Bad play by NRC and we got a way with one. It happens in football. -The clock. The facemasks. Throat stomp. The Rams got screwed too.

This one was just more dramatic. But can we cut the helmet to helmet narrative? It didn’t happen.

it was a shoulder to shoulder and he blew him up. Helmets never touched.

I'm one who felt bad about the non call but getting over it.

But I ask, what the hell was he thinking on that play? How do you not look for the ball as he could have picked it and went to the house. His technique on the lucky break up of the pass to Thomas in end zone was horrific.
His weak diving attempt of the interception was terrible.

How is he on the field for us?

NRC was one of the highest rated nickel DB's this season. He's had two tremendous playoffs games in my opinion.

There is a grey line of grabbing WR's around the waist that if you do it and let go quick enough the refs don't call a penalty even though it slows and reroutes the WR. This has been the case for many years in the NFL. It is what the Seahawks and now Cowboys have mastered under Kris Richard, NRC seems to have also picked up this technique and used it for us in critical moments now in the playoffs.

If not for the play of NRC we would NOT be in the Super Bowl, he made at least two critical plays in the Saints game that I can remember.

The controversial late hit verse the Saints WR in real time was bang bang in my opinion and a lot of times is not called, especially in the last minutes of a game. In slow motion it looked bad, but in real time it was the right call.

As Whitworth said, a possession earlier Goff facemask did not get called which would of given us first down at the 1 yard line. If that was called the Saints would have to score a TD at the end throwing the ball which makes the non call irrelevant.

No negativity towards players this week. The next two weeks should be spent praising the players, coaches, and anyone associated with this team. It may be a long time before we get another chance to see our team go to the Super Bowl. I've waited 19 long years for this damn it and we should be celebrating not criticizing.

And....we don't need yet another non-call/refs/rules thread here.

Merging. Come on folks...

Not me. Not even close.

After the Hekker spot-robbery in the first game between the Rams and Saints ... after all the uncalled delay of game infractions the Saints committed ... the uncalled face mask penalties, including the one on the previous Rams possession which denied us a 1st and goal at the one ... after the Saints had multiple chances to win after the uncalled PI ... after the way the Saints were gifted home field in the atrociously called game against Pittsburgh ... nope, not even the slightest.

They've been getting the calls their way all season and were getting them their way all game in the NFCC. The one time they don't get one their way, the melt down mentally and emotionally (exemplified by Sideshow Bob/Michael Thomas - after pushing off - begging for the flag instead of trying to at least prevent the pick by John Johnson). No, no bad feelings at all. They still had as much chance to win as we did. We took advantage of our opportunities, they didn't. The better, more deserving team won.

Oh, Jeez guys, I'm so sorry. I just realized that 3 years or so ago, when I was working with Google, I assisted D'Amico's ad agency with building him better advertising campaigns. I feel so bad for helping such a sleazebag. Fortunately, iirc, his law office was a pain at accepting help. Possibly why he was willing to file such a lawsuit that is doomed to failure.

Cooks was also very briefly grabbed by the facemask.

Cooks you mean right.

It's not more replays, and it isn't on judgment calls.

Simplifying rules leaves more room for opinion and judgement.

Consistent calls can be helped by allowing coaches to challenge calls.

The thing is, that was probably the most consistent officiating I have seen in a very long time. The calls/non calls did not favor 1 team over the other. The officials let the teams decide the winner. The fact that Asshole Face was throwing the ball and leaving it up to the officials to call a penalty. Instead of doing the smart thing and running the ball to force the Rams to use their time outs, makes it Paytons fault his team lost. If he hadnt figured out in the first 58 mins that the officials were letting the players play, he is even dumber than he showed by not playing for the win in the final 2 mins. I would be willing to bet that had the roles been reversed McVay would have ran the ball. And lets just say the D committed a penalty and it went unflagged, McVay would not just give up and let the saints win without a fight. Payton gave up on the game because he didnt get a flag that would have essentially given his team the win, but the non call did not give the Rams the win, the Rams still had to go out and earn it. The saints had just as much if not more of an opportunity to win and their coach gave up on them.

So, what you’re saying is...

The Saints suck?

The Saints were out played outside of the first quarter.
Their vaunted offense averaged 1.7 yards per carry and couldn't move the ball.
At the end of the day Brees is the Curtis Martin or Calvin Johnson of QBs. A great stat compiler who more often than not doesn't play that well in big games.
If the Rams DBs could catch he would have had three of four pics.
Need 400 yards at home vs the Lions or Bucs in October? Brees is your guy.
Need a tough, gutsy playoff performance in that same stadium? He usually can't deliver.

Simulating a ref's whistle... come on! I saw pics of that so-called "whistle monsta" last night. Dude is a freaking moron. People hate him, there were numerous tweets last night asking for him to stop the whistling, calling for him to get beheaded, asking for him to get escorted out. And several were Saints fans who were not only in the vicinity but were several rows away. How does some idiot get off constantly whislting as loud as he can at an inhumanly high decibel level, annoying everyone and trying to be a distraction? Don't even get me started on fans who try to shout as loud as they can so the opposing team can't hear themselves, what year did sports cross over into that poor sportsmanship nonsense? 1980s?

Anyway love the win over the Saints for many reasons. Another big game where we knocked them out of contention. 1st was in 1983, watched that too. That one non-call was bad, but those dumb refs were screwing us too, they were bad for both sides. And honestly Payton was outcoached. If they would've run the ball instead of called a pass for that incompletetion (stopping the clock at 1:43) we wouldn't be talking about that penalty. Our HC would've done the right thing, killed clock, he's done that all year. He may not be as experienced in longevity, but he knows how to close out close wins.

Was just talking to the wife about this.

The point of any contest is to determine a winner based on the virtues elevated by the rules of that contest.

Football should be determined by the skill, talent, execution, planning as well as some luck because the game is played with an oblong ball.

last I checked, the fans weren't a direct part of the game, so why should shouting and/or architecture made to augment the shouting determine in any way the outcome of a game?

Florio is like a dog with a bone. He'll never let go no matter how pathetic it makes him look. This began when he moved over to NBC, left West Virginia and became an East Coaster.

First it was his jihad to make the Redskins change their name. Then it was Colin Kaepernick and the anthem controversy. Now it's the Rams/Saints missed call. Since 9 am this morning there have been 10 articles directly or indirectly mentioning how the Saints got screwed over. Just watch, next season he'll still be banging this drum.

The Redskins still have their name. Kaepernick is out of the NFL and the Rams will be fine. Plus he picked the Rams to lose to the Cowboys and to the Saints. I'm 100% positive he'll pick the Patriots to win the Super Bowl as well. Everything he touches turns to crap except his site.
Florio also generated an article at the beginning of the season that states both Goff and Mahomes are “tier 4” quarterbacks. What a clown. He should be sued for libel.
