As enormous as the advantages of rest were, this game had value outside of all that. It allowed McVay to get a good look at his depth all over the team. That will benefit the team not only through the playoffs but also into the offseason as they rack and stack their roster areas that require the most improvement.

Looking at Mannion alone... He had a hard time getting through reads, seemed to process some decisions slowly, and suffered inaccuracy throughout the game. He wasn't helped by the drops, but after watching this one you can go down the list of subpar performances and have a good idea what McVay will be thinking.

I thought Mannion had a pretty strong game. I don’t look at stats, just as I didn’t last year when Goff has no help around him. With the pressure mannion faced and the drops, and lack of run game, he did well.

As for resting starters, im a huge fan of the move. You don’t work this hard to make the playoffs to lose a key player in a meaningless game. Forest for trees.

Respectfully, I thought Mannion looked off all night. His throws were rarely placed properly and on time. His entire game is slow. I'd like to see us go another direction this off-season.

I believe the Rams' season ticket prices were bottom 5 in the NFL (on a per game basis).
what does one have to do with the other you bought the tickets for the product in whole. There were a lot of contested playoff spots today expecting your team to not be a part of that is a lame excuse.

That seems like a weak excuses. The Rams announced early in the week that they were resting starters. If you bought tickets to the game not expecting that, it's on you. If you're a season ticket holder, you probably got your season tickets at a discount because the Rams were a 4-12 team last year, so you reaped the rewards of the Rams vastly exceeding expectations all year long. I think you can deal with us resting our starters for one week to prepare for the playoffs. JMO.
Myopic view.
No we did not get a discount. We bought our tickets long ago leaving your justification Non Applicable

What does one have to do with the other? My point is that you more than got your money's worth, so I think it's silly to complain about McVay doing what's best for the team. You paid for season tickets for a 4-12 team. You got an 11-5 team. I think you can suffer through one game of us resting our starters to try and make a playoff run. I think it's selfish to demand that McVay sacrifice what's best for the team to make a small percentage of the fan-base happy.

So you weren't happy and entertained with the regular season we had? You regret purchasing tickets (I'm assuming you did)?

You too, my friend, you too.

Hardly watched the game. Paid more attention to the Chargers, Bills, Tennessee and Seattle as all those games had playoff implications. I betcha there were almost 90% Raider fans in that crowd. But I don't care as as long as the Rams are in the playoffs. It will be tough to beat the Falcons as they're are trying to erase the memory of last year's stunning Super Bowl loss. But we'll be ready for them, won't we Ram fans. Go Rams!

Don't be silly, Your words not mine. I sold those tickets to someone who brought there child to their first live game. It was a long drive and a commitment. I feel bad that the Rams didn't put a competitive product on the field. The fans at the stadium were the only losers. If it were me I have seen more than my fair share. Irrespective of cost I pay for a product as advertised and the commercials and add campaigns all have TG30, 99, and JG.
Nobody buys a Mercedes to rest it in the rain because there are more accidents

I'm sorry that happened. I don't know when you sold the tickets, but we all knew what was coming well ahead of the game. This wasn't a surprise.

Some people do exactly that with their supercars. They leave them in the garage when the conditions aren't right. At the end of the day, I trust Sean McVay. He has a better understanding of this team than any of us do. If he says that rest is best for the team, I am behind him 110%. He's earned that. Winning in the playoffs is a lot more important than winning in Week 17.

This guy has to be a troll. Nobody gets mad for the coach sitting the starters in a meaningless game.

The OP is probably a 49ers fan trying to rile us up.

No, he isn't. Blackbart has been a good poster here for several years.

I am on the play and don't lose momentum side, but I am not too concerned either way. We won't know the result until next Saturday. If they look great, refreshed and sharp, then kudos to McVay. If they look out of sync, then maybe rethink the strategy for next year.

It was a good opportunity with to get a look at depth and backups.

Yeah, Agreed Elm. It is a more polarizing subject than I thought it may be. I believe those that attend games no the sacrifices to get there and what it takes. To be honest I attended only a few games when they were in STL and lost touch a bit with what it takes. Yes safety first but entertainment in the end is the only attraction that creates the interest hence the revenue.
@blackbart is a poster I enjoy. Lets get on to the playoffs and hope that we don't have to worry about being entertained

He actually reminded me a lot of Goff last year tbh. Had some nice throws here and there but hesitation and late on many throws. I think he’ll come along but since this is his last year might be more cost efficient to draft a backup.

To some degree, that's true. However, Goff has a much quicker release and feet. The big problem is that he's had all year in McVay's system, and he's still not looking much improved. I just don't see him growing that much. I think he's a career backup and not a great one.

He’s had all year getting limited snaps with the backups. Last year Mannion was clearly farther ahead than Goff. He is now clearly way farther behind. A huge part of that is getting the playing time opportunity and rolling with the 1’s.

I don't agree at all with that sentiment.

.

It was a glorious day. Most players got the rest they needed and the rams still got the #3 seed. Couldn't be happier.

Yes it is great but they have nothing to do with each other. If you're ok with giving them a game on your home turf I don't understand why you like the game at all. You play to win the games.

You could say that. Or you could say you play in this league to win the Super Bowl. I am in the opinion it is the latter. Whether McVay was right or wrong in resting players is still to be seen. He knows his team better than any of us. I think in this case he deserves the benefit of the doubt when you weigh what he has accomplished so far in his first year. Hang in there, we are all in this together.
