questions’.

This is the possibility as Shelton as an 1-2 year depth player which is would be excellent as in regards to the G/C positions. If they are targeting a legit and dominate C Like JPJ they'd be in the making of SB starting OL and depth chart.
True, we might have a SB starting OL, but our defense certainly wouldn't be. Doesn't make it a rule, but the 2 teams in the SB this year both had top 5 defenses (but also top 10 OL's).
Anyone know how he graded out at the end of the year, btw?
PFF graded him 64.5, 2 sacks allowed, 6 penalties in 1113 snaps. I think that is slightly above average, which, on a OL isn't the worst thing if you have guys around you that aren't in the negative.

Definitely can be top tier if we shore up those weaknesses in the secondary, DT, DE, LB, and add some quality depth.

Curious how Shula will run his D, primarily with his coverage responsibilities.
