Have always loved this song , it's one of those songs when in comes on the car radio , you just can't help but crank it up

saw donnie iris and the cruisers in columbus ohio at a now infamous venue, great, great show. after the show i was able to meet and talk with donnie and mark avsec (keyboards, background vocal genius). mark actually explained in full detail how he went about doing the background vocals (massive layering program with a reverb/echo chamber effects board----which is what i believe really makes their songs click. marty lee (guitar) understands what power chords are (Love is Like a Rock) and the two combined made their music fun to listen to in the 80's (IowaRam understands what I mean).

the only sad part of the whole evening was when my ex wife went to take a pic of donnie and I --i was going to send to my friend in orland fla since all 3 of us went to Slippery Rock Univ. the camera decided not to work and later the realization was that she killed the battery recording a torching keyboard solo by mark avsec, thus rendering the phone camera useless and my picture chance gone.

I still was able to give Donnie a shirt that had Slippery Rock State College on it (became University the year I started) and he actually liked the one I gave him since he graduated from the state college version. in return the band signed the hat i was wearing (naturally a john force hat) and a t shirt from the show. the venue only held about 300 or 400 people (still very loud) and after the show, i spent at least a good 40 minutes talking with band members which was worth its weight in gold to me. oh to have that picture though. luckily, thats a memory that will stay with me til my last day on the floating orb known as earth. kinda like this past weekend. keeps a healthy balance in life having those memories.
www.donnieiris.com will give those that want it, more band info.

Seven Steps To The Green Door released their new album earlier this week. This song reminds me a little of Gentile Giant, King Crimson, Sparks, and Ambrosia. Perhaps one of the musicians on ROD can enlighten me, as to what time signatures I'm hearing on this song?

That is good. Yes was the first one that came to me with a styx/kansas flavor. I really like the part where it goes to scratchy radio fades then that ripping tenor sax riff. It is interesting. Orchestral prog. Movements and etc. Pass on the time sig question ha ha.

2015 has been a very good year for progressive rock. Over the next month I will post several of my 2015 finds.

Advent is a USA prog rock band and they record an album every 7 years or so. In other words they got real jobs. Advent's new album Silent Sentinel is a labor of love.

Personally, I categorize Advent's Silent Sentinel as pastoral symphonic progressive. Pastoral in the sense of Genesis circa "Trick of the Tail" and "Wind and the Wuthering". I'm Facebook friends with Advent's guitarist and the keyboardist. They're good people.

The Alarm has an English channel Springsteen vibe. Glory days, high school crushes, bars, fast cars, and clawing out a future with your two bare hands.

Every time I hear The Spirit of '76 I got to stand up and salute all the old folks who have lived over half a century, because survivors deserve it. If your grandma, mom, or dad are still alive, then hug them for giving you genes to live a long healthy happy life! Hug your parents.

In 1976 the Los Angeles Rams battered their way thru a brutal schedule to a 10-3-1 first place finish. Playoffs? After surviving two blocked punts the Rams frustrated Roger Staubach and choked the Cowboys unconcoious 14-12 in Dallas... After three "kneel downs" and Cowboy time outs, the Rams faced a 4th and 14 with seconds left in the game. Wary of another blocked punt, Coach Knox ordered Ram punter Randy Jackson to step out of the back of the end zone for an intentional safety.

Last Sunday Marquez called a fair catch on an onside kick. And the Rams kicked the shit out of the Seahags. Sometimes history rhymes.

At a show I was at in SF during the early 80's it was Big Country, The Alarm, and The Pretenders in that order. Good memories. Thanks for reminding me of that. (y)
