He looked OK in limited time last preseason. It sounds like he will get every opportunity to win the starting job, per McVay's recent quotes. That is fine with me. Competition can be a great thing and bring out the best in BOTH of our QBs. I just want the best guy under center.

From the tiny amount of time he's been out on the field in the NFL... what my eyes tell me is he's a little too tall. His size may help him see over the linemen, but it also takes away from his athleticism. Guys who are that tall tend to be lumbering and slower in just about everything they do.

I like what MANnion has to offer tbh. He was good vision, knows how to read a defense, and has great arm strength. Of course he has areas he has to work on but so does our young Goff. I feel if I wanted to win one game at the beginning of the season the better QB might be MANnion. Curious to see this offseason with the two.

I think from McVay talking about Goff and his tears he likes.

If you watch like the Dalls game with Spruuuce . Mannion will stay in the pocket , & use it to extend plays. He is willing to take a hit.Has good size & strength. Real poor mans Big Ben type.

My wifi went out so didn't see post. I agree with your post.
I also think he is willing to take a hit & has a knack to extend plays. I think he has improved his footwork each year.
From combine, year one & too.He is going to get more snaps in practice & beat out Goff last year.Which to me was saying something, because of The Rams investment in Goff.
I like the fact McVay got rid of Murray to give these QB's more reps. It is super important from his stand point to get more practice time.
Last season a lot of posters thought Goff needed more reps & was never given a chance. Snead even came out & said that will be his biggest import from year one to year 2 is being the #1 QB & getting those Reps.

Far cry from Fishers thoughts. I could never understand how he was the only NFL coach not to use all his practices.

I can definitely agree to that.

I liked what I saw of Mannion at the TC practices I attended last year. Mannion had a better grasp of Fishers offense that Goff and was better at reading the D. Mannion is a student of the game and is much better at getting rid of the ball than his 1st year. He's gotten better and I don't think he's reached his potential. He's already a competent #2 and just may get better.

IMO, he will always be a backup, and that's okay. I'm sure he would love to be a starting QB, but it isn't in the cards for him at this point.

There is no way a team should go into a season with a backup like Mannion. Little experience and less actual skills. If Goff doesn't pan out we're screwed.
Clearly his best year was 2013 because his O-Line was far superior to what he had in 2014 and his best WR Brandon Cooks was on that 2013 Oregon St roster.

Anyway I watched a few of his games from the 2013 season and I was impressed and thought he showed some potential to be a quality backup or a possible starter if he was surrounded by a strong supporting cast. I know that can be said about half the quarterbacks drafted...

He did show some talent in his 2013 film and if Mannion had declared for the draft after his Junior season and was drafted by the Rams in the 3rd round, I wouldn't have been caught off guard or thought of him as a bit of a reach like I did.
I watched a bunch of his 2013 tape...He had a couple of good receivers...one just left the Steelers, Wheaton or something like that...I also remember a guy named Paz. He did look like a NFL backup but he had a alarming amount of short throws, and terrible feet. Under pressure in 2014 he was awful. I'd be surprised if he left the Rams he'd get picked up. I wanted to see him for 2 seasons, if he couldn't get in with the QB play we've displayed, he must be terrible.

I think his ceiling is Elvis Grbac. He's not going to ever be a plus starting QB but with the right pieces around him he might be a low to middle of the pack type starter. His film was radically different once he lost Cooks and had some line issues but he's smart as hell and seems like a good team dude. I like the guy, but if he ends up installed as our starter things are probably going to be bad.

Did you ever see Warner before his 1999 season with The Rams ?

Ohh so you mean he looked like Goff with no running game receivers that only had 75 yards between them no offensive line and still trying to run a pro style offense. I don't get what you mean by short throws when he averaged almost 8yards per throw. Marcus Wheeton was known for his speed and big play ability Mannion got him the ball, Brandon cooks a smaller receiver like Austin Mannion got him the ball whether it was bubble screen post or dig routes Mannion got him the ball.

I believe I saw a lil of Kurt in those Arena league, NFL Europe games....I happened to catch him...not really paying attention, but just in passing. Hey, I liked "he hate me".... But in his first preseason game Kurt started, I thought, man...he's working with Bruce...maybe if the defense stays tough....
I have seen Mannion....people wanna say, Eli was this as a rookie, Troy was that as a Cowboy his first year...guys that play terrible as rookies have talent that you can see...but just bumble plays...I have yet to see pro skills in our QB's...for the last few years

No...he didn't. In 2013 Mannion looked like he could possibly be an NFL backup....in 2014, he looked like his last year of college would be his last year of football. Cook is NOTHING like Tavon...only similarity is speed. I don't know what he averaged...on throws, attempts, completions...I just know he always threw a bunch of short passes...and his feet, which I pay attention too for my own reasons, are slow as molasses...
No...he didn't look "like" Goff, he looked worse than Goff....which is pretty hard to do.

lol let's go back to the feet argument. I told you what he averaged per attempt 7.7 yards to be exact In 2013 that same year Goff was 6.8 in 2014 when Mannion team was garbage he averaged 7.0 yards per attempt and Goff in 2014 was at 7.8. One plays in a spread the other in a pro style offense throwing the ball less then the other and yet very similar yards per attempt

Not sure why we went to college stats...but we're here...At this point, neither look like viable NFL starters...and Mannion looked worse when he did get in...what's your point? Seriously...I'm curious.....

The reason I bring up feet is...the NFL game requires a certain finesse in the pocket of a QB..subtle moves, slides and pivots before delivering a timely pass. I don't see this ability in Mannion.

We just see things differently because Mannion spent all his time in the pocket dropping back to pass not taking shotgun snaps, so in regards to his footwork inside the pocket I think it's actually very good. He slides he step up he does it all inside the pocket now when he is forced outside the pocket that's a complete different story but his feet inside the pocket he gets it done..

We brought up college stats cause you said he only throws short I was pointing out that it was simply not true. Take another look at Mannion in the preseason and tell me he don't move good inside the pocket..

My take is your really down on The Rams QB's ?

At this point what would be there options at QB & moving forward ?

I remember Trent Green going down against the Chargers. That DB who is a HOF guy was always dirty. He freaking did the newer Tom Brady rule. He rolled his legs after a pass. Trent was 8 for 8 at the time.

Dick Vermille & Trent Green went on to have great offensive success .

I saw quite a few OSU games...and yeah, Mannion was in the shotgun..Quite a bit. I don't see all this sliding....or getting it done....In fact, one of my main things against Goff was and is, against good competition, he never won. Sorta like Mannion in 2014.

Pretty observant I see. Tell me, what about our QB play the last 3 years has you UP?

At this point what would be there options at QB & moving forward ?
If I told you there was a QB, walking around, that went to 3 straight NFC championship games (and a super bowl) and is under 30, what would YOU do if YOU were the GM?

It makes sense to see him look comfortable in a Fisher offense, he was a perfect fit.. Goff supposedly is a perfect fit for the McVay offense, so we'll see how Mannion looks in it as well.

I'd tell you that he sucks and there will be no damn muppets on my team.... And that you're fired.
