I watched the game. Thought they were could be competitive early on. A little better throws and catches and they might have been. The coaches got some valuable film on the backups that was against first stringers unlike preseason games.

I am not a ticket holder. I do think McVay did the right thing for the Rams team. Even if it didn't turn out to be a meaningless game he did the right thing. The key players will be rested and ready to go. I think they will come out sharp and ready to beat the Falcons.

The season ticket holders get to see a Rams playoff game next week. That should be very exciting.

I'd say McVay got exactly what he wanted . I can't believe he did it to get the 4th seed and eventually you have to beat the Vikings so the sooner the better .

On one side: those who are in favor of resting players and avoiding injuries heading into the playoffs.
On the other side: those who hate losing and fear loss of momentum heading into the playoffs.

Both sides have valid points. Let's not make it personal. (y)

Hi, first post in a long time, but I follow this forum daily.

I have to trust coach McVay, he's been awesome so far, but not playing to beat the 49ers really left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't think you can turn winning and losing on and off with a switch. You need to play to win and hopefully keep that momentum going.

I understand there is a small chance a key player could have been injured, but to me killing that winning momentum was the bigger gamble. I just pray they can turn that switch back on and beat the Falcons next week.

What a great post. Only thing missing is the mike drop.
It’s a result business. Rams beat Atlanta next week and McVay did the right thing.

And I think Sean McVay has a much better feel for the team's need for rest than you do.

Yet, many of the top teams rest their starters every year. What do you know that Mike Tomlin, Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Sean McVay, etc. do not?
The Vikings and Patriots did not rest their starters who were healthy enough for action.

As enormous as the advantages of rest were, this game had value outside of all that. It allowed McVay to get a good look at his depth all over the team. That will benefit the team not only through the playoffs but also into the offseason as they rack and stack their roster areas that require the most improvement.

Looking at Mannion alone... He had a hard time getting through reads, seemed to process some decisions slowly, and suffered inaccuracy throughout the game. He wasn't helped by the drops, but after watching this one you can go down the list of subpar performances and have a good idea what McVay will be thinking.
There was some value but its not like there were one or two guys in there playing with the rest of the ones. This was mostly second string against the niners ones. Put Manion in there with the rest of the Rams ones and it would have been a different performance.

This did more for the niners organization and their fan base than anything the Rams got out of it.

This is just like the NBA not playing their ones down the stretch. They are still getting thousands of dollars to perform for the audience who is paying they way to play a game for a living.

This guy has to be a troll. Nobody gets mad for the coach sitting the starters in a meaningless game.

The OP is probably a 49ers fan trying to rile us up.
Check the stats, sonny

And the Steelers, Chiefs, Eagles, and Rams did.

Patriots had something to play for (securing home field). So did 3 of the 4 NFCS teams.

See below:
I got more than my money's worth? How do you arrive at that conclusion? By what standard do you base that opinion? Or have you just declared yourself the Grand Poobah of ticket value here?

I'll interject a little reality here as it relates to the "value" of my tickets. Up until the Philly game, my tickets were rarely "worth" the paper they were printed upon. I could not make the trip to LA for the Washington game. Those tickets were unsellable at 50% of face value so I gave them to my nephew. There was value in that but not in a monetary way which is the scope here.

To suggest that I received more than my money's worth for my season tickets is an opinion with which I cannot agree. The math doesn't add up at all.

As for the coach speak, I'd have more respect if he had just told the truth outright and say the outcome wasn't a concern. He couldn't have cared less about winning the game. He proved that with a chance to score a TD at the end of the first half. One play. He didn't have that play in the game plan apparently. He went for a meaningless field goal. That's not making an honest effort to win. That's mailing it in. Period. I don't need your approval to not like that.

Agreed on Mannion. I have never been a big fan of Sean. The guy basically has one pitch in his arsenal - fast ball. Sure he has a big arm, but I have yet to see him throw receivers open. The ability to anticipate where his receivers should/will be consistently eludes him. Instead he throws lasers AT them.

On the other hand, throwing receivers open is one of Goff's innate talents. He can deliver a laser when required, or float a pass with perfect touch to the corner of the endzone where only his receiver can get it. Next year, Jared will be able to anticipate his receivers' tendencies even better with a year of experience under his belt. Therefore, I am expecting to see further significant improvement from him.

As regards resting players - I'm 50/50. That said, McVay is the guy whose finger is truly on the pulse of this team; I am hoping he will be proven correct when we host the Falcons ..

Welcome. Post more!

You got many agreeing with your post. At first I wanted the Rams to keep the starters playing and destroy the Whiners. Then others posted about the real possibility of injury. I had a change of heart. The whiners where bringing it yesterday and with the 1s in there it the intensity would have been much greater. You just never know when an injury can happen and if it is to Goff, Gurley, Whitford, Brookers and or Donald the Rams would be big trouble. The Robert Woods injury with 2 minutes remaining (Vikings Game) was very unlikely yet, it happened. Even though Kupp stepped up the Rams missed Woods. Rams need all hands on deck so to speak. The Vikings and Patsies get a week off so they could not afford to sit starters for two weeks and become rusty. The Rams have played a monster schedule recently and looked a little tired against the Titans. Donald didn't have his usual game as well as Brockers. Whitford has been getting beaten more of late so he should benefit from the rest. I see this Rams team keeping focus and benefiting from the time off. They did well after the break.

The Vikings and Patriots did not rest their starters who were healthy enough for action.

See above.

Look, I'd rather pay for this one game vs. half the games Rams played last year after they were eliminated half way through the season. I'm really tired of all the whining about having tickets to this last game. Would you rather had starters playing for another losing record? Geez!

Plus, if the Eagles lose, the NFC Championship game will be in LA if we win out to play it. Just gotta beat two pretty good dome teams to get there.

If you’re a real Rams fan, and you are actually being a whiny female canine over this past weekend...
