Their DB qb and wr grades seem very bizarre. I would guess Ramsey took a huge hit for the dpi that was out of bounds and there were some plays DK got open a bit but Wilson didn’t go to him.

Plus zone coverage plays are probably still assigned to one guy and not a unit as a whole. Just a flaw in grading.

True. Both (again, just "both") of the two catches for a meager 28 yards by DK Metcalf were against zone. Jalen did exactly what you would expect a shutdown corner to do yesterday. The PFF grading of that performance is garbage.

This is possibly the best set of CBs I can ever remember the Rams having and the Safeties are pretty good too!

I noticed early in the game Rapp was starting over Fuller and I thought that was kind of odd. But Rapp has been playing well the last few weeks and maybe we wanted to give Fuller limit snaps, perhaps he's not fully back to 100%. But once he came in after the Rapp injury the D got better as expected. This secondary is stacked from top to bottom and since like week 3 JJ has been playing great too.

Mebbe but don't you dare forget the Dynamic Duo of Pat Thomas and Rod Perry. Both of 'em were kinda small and all but they could cover and tackle as well.

DK Metcalf came into Week 10 as one of the most consistent and dominant receivers in the NFL, recording at least five catches for 92 yards in seven of eight games. Jalen Ramsey brought an end to the second-year receiver’s hot streak, though, lining up across from him for most of Sunday’s game and completely shutting him down.

Metcalf was held to just two catches for 28 yards on four targets, with neither of those receptions coming while Ramsey was in coverage. It was as good a job as anyone has done against an opposing No. 1 receiver this year, but Pro Football Focus didn’t see it that way.

Shockingly, PFF gave Ramsey an overall grade of just 55.2 for his performance against the Seahawks. It’s almost laughable how low that grade is for Ramsey, given the way he eliminated Metcalf from Seattle’s offensive attack. But it’s worth noting that PFF’s coverage grade is only based on plays where the defender is targeted, so it doesn’t account for a corner shutting down a receiver like Ramsey did.

At least PFF got Darious Williams’ grade right, giving him a 91.7 – the best of his career. He deserved a ton of recognition, picking off two passes, breaking up three of Russell Wilson’s throws and allowing a passer rating of 0.0 in coverage.

Jared Goff also received a strong grade of 82.0, while David Edwards, Rob Havenstein and Andrew Whitworth all performed well, too. Josh Reynolds’ grade of 75.7 was his highest of the season.

It’s hard to ignore Ramsey’s 55.2, though. PFF is a great tool to gauge how a player is playing, but with grades like this, it raises red flags about its accuracy – especially considering Metcalf’s grade of 56.9 was a season-low.

Oh, well that would explain it I guess. That's a stupid way to grade DBs though. So yeah I understand where the grade comes from since the couple of times they actually threw his way there was a couple of catches and a DPI on him which I still think was BS but whatever. Still, dumb way to grade DBs if they spend 99% of the game removing a teams biggest threat.

PFF uses a metric that was originally created for soccer, not the NFL. They "adapted" it to use on the NFL but it sucks. This is why virtually all professional coaches and evaluators simply don't use it. When asked about it most simply roll their eyes. The only ones who use it are the media and fans.

There are professional NFL scouting companies that actually do a very good job and have their own metric data software for analysis. A few of the media prognosticators seem to have access to that level of analytical software. Case in point, for years after the Chargers fired GM AJ Smith the Chargers had real problems drafting. Finally, their idiot GM began to consult with one of these scouting companies and their drafts have improved.

So when PFF ratings and grades don't seem to match up with what your own eyes see, then don't be surprised and understand the flaws in their grading system. Use Pro Football Reference and your own observations and you will probably be closer to the truth than PFF IMO.

Ramsey's contribution to this win can't be understated, as well as D-Will's outstanding play.

BTW I see Fuller as being a better safety than Adams. He's a glorified undersized LB IMO. His coverage skills are mediocre.

He was a team captain as a true freshman at FSU and won a National Championship. Best player in that secondary the day he stepped on the field. He's a true leader and competitor. You've never heard any of his teammates disrespect him or say hes a bad teammate.

The narrative that he was a problem was always laughable to me, hes never been in trouble off field. He talks shit on the field and likes to compete against the best, and that turns some people off. But hes always been a great player and teammate. Well worth 2 first rounders, a HOF talent. He rarely gets beat when he plays disciplined, the catches against him typically come when he takes a risk. On the long pass to DK today, it looked like he might of got beat but actually was a clear push off by Metcalf.

I fucking love this defense and Staley is amazing.

Jalen strikes me as a player who loves football and loves his teammates BUT hates the NFL and playing for an organization (kinda understandable given how JAX treated him).

From a coaching perspective I think extra effort has to be made to get him to buy in and keeping him invested.

i can remember 4 interceptions this season where he plucked the ball right in front of the wrs hands. it was all him. it was only a bad throw from the qb because he had the awareness and skill to make the play.

That is what really gets me about him. All the media (including RW himself) give DWill the credit on the second interception, and blame RW for the first. Yes, RW had a lane to run for sure and in retrospect it is easy to say he should have taken it.

BUT, what doesn't get mentioned is that the only reason RW throws it and passes up the run was because when he released it, dude was wide open and DWill was headed to the other WR.

RIGHT WHEN HE LETS IT FLY, DWill instinctively broke back for the INT. It was a thing of beauty that nobody is mentioning. I remember watching it on TV and saying "Why didn't you run, you crazy midget?!", then upon replay thinking "Oh, I get it, that looked like money"...

Until DWill makes an unbelievable play. Part instinct, part luck, I can't say. But a great play nonetheless.

In any event, if this guy plays even 75% as well as he has, we have a D we can ride deep into playoffs, no doubt in my mind.
