If we rest our guys and end up playing the NFC Championship in New Orleans on artificial turf as opposed to grass with their loud crowd...I don't like it. It sounds good now but when that day comes I think we'd regret it. We've been relatively healthy all year. If you play afraid to get hurt, you'll get hurt. Go out and piss pound the Niners and take that momentum into the playoffs. How many of those teams over the years that have had first round byes come out flat and end up getting beat?

Kind of sucks for the fans that are or were going to be paying big bucks to see a division showdown when it could turn into Week 2 of the preseason. When word gets out that we are tanking, watch the tickets go up for sale online. We'll be lucky to have a half full stadium (well, it might be red and gold). Hardly the welcome home I envisioned for our division champs. Wish McVay would have kept that closer to his vest if that's his intention.

The Eagles are a weak 1 seed with Foles - really good chance they lose to Carolina or the Saints. If they do - that means the winner of the 2,3 game would host the NFC title game. That is worth playing for.

Not that I really disagree, but we are 3-3 at home and 8-1 (including our (home) London game) on the road. Not sure if there is much of a home field advantage for us so far. Perhaps the playoffs change that for us. I don’t want to see us play in Philly in January, that’s for sure.

What nobody seems to realize is if the NFC Championship game matches the 3rd seat against the 4th seat with both the Rams and Saints currently sitting at 11 & 4 this last game could mean a lot in that scenario. Rams need to play to win, you start worrying about getting guys hurt is when you get guys hurt.

Key word there is "IF." One could argue that the Rams might have a better shot at even getting to the Championship via the #4 seed.

Thanks, missed that somehow. That pretty much ensures a resting of starters if I'm making the call. I'd have them all start the game and get a little work in, then quickly change them out and leave them out regardless of how the game goes.

My goal would be to have Mannion play 3/4 of the game. Goff/Gurley/Big Whit come out first. Then some of the other guys like the CBs, Donald, etc.

Yeah, Merlin and I and a few others have been advocating for McVay to put a premium on resting some starters for the Niners game.

In all honesty, I would prefer that the Rams were the #4 seed at this point.... would like to see someone else get a crack at Minnesota in the divisional round.

This makes me feel really good about the intelligence of the Rams overall. It's a great move.

If they lose and drop to 4th seed (which is very possible since the Saints/Panthers are still duking it out for division), it increases their chances of going to Philadelphia and punking a gimped team in round two.

If not, and either way, their starter risk is lowered and guys are more fresh for a long haul run through the playoffs.

Look at it this way, beating the Vikes in Minnesota will be harder than winning at New Orleans.... so possibly avoiding that one big hurdle makes this a good move.

I can see why McVay would rest the starters and prepping the second unit for major playoff battles ahead. Let the 49ers win and let them lose their high draft positions in 2018. After all, let the Niners have their false sense of bravado when they think they can steam roll our backups. The Rams backups will give the Niners a run for their money. The end result is the Rams starters will be fresher and stronger, which will take them to the Super Bowl and win it all.

Also, if the Rams lose, it also screws with the 49's draft location. The Whiners keep winning and rising and don't have a 2nd round pick right? But, I'm going to the game now, knowing it's more like a preseason game. Oh well, I'm still going to enjoy the game. If our scrubs win, that will be sweet.
