So, this means that you believe that Purdy is worth three 1st rd picks and a 3rd.
No, the jury is still out on him. It just means the cost they spent to get a starting QB and a backup QB is the same regardless of which one actually starts.

If Brock Purdy isn't the answer and they have to go take another swing for a QB, then we can say the Lance move was a waste.

Obviously they whiffed on Lance but that trade hasn't hurt them. They made a trade for a high pick for a starter and picked a 7th round flyer for a back up QB. They now have a starting QB and a backup QB. The fact that their names are different doesn't mean the cost was different.

Their amazing find of Purdy in round 7 offsets their whiff on Lance.

If you want to make a bunch of Niner fans feel good, you would post this on a 49ers' Forum.

Please DON'T post this on a 49ers' Forum!!!

Niners made the championship last year with Purdy as a rookie.

They have made Super Bowls and championships with G-string.

They don’t rely on top QB play to beat up on the NFC.
Very true. Their approach is a solid run game and intermediate passing. And that is totally dependent on a healthy O line. Last year their starters logged 17, 17, 16, 16 and 14 starts. 2021, 17, 17, 17, 15 and 8. 2020, 16, 16, 16, 14 and 5. They haven't had injury issues to more than 1 position on the OL. They're due.

But upon further review, they went 4-12 with only 1 game lost to injury on the O line in 2018. Garappolo missed 13 games. They went 6-10 in 2020 when Garappolo missed 10 games. So maybe they depend on the QB a little more than we credit them?

It was on Jourdan's podcast over the summer: Shanahan believes if necessary they can just beat you up physically. And I hate that.

I am hoping Lafleur brings a little bit of that attitude to our offense. Run the ball and be physical.

This Lance trade reminds me when the Rams traded for Tommy Maddox yrs ago right before final cuts at the end of the pre-season.

Maddox was a surprise 1st round pick by the Broncos while they still had Elway. So they decided to trade him after a few yrs and I believe Knox traded a 4th for him.

He didn't do anything here and eventually ended up in Pittsburgh and played a few yrs with them with some moderate success.

They can win all the regular season games they want. As long as their season ends with a loss at some point I'm good.

Shanny’s something isn’t he? He says they haven’t given up on Lance and he's still in their long term plans, 3 hours later he’s on a plane to Dallas. That’s some Belichek shit.

Pretty much Head Coach shit. Non will tell you anything important. They just all have different ways of doing it.

I like Purdy and he is an amazing find in the 7th.

But it'll take them a while to get where they could have been with those first round picks.

We'll see how Purdy does this year before claiming he evens out on the Lance flop, in my opinion

Guys guys.... with Chris Jones holding out, the Chiefs are reeling and it's wide open for the Rams to take best team in the NFL.

I kinda hate the way fantasy football and madden have created this "I'm a fan of the league" mentality.

I mean zero offense to anyone here, btw. There are a few players on other teams that I'll admit I like. Usually former Rams picks but not always.

I've learned it's okay to tell my brothers or even close friends "I love you"......
......but to tell anyone, even anonymously online, that I like a player on the 49ers???
Whoa bro. I'm not into that stuff.

Right now is the most important time in training. This is when teams either gel or they don't. This is the coaching staffs time to go to work and get the team ready. The Rams blew it last season and they fielded a team that wasn't ready. I'm sure they learned from that mistake. The first two games will tell it all.

Well everyone had feeling there was something up between McVay and Goff because of the comments he and Snead were making, in this case Shanny claimed to be ready to stay the course, I’m not sure anyone believed him, and then shipped him out. I’m sure he’ll say something about doing what’s best for both parties and giving Lance a chance for a fresh start.

So the Niners trade their 3rd-string-QB, and you think they are in trouble?
I certainly don't think it bodes well for them - if just from a structure point of view.

What I think is interesting is that they now have Mr. Irrelevant (150 yards/game) as their starter after Tommy John surgery with their back-up being someone just above a bust considering his draft position.

I realize the common wisdom is that any QB can succeed with that roster and in Rat Boy's system and with that defense but I'm not so sure. Dweebo is a question mark to me. Aiyuk needs someone to get him the ball downfield. Kittle is going to get his 700 yards but also needs someone to get him the ball downfield to make his splash plays. I don't wish injury on any player but McCaffrey isn't exactly a lock to finish the season. Add in that their highly drafted kicker is already injured, they have contract issues with their best defender, and they have punks in Warner and Greenlaw, plus they lost Ebukam, etc...

If they start out slow, like they can do many times, I wouldn't be surprised if the wheels fall off the train.

If Purdy is special, the 9ers will be okay for a bit.
But, they keep completely wasting their first round picks and we know that catches up with a team.

The Lance trade.. Kinlaw looks like a bust.. their record with first rounders ain't good.

An injury to CMC... Purdy just being okay.. and who knows what the season looks like for them.

I agree with most everything you posted above.

However, did yesterday's trading of Lance (their #3 QB) impact any of your above points?

For example, is 'Dweebo' more of a 'question mark' since the Lance trade?

Again, the first line of the OP's post is ... 'All of a sudden the NFC WEST is wide open.'
I disagreed with THAT comment. Yesterday's Trey Lance trade did NOT change the landscape of the Division.

Personally, I would be surprised if the 'wheels fall off-the-train'. However, I hope they do. In fact, I hope the wheels fall-off as the 49ers' Train is crossing a bridge between two high mountains ... and the Train falls a thousand feet to the jagged rocks below ... and then explodes. I would be OK with that!

That is if you believe in Purdy that much. I don't buy him as a franchise QB or a game changer. So no... IMO Purdy doesn't come close to offsetting the whiff. If Purdy ends up being the next Tom Brady (puked a little in my mouth), then .... Lance who? But otherwise, it hurts them by not only not having their franchise QB but the picks it cost them.

I guess that depends. We've seen Rat Boy take a "loaded roster" and go 6-10. He seems to be kind of unlikeable. That Lance issue has to be a dark cloud. It could create further negative vibes.

Yeah I'm hoping. But it still could be that the OP is correct. :hope:
