Yup, the draft was not what I expected at all. I thought they would grab a receiver or tackle with that first pick. Or even a CB to give quality depth. The second pick was a head scratcher too. We have a lot of tight ends. The 3rd pick I was fine with. We need depth on the line too. They moved up to grab WR C.J. Daniels. I guess there's something about him they like. So who knows?

Its clear this draft was not to fill immediate needs. It was all about the future. Stafford has only so much time left. Waiting till next year when the QB class is supposed to be better probably isn't a good strategy. They're likely to be picking at the end of the first round. Good quarterbacks will be gone by then.

Parkinson and Allen are in the final year of their contracts. Higbee's time is limited too. He thought about retiring before re-signing. 13 personnel worked well for them. I think they want to have enough tight ends to keep that an option going forward.

Peter Schrager had a good point. If the Rams traded their 13th pick for McDuffie and used the 29th pick for Simpson, would we be complaining about the pick then? Their evaluation on Simpson tells them he has the tools be a franchise quarterback. Others don't agree. We won't know for a few more years but I think McVay deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The Good - The Rams didn't pick Lemon. I know wrs are different but this guy looks like he's from another planet. I hated him as soon a i saw him in sunglasses inside the building. Then I saw his interview after getting drafted and I was like what the fuck? Nah, this guy isn't a Rams kind of player.

Yeah, that dude seems out there. A little weird. Can't say he's a bad attitude guy. Just someone that teammates might not want to get close to. I initially wanted him. But that post draft interview cemented what I thought about him. Strange.

Yeah there would be complaining about using 13 on McDuffie there were complaints we spent too much as it is. It's just the way some are around here.

Like any other draft the more I learn about these Rams picks the more I like them and I already knew about the SEC boys and the WR from Miami.

The Good:

- We have our future QB on the roster who gets to learn from one of the all time greatest QB's & Coaches for the next 2 years. That is how you build a franchise QB. He also was the best QB in college football year for over half the year.
- We drafted a swing tackle who played very well against SEC competition last season, which is a excellent sign. We are also pretty good at drafting OL at this point in the draft.
- Keenan was a great pick in the 7th. We needed a big snot bubbler to come in when Ford sits or get dinged up. We suffered in rush defense with Ford out. Keenan is a great choice for that.
- I thought Daniels popped in the games I watched of him and he's already a grade A shit talker.

The Mid (nothing ugly/bad IMO):

- Really would have liked to grab a good returner. I still wake up at night seeing Smith drop that kick. That said, he was pretty good at it the rest of the year. Not a big time threat returner, but average.
- Would have loved any kind of trade down in the 1st to grab Simpson, however, we do not have the knowledge that the Rams do and they potentially had a feeling Cards/Steelers/whomever might have jumped up and draft him ahead of us. As I assume that is true, good on them for standing and getting their guy.
- At the time, I didn't love Klare pick since we are so loaded at TE. However, rather then taking a WR high, the Rams pivoted and strengthened their 13 personnel. What happened when Adams was hurt, we just pivoted to 13 more. I think that is their plan if either of our guys go down and they clearly viewed Klare as a better option then the WR's that were on the board. Personally, I had Branch and Hurst higher, but they know more then I.

The Ugly

- A lot of disrespect for Simpson. To each their own but the man was, without a doubt, the top QB in all of College last year for over half the year before he got dinged up. He played in the SEC. He played on a non-typical Bama team. He gutted out the injuries (remind you of someone?).
- The whiners. They suck at the draft and life.

I keep checking for UDFA and I've noticed that so far the Rams haven't signed one WR.

I've seen in 2 different places that the Rams signed LSU WR Nick Andersen.

But these early UDFA "trackers" tend to be a little sketchy IMO

That's where I think a lot of people get it wrong. We all have faith in McVay. What I don't believe in is the actual player in regards to Simpson. Coaching can only do so much to enhance any player, I just don't see it with the kid. He obviously is being groomed/developed/trained (whatever you want to call it). History is not on his side for QBs with his limited college experience being successful. We could have also used that pick to address a pass rusher (probably losing Young next year) or WR (Adams is old)....but we didn't. I get the reasoning behind the pick but simply don't agree with it. No one knows for sure how it'll eventually play out since all draft classes take time to come to fruition. Simpson will either pay off or not. Guess I just prefer help sooner than 2028 lol. I hope no one gets mad that I just simply have a different view of that 1st pick since it seems doing so for some odd reason equates to McVay/Snead sucks which they most definitely do not.

My question is why are so many people so certain that a 38 year old QB who has had several injuries and is already showing signs of not wanting to get hit than he has in the past is going to last for multiple years? He might. But, he might not even last through this season.

I'm in the "McDuffie was part of the draft" camp.... so this draft is already a big success, imo.

Simpson... lots of valid questions.. lots of valid praise. Strategically... *if* he does turn out to be something like Brock Purdy with a stronger arm, as has been written by some scouts, it will be a huge W for the franchise. Being in QB purgatory is just the worst.. wasted seasons, etc.

Klare is intriguing and I love the skill sets they'll have in the TE room. Unlike some on here, I do think they'll keep Parkinson... but Higs and Allen will be moving on after 26, I think.

Trost *seems* like a guy who will be ready to fill-in at guard or tackle, if needed.. although I'd prefer guard.

Daniels seems like a solid pick! Kinda profiles like Puka without the YAC ability.. and that's not bad for where he was picked. The NFL has been moving more and more to more zone looks... so having smart guys who can run good routes and catch the ball is good. It'd be nice to have more guys who can line up and beat one-on-one coverage.. but I'll take reliable.

Keenan? Fire plug with short arms. We'll see.

It's a valid concern, but if the kid could look as good as this kid looked for a stretch this season and with what he was working with after all that time of the bench, I'm sold.
