PFT saying Rams getting a 5th and 3 6ths this season in comp picks.

Rams projected to receive 4 compensatory picks in 2024 NFL draft

Story by Cameron DaSilva • 3h

The Los Angeles Rams suffered significant losses in free agency last offseason, watching several starters leave last March. That list of players included Greg Gaines, David Edwards, A’Shawn Robinson, Matt Gay, Taylor Rapp, Nick Scott and David Long Jr. Baker Mayfield also left after a brief stint in Los Angeles, signing a one-year deal with the Bucs where he earned the starting job.

The Rams knew that if they let these players leave in free agency, they’d recoup
draft picks for many of them in the form of compensatory picks. The NFL awards
extra draft picks to compensate teams for their free-agent losses, and the Rams are projected to earn four extra picks in 2024 for their departures last offseason.

According to Over The Cap, the Rams are expected to receive a fifth-round pick for Mayfield, as well as sixth-rounders for Gay, Robinson and Scott. That puts the Rams at the maximum of four compensatory picks, which is how many they received in each of the last two years, as well.

The compensatory pick formula is complex, but it’s mostly determined by a player’s contract value, as well as any postseason accolades and the number of snaps played. Over The Cap notes that because Mayfield earned incentives for his snaps played, touchdown passes, passing yards and the Bucs’ playoff win, it increased his APY into the range of a fifth-round pick instead of a sixth-rounder.

The NFL will announce the finalized compensatory picks closer to the draft, but as of now, it looks like the Rams will receive four extra picks in addition to the selections they already have – including a first-rounder at No. 19 overall.

WR is not an immediate need if Kupp stays healthy. This is a very good WR class, though, so I’d consider a “luxury pick” if the right guy falls.

OT comes down to whether we think the No. 19 pick could yield a clear upgrade over Jackson.

Not sure what your point is on CB. I said its a priority for Rounds 1-3.

The rest of your comments likewise don't seem to be addressing anything I said.

Been a draftnik for awhile. To think WR’s are good early round picks are questionable especially when you have a solid group of WR.Austin Trammel did well as a PR guy.
—Luxary ? At this point that’s over kill.Your right about if the right guy is there, but that goes without saying for any position.

Who’s your starting RG ?
Michael Ojemudia should be a name we haven’t seen. Not sure who you have as The Rams starting CB’s .Fuller might be gone as well.

My RG is hopefully Kevin Dotson. If he leaves, it becomes a greater priority, of course.

Not really interested in your draftnik resume, but if you do follow the draft, you’d know that sometimes the best move is to take the best prospect, regardless of position.

I think drafting a Tackle, and how early, comes down to whether or not the Rams keep Noteboom. The Rams need 3 Tackles capable of starting. All 3 missed games in 2023. Havs isn’t getting any younger and both Jackson and Noteboom have a history.

Easy: Jackson Powers-Johnson, Sedrick Van Pran Granger, or Graham Barton. Those are the bluechip centers.

Or we could move Avila to center if Shelton leaves? No, it's not blue font; Avila's been worked out as a potential center before.

How about Zach Frazier (wvu)? Possible 3rd rounder.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr...early day 2 guy would be interesting.
How about Edgerrin Cooper 1st rd. & Cooper Bebee in the 2nd rd ? Jordan Strachan 3rd rd.

Signing L’Jarius Snead CB from KC. Resigning Alaric Jackson.Resign Spoon

That is a nice fix all around.

IMO - The Rams are set a OT. Warren McCleddon is a nice backup moving forward in 2024.

Plus Resigning Demarcus Robinson is another priority a long with Tyler Johnson.Royce Freeman as well.

Plus of course Carson Wentz. Could The Rams draft a QB ? I liked the kid from Purdue last season & couldn’t believe he was still there. Then The Rams drafted Stenson Bennett who I
bought into, but still always go by my choices. Aiden O’ Connel.

Tankathon picks graphic. Not a bad haul of selection spots. And interesting mock by them for the first three as well.

So if The Rams sign Dotson, maybe the should draft the Best Guard ?? I’m not saying that at all though. There are people who say put Avila at Center? The Rams don’t value that position that much though.

Les Snead also has a track record on how he works the draft.I don’t always agree.Inthink when he trades up he hasn’t done very well.

Weather you care about my Draftnk’ or not I still say Dickerson is going to the Pro Bowl & was worth trading up for.Having a 5th year for him as well as the season before with Taylor. The Rams Akers,Jefferson, & Lewis so how bad Yhe Rams can draft. Logan Bruss as well.
—The Rams have things dialed in more with all there personnel with full input.

yeah - maybe if The Rams have Wentz & Stafford they could still draft a QB with there first pick ?

So they will have three 5th rounders...their own, Steelers and the comp pick.

They also get four 6th rdrs. The 3 comp picks. Then they have Denvers pick from the Kenny Young trade, but Buffalo has the Rams 6th.

They have no 7th, traded to Denver in the Kenny Young trade.

So hopefully they can package a few pick to move up into the 4th...whether multiple picks or a player and a pick. They have one of those 100 pick gaps again like they faced last yr when they traded back into the 4th to take Bennett.

Also, they could obviously trade down into the 4th, but I would prefer quality over quantity this yr since they had a 14 pick class last yr and they could still get an unheard of 10 guys out of that draft that could be a factor.
Have to edit this...just discovered we apparently don't have Denver's pick in the 6th. NFL.com shows that was used to trade up for Zach Evans last yr.

McClendon seems like a back up at best. At 6-4 306, seems a bit small for an OT or OG, with limited growth potential to get bigger.

Seems he was picked, like Bennett was, to be a back up only. Maybe they looked at his experience and considered him to be a guy that can step in soon, but maybe never good enough to be a full time high level starter.

So I am a little disappointed in that pick. Why draft an OT who is that small.
