Whit must have been getting overwhelmed by hate-tweets. He reportedly, according to Rich Eisen, has eliminated his twitter account. People can be a-holes.

If he does come back any chance Noteboom moves to LG for a year, Blythe to C, and Sullivan to the curb?

This is assuming Saffold is back.

I believe he will fully honor his 3-year contract agreement with the Rams. For a 37 yr old starting LT his health is better than most 30 yr olds. Plus AW is playing the NFC West division ;)which should give him 8 home games in southern California (maybe one of them in Mexico) plus two other gms in AZ & SF. So 10 games on grass. AW will have two tough AFC North gms away (Brown/Steelers) & two away in ATL & Carolina. So its a friendly 16 gm schedule for a very old LT.

The only negative element to having AW play in 2019 is his near $16 mil. cap hit. IMO AW is worth every cent. The Rams franchised player Goff has proven in 3 seasons plus, he is not effective when his OL is not performing @ near perfection. Goff will always need a great OL to win often. Thus AW is the key to this teams 2019 success.

The OL might have some changes forthcoming shortly. UFA starting LG Saffold who's 2018 salary was near $8 mil will demand a slight pay raise. Of the 23 Rams entering free agency, Saffold is far the most important to retain & provided a long term contract to. If the Rams have to trim some veterans at the salary cap relief alter then I would suggest 3 prospects ....ILB Mark Barron (saving of $7 mil.), Marcus Peters (savings of $9.1 mil) or OC John Sullivan (saving of 4.3 mil) that can be replaced easy enough.

33 yr old Sullivan SB performance was mostly poor due to the fact that Pats HC mandated it. Rams are loaded in young center prospects. Starting OG/OC Austin Blythe who will enter his 4th season. Snead's drafted thick strong Brian Allen in the 4th rd in 2018 & appears ready to start. In addition, he also has a 3 yr player Aaron Neary as well as JJ Dielman as his 4th & 5th Ram OC's this past season.

*gets out calculator*

ok.....let me see, hmmmmmm......yup, that looks like 11 million and one reasons to come back.

AW is slated to earn in 2019 a base salary $10.25million, A signing bonus of $1,666,668 mil. Plus a roster bonus of $500K plus the Rams restructured 2018 funds of $3,492,500 mil into 2019 yr.

My guesstimate is AW is due approx. $15.42 mil this upcoming season. Spotrac says $15.9 million cap hit for AW's work in 2019.

I think Whit comes back. I get exactly where he's coming from. All he's saying is the SB isn't the be all of life. The man's a Christian.. and he's simply saying there are more important things to life than the SB...and that is true.

Doesn't mean he didn't want to win it. Of course he did...but folks looking at his career, having not won in the playoffs until he joined the Rams, and the losing in the SB...folks were making his career to be a failure.

Whitworth taking time to decide whether or not he’ll retire, Rams support decision either way
Clarence Dennis

Veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth wrapped up his 13th NFL season from a Super Bowl LIII podium on Sunday night, and the 37-year-old team captain who’s played in more than 200 professional football games was asked if the Rams’ 13-3 loss to the Patriots would be his last.

"I don't know. Some guys in the locker room were begging me to not say anything like that, so I have no idea. I really don't,” Whitworth said. “I still love playing. I still love the game. I still feel great. I still play at a high level and who knows, we'll see. I'll let the offseason play out and kind of see what's best for the franchise, what's best for me, and see what happens."

Whitworth spent 11 years of his career in Cincinnati after being selected No. 55 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft before joining the Rams in 2017. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound pass-rush deflector is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro. In his second season in L.A. as a protective cornerstone of quarterback Jared Goff’s offense, it’s no surprise members of the NFC Champs want Whitworth back for another run at the Lombardi.

“It’s going to be a goal of mine to try to sway those guys [Whitworth and LG Rodger Saffold] to come back,” third-year offensive lineman Austin Blythe said after starting 16 games alongside Whitworth in 2018. “ know Whit’s put his heart into the game of football for so long, so if he chooses to step away nobody can fault him. He’s had a fantastic career, he’s played a lot football.”

Whitworth’s junior of four years and head coach Sean McVay agreed with Blythe after telling a story of discovering the LSU product and father of four getting back to work on a stationary bike at the team’s practice facility not 24 hours after falling short of a world title.

think that's something where he's certainly earned the right to be able to make that decision,” McVay said. “I know that there's a lot of people that are hoping that he does [return for a 14th season], but if not, I don't think you can say anything but what a phenomenal career and what an even more impressive person this guy is being around him.”

Two games after picking up his first-career playoff victory in the Divisional round against the Cowboys, Whitworth was provided the chance to find late-career football glory and ride into the sunset as a world champion.

Just before his offensive line took home the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the year award at the NFL Honors event the eve of Super Bowl LIII, Whitworth won the NFLPA 2019 Alan Page Community award for his efforts organizing support of those affected by the November fire events in Ventura and Los Angeles county, as well as the Borderline shooting in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He was the Rams’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2019.

But now, after falling to the Patriots in the lowest-scoring affair in Super Bowl history — his offense hanging just three points on head coach Bill Belichick’s defense — Whitworth appears to be at a crossroads, another year as the eldest Ram protecting a No. 1 pick 24-year-old franchise quarterback as likely early Super Bowl favorites, or a life beyond the game for the player who’s dedicated his career to bettering the lives of others outside of football.

“So yeah, I'm disappointed, but I've played for 13 years. I've played almost 13,000 snaps of NFL football. I love the game. I love every bit of it. You're not going to get me to pout and feel sorry for myself,” Whitworth said, before putting the game’s awards and accomplishments like Pro Bowl selections and Super Bowls victories into perspective.

“Who you are, how you carry yourself, and whether you pout and feel sorry for yourself are the only things that are going to matter, because that is what people are going to remember about you,” Whitworth said. “So for me, what means the most is that guys see me hold my head high, confident in the locker room and I'm there for them in any way moving forward.”

Let him play two more years!
I don't know...Whit seems strong for the first 10-12 games, but then his body starts to give out. Rest helps, but it makes me wonder if Noteboom would be better later in the year. Noteboom has taken over for Whit at times in real games, and he didn't miss a beat. Are we grasping at Whit because he's comfortable to us? Might Noteboom be just as good as Whit right now?

I have shared my thoughts that his performance may be slowly trending downward but with his experience & what he provides to this offensive team overall as a leader is invaluable. McVay & his OC Kromer had a plan early before the season began to give AW the proper rest in TC/ preseason & the regular season. It appears to me to have been successful. I see no reason that those two can't repeat the same plan & even modify this plan to where Joe Noteboom will see a good amount of snaps as the starting LT during each regular season game.

UFA Saffold's departure could cause some problems with that plan but if Noteboom ends up as the starting LG the Rams could still give AW rest periods during the game where they send in a relief OLG (either Allen or Demby) to let Noteboom slide left a few feet @ LT.

I think retaining Saffold should be a priority. He should do well for another 4 years, imo. I love Whit, and once he is done I wouldn't mind it if the Rams kept him on as an adviser for the Oline. We need to invest in a premium Oline guy this time with the intent of replacing Sullivan. I don't have too much faith in Blythe or Allen at starting Center.

i did notice Whitworth get noticeably worse towards the end of last season. I attributed it to age, but perhaps it was just coincidence, as I did not see any decline in Whitworth's play towards the end of 2018-19 and this was despite him being a year older. Despite this, if he does come back, I would like to Noteboom get a lot more snaps next season. We need to know what we have in him *before* Big Whit retire. You can't look past anybody in this league, but why not start giving Noteboom some action against "lesser" teams to see how he does? The plan can for him to be the start in some of those games and Whitworth can come in if Noteboom struggles. This will help keep Whitworth fresh deep into the playoffs.

He was damn good for us in the playoffs. I want Whit back. He's a tremendous leader, and even if Noteboom were to step up and earn the LT job, Whitworth has played OG before at an elite level.

Kartje: Looking past the Super Bowl and into the offseason NFL abyss
https://www.pe.com/2019/02/09/kartje-looking-past-the-super-bowl-and-into-the-offseason-nfl-abyss/

By Ryan Kartje

For two straight seasons, the Rams starting offensive line didn’t miss a single start due to injury. That’s simply amazing in today’s NFL, where continuity up front is absolutely crucial. The Rams have something special in that regard, and they’d be wise to keep that intact as long as possible.

First and foremost, that hinges on whether left tackle Andrew Whitworth decides to retire. But beyond Whitworth, the Rams front office has an important decision to make with Rodger Saffold, who is likely to elicit plenty of interest on the open market.

Rodger Saffold has been one of the league’s best interior linemen over the past two seasons, and at 31, he’s shown little sign of slowing down. Let’s not overthink this. Saffold has said he’d like to return, but wants to be “treated fairly.” Interpret that how you will, but I’d say Saffold, of anyone in the Rams locker room, probably deserves that fair treatment, given how long he’s been with the organization.

The Rams offensive line has been their most valuable asset over the past two seasons. Protecting that should be a top priority. Within reason, of course.

FYI Whitworth goes on vacation with McVay. I don't think he's leaving unless he really feels physically like he's done.
