So do we assume that if a RB in this system is struggling with blitz pickup that he also can’t find a spot on a struggling ST’s unit through the last 17 weeks?

I’m not buying it. My guess is he isn’t working hard enough or showing that competitive sense of urgency that McVay likes to zero in on. Tutu Atwell went through this early on.

The inactives speak to something the kid isn't doing right. Rivers is over him and passing him on the depth chart should be easy but apparently not for Hunter.
It took Corum a while to pass Rivers. Everyone assumed something was wrong with him, too. It’s a mistake to assume that passing Rivers is easy.

Also, it's clear that McVay has high standards for his young RBs.

Rivers shouldn't be hard to pass. Talk about the pure definition of a JAG.

They Probably don't trust him to pick up blitzes with Stafford in there. Still, you would think they could throw him out there for a couple of first down runs just to give the kid a couple carries this year.

but he can pass pro. We have a 37 year old QB. Do you remember the hit that ended Steve Youngs career? it was ex ram Phillips that whiffed and let Aenas Williams in. You don't see much of the RBs missing their blocking assignment on this team. It probably goes with understanding the system as well. Plus I am sure he can run.

How do you know that is the case? Has that been said by McVay or anyone in the organization? Or are you placing your own assumptions on the kid?
I watched him quite a bit in college and he was not asked to pass protect much, but when he did, he did not always square up properly and was driven into the QB. It was also mentioned as one of his work ons in his draft profile.

Many rookie RB’s struggle with this and the fact that Rivers is playing over him speaks volumes in that area IMHO.
