Let’s not forget the throw to Higbee in the corner of the endzone only a few guys could make! Aside from the pick and the poor throw to Woods, Goff was dynamite.. not gonna lie tho, the one that kinda hurt too was the play where Goff scrambled towards center of the field inside the 30 or so and created an opening for Woods on the sideline... would’ve been an easy TD.

Our secondary needs to step up!

I agree with all of the above. Jared had a chance to win the game there, or at least put enormous pressure on the Stains with time ticking down, and went 3 'n out. And the previous week it was similar, with him and the offense stalling at the most crucial stage of the game and allowing change of possession, but were saved by the special teams turnover.

@Merlin is there any space to question why McVay, on 2nd and 2, didn't just blast Gurley off tackle? He was running well and could have moved the chains right there. Two yards to go and you PASS three straight times?

McVay carries some of the blame here IMO.

Now of course they would have needed to score, then get the onsides kick handled and score again. But in order to do that you have to avoid going 4 and out.

It wasn't what I would have done I'll just say that. On that 2nd down the Saints are getting a dose of Gurley. Nothing fancy, just a really quick snap after breaking the huddle and then give it to him.

At least we’re arguing over what defines elite and if Goff belongs in that discussion yet rather than whether or not he’s a bust....ya know glass being half full and all..

Goff is really really good....will he be Tom Brady “clutch” (whatever that means) I don’t know and neither do you. I do know going forward I’d take my man Goff over just about anyone.

Now shut up and enjoy the next decade plus of very god football :violin:

That's assuming the saints don't drop a couple of games from here to the end of the season. No reason why they wont. Every team has a bad day.
But the Panthers are just one game behind them, so they will be pushing the Rams too. Also, McVay mentioned some reservations about how we finished the season, but not sure that includes resting starters for full games. I think it's wise to play starters for a half to keep from gaining rust

The Panthers will lose a game or two more. It's almost certain Cam will play like Cam and muff it up. I can't live in that type of world where you're worried about something that may never come to fruition. The Rams need to worry about themselves and fixing that awful defense and winning as many games as they can.

Back to back weeksour 24 year old QB went toe to toe with first ballot Hall of Fame QBs and didn’t flinch. It’s too bad people are focusing on the D’s problems and not re ognizing the positives.

Edit he’s proven to be a tractor to borrow the metaphor.
Beat me to the Tractor reference

Cooks coulda/shoulda caught that lass pass. Had his hands on it.
New Orleans makes 1 stop, after they take the 38-35 lead and Goff gets blamed. Good gracious

Goff gets blamed.

Yeah, I can't go with that either.

He missed one throw, the one to Woods.

Cooks should have the last catch; ball was right on him, two hands on it and the DB punched it out.

Wow bro that is some super sensitive reaction....

I never said anything about what he was never going to do...

I think the reaction stems from comparing a 5 time Superbowl winner with 290 NFL games under his belt, with the same coach, to someone with 32 total games under 2 different coaches.
Who completed 70% of his passes, had one TD dropped, and whose kicker missed a FG, got jobbed by the refs, and questionable support from his defense.

He did throw a bad pick though - I'll give you that.

Those 4 quarter flubs are also play calling. Our final possession is what 3rd and 4, and you're in 4 down territory and you throw 3 times in a row? I dunno seems like McVay gets a little pass happy at times. But it's all hindsight, if it worked McVay would have been labeled genius HC playboy, and Goff the next Brady. Instead he threw wide and now he's not elite and the Rams are suddenly paper tigers? lol

Point is the Rams STILL have the best record in football. So take it easy guys

I didn't see this before but we are of the same mind.

I can easily build a case that McVay takes blame for the loss more than Goff.

The fake FG took three points off the board. And the refusal to hand it to Gurly from the 50 on 2nd and 2. If they score on that drive then they would have had the option to go for the win on a 2 point conversion or kick the EP and tie and go to overtime.

Hopefully he learned from this.

This is why I said before that if I was Snead or Demoff I would hire someone to stand next to McVay and shout "GURLEY" in these types of situations.

Hell yes I would take that! Goff was being called a bust just 15months prior. There were lots of factors for yesterdays loss but our QB play was not 1 of them. Lets all take a breath. Once Talib gets back and Fowler gets better acclimated to the defensive scheme, I think we will see a different defense. BTW...... I sure would not want to be Petey Carroll and his Seahawks this coming Sunday.

There are only 2 other QBs that seal that game against us. Brady and Rogers.

Goff held his own against one of the greatest QBs to ever lace up cleats, who is having one of his best seasons.

I’m not worried about Goff in QT4. He showed a ton.

Let’s also not forget how Goff drove the final nail in the coffin against Seattle.

Yeah this was my entire point - I'm hoping he turns into that Tom Brady/Superbowl clutch guy

Somehow that got turned into "Goff is the reason they lost"

Which no one is saying... if anyone player is getting blamed it's Peters.

Counterpoint - Even watching Rodgers last night, I watched him miss some easy throws. WRs sitting in a patch of green with no CBs around them in a deep zone and discount double check turned into discount check down.
He's the GOATC-! GOAT CHOKER!

This is figured by using Goff's averages over 9 games, if spread over 16 games:

Yards: 5,006 yards passing
TD's: 36
Ints: 11
QB Rating: 112.9

Should be fairly accurate because the loss ensured the Rams would have to use starters to get the #1 seed, throughout the regular season.

Hopefully his averages re even better in the playoffs, and results in a Super bowl win.

Yeah, I take that all day and twice on Sunday.

Saints and Panthers play twice still. That is two losses in our favor one way or another. Highly unlikely both teams will catch/surpass us.

Our final possession is what 3rd and 4,

it was actually 2nd and 2.

not in a million years did i think they wouldn't get the 1st down there.

they need to see what went wrong and ensure it doesn't happen again.

If Goff continues to play like he has the first 9 games he won't be the reason if we lose in the playoffs. The defense cannot continue to play like it has the past month or longer. I know its against top tier quarterbacks. But who do you think we'll be seeing in the playoffs?

A great offense doesn't always equal wins when the defense is this bad. Before last season the Saints were a top tier offense but couldn't win more than 7 games because of a terrible defense. I know its a quarterback driven league. But your defense cannot be as bad as ours has been and expect to win.

I think there's a bit of hyperbole there in your post Jacob. My point was simply that Goff has demonstrated in the past couple games that he's not yet that QB who you know is going to ice the game in that critical situation. He's young and up and coming, and it's part of his learning curve so it's all good. No QB is perfect, none of them ice every situation. But the greats have iced big games in key moments and that's the difference.

Jared will get there. Nobody that I have seen is lighting the kid on fire for it. He did a great job of leading the Rams back, but missed a throw and that's a wrap.

@Merlin is there any space to question why McVay, on 2nd and 2, didn't just blast Gurley off tackle? He was running well and could have moved the chains right there. Two yards to go and you PASS three straight times?

Sure there is Les. And we always do question play calling as fans. But players are a big part of that equation and they didn't execute what was called plain and simple. If McVay had called a run and it was stuffed there'd be posters going on about how he should have thrown it. IMO the call was fine, that was a moment in which I was pretty damn sure Jared was going to get his first "signature" win. Didn't happen, kid wasn't ready, it's all good man that stuff is coming real soon IMO.

i was so pissed the higbee of old showed up at that moment. that was a bullet that threaded a very small needle. a pass that would have been fawned over by everyone. now nobody will even know it happened.
