If M Brown is out, I expect Kelly AND Davis to both be activated. McVay needs insurance one of them can pass block.
McVay may need to re evaluate his OL & see who is causing all the leaks too.

Rams OL has been trending to spring many more leaks as the season moves on. Usually OL's that remain intact see a increase in strength not weaken. Goff is a sure bet to give you 2 to 3 turnovers when your defense can molest him. I would think that teams now know this & will turn up the heat on Goff. Goff has not improved in this area at all.

I was thinking that Malcolm Brown was having his best season he has shown me he is a outstanding back up & solid RB. His loss is a another blow to our offense. McVay might need to go heavy TE's to protect Goff from this point on. I do not see Justin Davis or John Kelly being able to replace Brown's pass blocking of Goff.

Austin Blythe had a outstanding game against the Lions & Rodger Saffold was on fire on the late run blocks but the pass blocking of the entire OL has been trending downward now for a month.:sadwalk:

I watched the Eagles DL last night & it gave me great cause to pause when we play them after the Bears. The Bears front is also a concern. You can bring up their weal secondary if you want but if Goff is feeling the pass rush heat ......we will see a complete return of the 2016 Goff real fast.

Might want to include some in that leaky OL that permitted the Lion D to molest Goff all afternoon. Goffis a good bet to give up a couple or more easy turnovers when he is molested on a regular basis.

Austin Blythe had a outstanding game against the Lions & Scaffold was panicking on run blocks but the pass blocking has been trending downward now for a month.
I don't disagree.
Thankfully Whitworth gets called for a small percentage of his holding.
The Rams will have to give help to the tackles.
If I'm Chicago I am attacking Havenstein with Mack and putting their stud DT (can't remember his name) right over Sullivan.
McVays approach will be interesting.
I expect more quick and intermediate passes to offset the pass rush a little bit.

Being able to rest Gurley and not change the O play calling at all is huge.
Brown has developed into a complete back in terms of being able to run, catch and block.
A long term loss is a dinger to the O for sure.

That's DT Harris 4some, and he's going to be a handful. I expect Kromer to have Higbee on the OL a lot

John Sullivan was being:eek: launched backwards into Goff's feet all afternoon on passing downs.

Considering that we have clinched the division title and a first round bye in the playoffs, MB can rest and recover for the next 5 weeks if needed. Get healthy for the playoffs!

Yeah he struggles with a good bull rush.
The dude from Chicago may require some extra attention.
One way to slow that rush may be to go up tempo at times.
But, the up tempo was clearly avoided by McVay at Detroit.
It may have been because of crowd noise on the road but I suspect it was a concerted effort to control TOP.
It was a workmanlike game and certainly one that would have been lost in the past.

Now the entire OL sucks? SMH

11-1
No one said that.
Talking about weaknesses is not being down on the team.
No team in the NFL is a complete team in the sense every unit dominates. The Rams are no exception.
The pass blocking has fallen off the last couple of weeks.
Pressure more than anything.
Havenstein can struggle with speed rushers that can "bend" around the corner as Mack can and Sullivan can struggle with a bull rush.

I would expect this as well.
Motion to create mismatches for WR as well to help generate quick throws.
This is why I would suspect the back up RB would be selected based on who has a better grasp of blitz pick up.

On Rookie RB John Kelly some of his listed postives going into the draft ......
" Competitive pass blocker who will sort and square opponents"
" Capable pass catcher who has the potential to play all three downs if needed."
"...with the ability to handle full-time duties if called upon."

I do know that Tyler Higbee's blocking has improved greatly this season. Not real sure on his ability to block away from the LOS. McVay's 3rd TE Johnny Mundt is much more pass catcher less pass blocker.

Gurley is an outstanding protector of Goff in most pass rush conditions. Another element to be on the outlook for is utilization of Davis & Kelly more in the run game as runners to give Gurley some rest & use Gurley more often in pass protection. It will be interesting to see what McVay decided on. McVay clearly does not use an extra OL'er at all.

IMO keeping Goff from being molested, hurried, hit & injured in priority #1.

Broken collarbone takes two weeks to knit together and another four weeks to be almost pain free. At least that's my experience from a skiing accident.

So with a first round bye there's a chance he'll be available for the whole post season if we're lucky.

Yup. I've had 2 of them.
Neither required surgery, though.

Kelly and Davis on pass pro? Yeah, not too excited, especially against a good defense like the Bears -- and you need to be able to pass with them in the game so the offense doesn't become predictable.

So, just saying, the Patriots were/are running Cordarrelle Patterson out of the I-formation. If there's anyone who can make a modern passing game work out of the I, it's McV. The FB could help with the pass pro. Of course there's not a FB on the roster, so maybe one of the TEs could be used there.

The only player on the roster who I remember ever having played FB is . . .

Suh.

Could be fun.

Could see Higbee or Everett in the backfield on passing downs as well occasionally.
