Nope it was past.
They showed it again on slo mo, then stopped it.
the second kick was a yard past the LOS.

It's the same rule as the QB crossing the line.

Just one part of his body had to be behind the LOS. It clearly was.

Hey, for those who want the rule changed, that's understandable. But don't blame the refs on this particular play, because they adhered to the current rules to the letter.

That was me, I don't think you should be able to punt the ball again, but who would every think a punter would get the chance and to give Dickson credit, he booted it well. Could not stand it, but all the Rams were downfield after the block by Jones.

Line of scrimmage 21 -- Punt blocked -- punter one hands the live ball on the run -- realizes he can't pick up the first -- stops right at the line of scrimmage -- and kicks the shit out of it.

~I'm chalking this play up as one of the best special teams plays I've ever witnessed.

I wasn't even mad. Tis why I watch sports -- for the fandom and the occasional "WOW" moments like these where a player exhibits greatness -- turning the brink of catastrophe into greatness.

And I suspect most of us would all be ecstatic if it was Hekker who made this sick play.

Now-- with all the diplomatic sportsmanship aside.....FUCK!!! that play sucked balls.
We went from icing the game to having to endure a nail biter because of that Seachicken, two-time-kickin', bitch.

Go Rams!

We know McVay totally sucks at challenges, but this time he should've thrown a flag. I bet Baldy or someone else will examine this to be past the LOS. I agree they should eliminate double punts in the future.

I don't see indisputable evidence to overturn this.

LOS clearly at 21 yard line.
Dixon one hands the blocked live ball and does hard stop at 20 to kick it.
Plant foot on 21, entire body behind the 21.

And I don't understand why anyone would want an exiting play like this taken out of the game. I would love to see Hekker pull this off if he's ever blocked.

How about big ups for Jamir Jones! Great block!

Regardless we won and it didn't cost us luckily. But I agree we need to give props to Jamir who was claimed by Rams a week ago from the Steelers who were trying to sneak him onto their practice squad.

They missed the call. Because the refs weren't paying attention to the spot of the 2nd kick, they gave it to Seattle that the kick was behind the LOS and unlike a pass, you CAN double kick it... but the ball cannot go past the LOS. Because of the block, the ball didn't... until the kicker carried it past the LOS to do the double kick.

So yeah, they messed up, but man... whoda thunk THAT would have happened???

If it had been one of those crazy windy days like in Soldier Field and the punter kicked it and after going forward X yards, the wind blew it back, then the kicker would NOT be allowed to kick it again.

At least, that's the explanation we got.

Expect THAT to be a rule change come next year...
I have NEVER seen that before.
I had no idea what the rule is.

It was a fun play to watch, even though it didn't go our way.

What if we blocked the 2nd punt too? Do they get a 3rd crack at it?

Fuckery.
To be honest the Rams should have been all over the punter when he picked up the blocked punt despite it taking a rather fortunate placement when blocked.

I'm sorry but that play and the "rules" used to defend it are just laughably stupid.
New "trick play" idea!
First we reintroduce the Hekker fake.
Then in a scenario where the opposing STs are going to drop back in coverage to prevent Johnny's throw, he has time to *barely* punt the ball (a bunt?), recover it and line drive that fucker for 70 yards...
NFL RULES JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER! YEAH!!!

I suspect most of us would all be ecstatic if it was Hekker who made this sick play.

I would applaud Hekkers effort if the roles were reversed, but I can say with total honesty that I wouldn't be ecstatic about it. I might be glad for the bad call to go our way, but I would also be embarrassed and think it's an absurd call by the refs.

I don't understand why anyone would want an exiting play like this taken out of the game

I don't need a rule like this to make football more exciting. I need a game whose rules make sense and are enforced with consistency.
If a punt or kick gets blocked, it should be no different than a live ball on a fumble. You can pick it up and run, or you can lateral it behind you. Anything else is flat out fucking stupid imo.

Sure doesnt seem right a team who executed punt team so poorly it got blocked to be bailed out by a rule in favor of a fluke. They don’t let you pass it twice, that fuckery is illegal as it should be. You failed at executing that play and due to fuckery u get another shot at completing the pass? I don’t think.

why don’t we just let them pick up incomplete passes and try again?

cheatin fuckery follows Carroll like pig pen and the fuckin dust cloud

Yeah, he booted it very well. Pretty easy when you are beyond the LOS with a full running start. He got to punt 15 yards beyond his first attempt. If that one was blocked, they should have just given him a free kick, with all our players off the field, and all 53 shit hawks on the field to down it.

Just looking at these clips show more than gunners are beyond LOS

I hate the rule, but I don't blame the refs. Called it how it is written.

*whispers very quietly* Also... it was kind of awesome

Even that dumb ass head of officials Dean, whatever his name is, at first said it was an illegal kick. Then after he saw what the game officials ruled he changed his opinion on it. "What a tool" he is a total turd.

Not sure the refs fucked up.

Rulebook apparently allows a second punt from behind the LOS if the first was blocked.

LOS was the 21. Second punt occurred almost exactly on the 21 yard line. Was extremely close as to whether 2nd punt was behind LOS or not.
But it was the BALL that was not allowed to go past the line of scrimmage, not the player. It’s not the same rule as for passing. When passing, any part of the quarterback’s body can be behind the line of scrimmage and have the throw be legal.

However, for the second punt, it is the ball that must be behind the line of scrimmage.

Bottom line

you shouldn’t be rewarded with pinning your opponents deep because you pooch screwed punt team and got the kick blocked

again I say…..

incomplete pass? Pick that fucker up and pitch that sumbitch again
