You could very well be right. He might have looked confused because that might have been a blown assignment by someone else.
What confuses me about that tho is NRC, JJ, and Joyner are all vets at this point. Two of them being seasoned vets. It's hard for me to believe that they would make that glaring of a mistake. I also think if they were making mistakes like that Wade would bench them.
The weirdest part is Brees throws the ball to Thomas 80% of the time. That's right, 80%. That's not a made up stat. Why would we be bracketing their slot WR when we know where the ball is going?

You point out some good things here and it's something we should all look at. If Peters is expecting help over the top or for Thomas to be bracketed and he's not. I can see why he would be confused and not set.

Good Catch.

Since I posted that I saw someone actually brought this play up with McVay at one of the conferences, or maybe it was an interview, and he stated that this was the intended coverage. So I guess no player was at fault aside from Peters simply being beat. But like you said, the bigger question is why would Thomas have single, man coverage when it's almost guaranteed Brees will go to him while doubling up the slot with no safety support? Have to put that one 50/50 on Peters and Wade I suppose. Either way, it needs fixed.

I have a question. If Wade doesn't have the proper personnel to run his 3-4. Then why is he running it?

I think it's because this team needs Peters to get back to fundamentals and execute. He's our best corner right now and the defense can't provide him support every play, he's gonna be out on an island at times in this scheme and it's up to him to execute.

Rams could go forward a couple different ways here. They could alter their scheme to make life easier on Peters. Or they can put him out there on an island in the scheme as an elite CB that he is supposed to be, and if he fails fix what is causing him to fail. This week I expect they'll be working on him going back to fundamentals and some eye discipline and if he takes the coaching and works on it the end result will probably be better than altering the scheme to support him while he freelances.

I get the criticisms of MP. I do.

He’s an easy target, no question. I’m pissed off, too.

But there is plenty of other blame to go around for that defensive fubar vs the Saints.

Poor tackling.

Questionable schemes.

Player communications.

Too little pressure on the elite QB.

Saints OL schooled our vaunted DL.

Wade and his assistants should be looking in the damned mirror this week. That first half, in particular, was embarrassing.

Ive read this entire thread and very surprised I havent read anybody notice the main problem with MP.

Its simple: hes not a press corner. Here in Wades D he plays man to man and his talents lie in playing offthe WR and reading the route/ play. Multiple vids will show this from KC to here.

Wade needs to adjust to MP's strengths because what is happening right now wont fly in the playoffs. Need to play Peters off with a cover 1 or 2 over. Kinda disappointed with the scheme we been running and its time to adjust after our first loss after its on tape.

Not so coincidentally, he was injured in the 3rd game vs San Diego, when he went from being out for the season with an Achilles, to sitting out with a calf strain. His numbers since?

I'm pretty sure that Wade Phillips has known from Day 1 exactly who he has in Marcus Peters and isn't trying to figure out how to fit him into this defense.

Peters needs to start the next game on the bench. Let Hatfield or Demarius Williams start. Sure as hell can't be any worse than Peters, and maybe give him a wake call.

You can bet Wilson is going to target whoever is covered by Peters.

We have Shields. He's a starting caliber CB.

The results and past say otherwise.

While that's logical and reasonable considering his poor play, it might also be the beginning of the turmoil in the locker room most talking heads predicted when he, Talib, and Suh were signed. Some players don't take demotions well. So does the Rams coaching staff do nothing? Don't have the answer. That's why they get paid the big bucks and I sit here posting opinions for free.

I think everyone pretty much on target he is a route reader/jumper with those smarts then add his skill set that's what made him good Wade is not playing to those skills but either way I believe and have said multiple times that Johnson has been ok mediocre at best and to me Joyner has been crap . In KC he played with Eric berry so that fit his skill set jumping routes reading plays etc cause he could and would make those plays occasionally getting burnt but Eric berry was there to pick up the slack making perhaps a huge play smaller. Regardless of how we are using Peters we do not have an Eric berry to rescue him right now, our safeties have both been ehhh.
That's what makes the plays peters gives up not just chunks they are huge chunks nobody picking him up. It's possible he is playing his own game and safeties playing wades or the safeties just plain not good this year???? I still think with talib on the sideline he would say something or suggest whatever to reinforce wades system and get things right so who knows.

Exactly, every time he gets beat it’s because he tried to press but EVERY RECEIVER beats his press and from there he’s trailing. He’s just not a press corner

Are we missing any of the guys who were "unloaded"? Rams D may be underperforming, but there's nobody that "got away" who we are pining for, that's for sure
Quinn has second best win rate in the league... . Behind. . Guess who!!

I heard some analyst say the very same thing, he said MP is a guy who needs to be able to see the qb and use his speed to break on the ball. So, yeah, why are we trying to make him into something he’s not? I don’t think he has a pick since the Oakland game, and that one wasn’t even his guy, there wasn’t anyone coming into his zone so he jumped the route he saw.

Peters is talented but he drove Chiefs fans crazy taking chances, so why did Snead think he could play man? Was Talib that big a part of the equation? Was Talib even covering the # 1 guy?
The Saints are looking for wr help so they must not be too confident in the guys behind Thomas, you would think that teams would try to take him away and make someone else have a career day. It didn’t look like they were trying to bracket him.

So, what does this mean for the future, I assumed Talib was a 1 year situation with Peters assuming that role next year, now why pay Peters big money if he doesn’t fit?

It's one game. I don't think so with Aaron Donald and Suh on the team. I've heard those dudes keep guys in line
