Would members here have any issues if the Wade's 2020 Defensive backfield looked like this?
CB- Jalen Ramsey/ Adonis Alexander
CB- David Long/ Troy Hill
NK- Darious Williams/ Dont'e Deayon $4,250,524

Saf- Taylor Rapp/ Jake Gervase
Saf- John Johnson/ Nick Scott

Snead decides to go for major salary cap relief with the trade of CB Nickell Robey-Coleman that produces $4.5 million of cap $$$ & procured draft selection. Release of 35 yr old Safety Eric Weddle for a cap savings of $4.3 million. Total near $9 million back into 2020 cap funds. In order to be able to entice 38 yr old Andrew Whitworth to return for one more season to start @ his old post until Joseph Noteboom 100 % healthy.
Alright. What's an NK? Nose kackle? Nickel kack? Near kicker?

I can't keep up with all your made up acronyms (of which there are 2 I know about)!

Nickle? I don't think that's really a made up one though. At least Nickle would be my guess.

I could see that. I had just assumed it would be NB for Nickelback, just like CB for Cornerback (and not something like CR). But it makes more sense that Nose Kackle, so I'll just accept that as the truth and move on with my life.

so you didn’t watch The Rams game, but have an opinion that PFF is not putting up solid stats on David Longs play ??
I agree that he was not playing at a top level during training camp(preseason), but
then again PFF had him mist as there top cover CB from the draft. My guessing is there formula is pretty consistent. What’s an example of them being wrong with a CB ??

yes - I guess Long Island would mean he can shut down a WR & stay on an island without any help ?? My opinion is limited as well, but why were the Cardinals throwing to Ramsey’s side ??
Rumor was Tyler Rapp had a standout game & an INT ??
Yes I watched the Rams game, not sure what you are talking about.

I’m pleased Long had a solid game, but IMHO to imply that Long had the “second best performance of any corner in the NFL for week 13” is, well a bit of a stretch. Long only played 27 snaps, did not cover the opponent’s top receiver (Ramsey did), played against a lackluster 3-7 team that was totally incompetent that day, and he only had ONE pass thrown his way. (And given that this was Long’s first significant playing time, I don’t think it’s fair to say the Cards avoided throwing Long’s way because they were “intimidated” by him... I just think the Cards in general were awful that day.)

Look, I don’t take issue with PFF’s methodology. But in this particular case, I think the high number Long received is a bit misleading. Did Long turn in “the second best performance of any corner in the NFL in week 13”? Gimme a break. It’s not like Long spent the entire game locked up against a playoff team’s elite receiver and swatted away five targets and had a pick-6 and a forced fumble.

I would keep Hill at cb2 and move Long to the slot. Hill has been very good this year.

Yeah I still feel like Long is going to replace NRC. Hill is a solid option outside the hashes but he's a guy who will require help vs the better WR corps. Rams will undoubtedly be on the lookout for a CB in the draft too.

your absolutely RIGHT !! Just watched the game & some of the reviews I’ve seen posted are out of line. Your opinion is very well thought out & truly objective.

-thanks for reply - Long was actually taking a lot of reps in place of Ramsey who was out because of the blowout. There were a couple weird D’ lineups with Long playing as 6 DB’s ??
Hill was actually better than David Long so he wasn’t even the 2nd best CB on The Rams imo. -PFF stats did not make sense imo as well. —

NRC , Hill just resigned, and Ramsey is under contract as well.
David Long still does not look ready. Was wrong about the PFF stat,it does not paint a full picture. Hill is playing real well. Ling got playing time because of the blowout & Ramsey was able to rest.

Yeah I also could care less about PFF grades.

Long simply has the coverage ability you want over the slot, and tbh it is just as important as playing outside the hashes because a lot of teams depend on the slot wideouts for extending drives.

Personally I am tired of NRCs inconsistencies there. Long will be comparable if not better but with a cheaper price tag.

Hill is basically a zone CB so he plays better than when asked to play man. Long is the kind of CB Wade likes, a fast aggressive press man coverage CB. Hill is the kind of CB you like in a basically zone defense like what the Hawks and Chargers play. It's why Hill's performance is inconsistent. He's making plays sometimes and getting abused on others.

It's why I've always seen as Long as the starting CB opposite Ramsey, because they look to be natural bookends. If they keep Hill, he's basically a nickel or rotational DB.

I have not been impressed with David Long at all. Maybe it is when he is zone coverage?? Then again your saying Wade doesn’t play much zone ??
— Right now I like the way Hill is playing.
I believe players can be coached up so I’m going by what I saw Sunday night & last week as well.
Ling actually looked okay playing the nickel last week against Arizona. But gives up to much of a cushion in zone .. Not sure how he did in man. I think in press he got away with a couple plays that went in a different direction. We’ll continue & give you credit if your right ??? Troy Hill has another year so cheering for him to continue playing well & improving. Really liked his ball skills.

Is Alexander strictly a CB, or might he be used as a CB/S hybrid ?
