Agree. So glad we avoided guys like DK Metcalf... who reminds me of Cordarrelle Patterson. That guy just never became anything close to a complete receiver and was much closer to a tall version of Tavon Austin.

Rapp and Long instantly upgrade our D and Special Teams as does Henderson who’ll likely take over return duties.

As we’ve seen with the Pats, you don’t need Uber SPARQ guys in every spot to succeed if you’ve got competent guys all executing the play with precision.
You just said it. This is a very Pats draft.

Hell ya, love the high IQ factor we want in our players, also we value players that starter many games in college. These 2 skill set really have been a blessing since McVay has come on board. It just a smart way of going about what they want when building their draft boards the last couple of years. Less chance of drafting busts!

Rams have drafted very smart players, except maybe the RB isn't, I don't know.

Only problem is, David Long gave up 130 yards and a TD.....

Holy crap, who puts up a crazy stat line like that?!? Can’t believe that stat isn’t getting more publicity.

For most CB’s, that’s a bad GAME to move on from. Lol.

L.A. Rams 'got richer' by drafting Michigan football's David Long
Orion Sang, Detroit Free Press Published 11:58 p.m. ET April 26, 2019 | Updated 10:09 a.m. ET April 27, 2019

David Long grew up in Los Angeles. He emerged as a 4-star prospect at Loyola High School before a three-year stint with Michigan football.

Now, Long is heading back to Los Angeles. He'll play for the Rams, who drafted him in the third round with the 79th pick of the NFL draft.

It's a homecoming for the 5-foot-11, 196-pound cornerback, who will join a team that made a run to the Super Bowl this past season.

“It feels great," Long said in a conference call with reporters on Friday night. "It’s a blessing. I went to school in Los Angeles, so to be able to really come back and play at home, it’s a blessing.

"Just to be able to come back home, play football and get another opportunity to play. I’m just really happy and grateful for the coaches and staff for believing in my talent and I’m really just ready to get to work."

Long started for U-M the past two seasons and helped the Wolverines field a stingy pass defense. As a sophomore, he recorded 21 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defended. In 2018, he tallied 17 tackles, one interception and nine passes defended.

He fit well in Michigan's scheme, which asked him to play press-man coverage nearly every snap. He was thrown at infrequently; according to Pro Football Focus, Long was targeted 60 times in 595 coverage snaps and gave up just 18 receptions for 130 yards.

While Long almost exclusively played man coverage, the Rams saw enough on tape to believe in his versatility. They think he can play both man and zone, and also complimented his ball skills and speed.

“Anybody who is a Rams fan knows that I have a very talented position group," Rams cornerbacks coach Aubrey Pleasant said Friday, "and you could say that the rich have gotten richer.”

Long joins an experienced secondary featuring veteran cornerbacks in Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters and Nickell Robey-Coleman. Los Angeles doesn't need Long to start immediately, which means he'll get a chance to learn from those ahead of him.

“He’s in a position where he can grow, he can be patient," Pleasant said.

There were several ties between U-M and Los Angeles. Pleasant was a graduate assistant under former head coach Brady Hoke and remains close to people within the program. He made a couple calls about Long and liked what he heard. Long also mentioned seeing former assistant Jedd Fisch during his visit with the Rams.

“The city’s not going to be too big for him and he’s also coming back home," Pleasant said. "So it’s a good situation, I think, for both parties.”

Yeah I like this kid a lot. Sticks to recievers. Physical. You betcha he eventually moves past Hill for 3rd outside corner. Will see spec teams duty with Rapp in year one with some D packages thrown in. Along with Weddle and the absence of Joyner the Rams dbs got a hell of a lot better this year.

Seems to project as a nickel corner. Thought they would want one to play outside with Peters and Talib on contract years.
I think the man press aspect was something they felt they needed against teams with players like Edelman. Him burning us in the SB had to leave a bad taste in the mouth of the coaches. This kid can line up on the possession/route tech/shifty receiver and take him out of the game. I love this pick.
I think he will end up playing outside - probably needs a year's development time to be ideal for that, but a press corner will fit in nicely.
Not too sure about that. I like NRC but I'd be nervous if I were him. He didn't have his greatest season last year and was absolutely schooled in the SB.

I'm not too concerned with his height. Heck - he's taller than JJ. But that also likely means they don't plan to put him on big receivers or TEs. That was always JJs Achilles.

Agreed on that bold part. Not a fan of trading up to get him. Guard material if you ask me, but, what do I know (see original post).
LG was #1 on my wish list going in. Not for this year, but to be ready to start next year if Note moves over to LT.
Hopefully Evan's can be the guy.

@Corbin remember what I said last night about the Rams not needing a CB? Or a RB? Or a safety?

I'm so good at this stuff I crack myself up!

I thought RB was a luxury position we may grab late if at all. And didnt think S was as big a need as our draft seems to reflect, although S do play ST so there is that. I am definitely no threat to Snead at GM.

A couple of thoughts:
1.) I don't see why some are saying he is small at 5'11" , that's same size as a lot of starting CBs in the NFL. I dunno mebbe his arms are too short or something.....

2.) I watched the interview of Coach Pleasant and is it just me or does he look like a guy who is going to be a Head Coach someday in the NFL? Just something about the way he handles himself......

just my .02

That's what the NFL network announcers said but I think they may be wrong. The the scouting report above said something to the extent of "may have problems adjusting to slot", so I think he's been playing an outside shutdown type dogg.
