From memory, I say they give the QB too much time to throw and CB play. The one time they got pressure, it ended with bad luck. They do come in the second half when the Rams get tired. Maybe a blitz would work if they tried it.
No one doubted that. Unfortunately, it seems to be costing us more and more. We used to never blow leads. It was unheard if. Something spooked McVay at some point and changed his methodology when holding a big lead. No idea what it wasHave you ever stopped to ask yourself how many times that overthinking has won us games?
We're in the playoffs every year and have the kind of franchise that 90% of fans would kill for. So, I think it's working out just fine at the moment no matter how infuriating it can be at times.
I highly doubt that. And even if they do, it comes with the territory of being a public figure.
HAD the awareness of a brick, referring to that specific moment. I have said in other threads how I was impressed with some things he did in the game.
Boy, oh boy, did YOU nail it!!!Don't know why DBs don't follow the golden rule: ALWAYS turn the F around! Drives me bonkers.
Which is why, blitzing should be the go to. You can''t be beat deep when deep isn't in play. Maybe Forbes could blitz instead of cover. He is fast and it wouldn't be expected. Probably whif on on the tackle though.Going off memory it seems like most of the 2 point conversions we give up are passes. Our corners have sucked for a while now, at least until this year, though the moment Watson went out we were right back where we were just with McDuffie erasing one threat.
So I'd say the answer to why we're bad at defending 2 point conversions is because our secondary sucks ball sack.
The offense just goes cold for 2 or three series right when their offense heats up. They loose focus or something when they get up on teams. You can say McVay is to conservative and when he tries to run out the clock I agree, but the ergency seems to just go away. The other teams O puts out more effort against some sort of softer D than earlier and our O just crumbles until they fall behind. It also feels like we're on a string of some very bad luck in the regular season. Carolina and Chicago we sort of exercised those demons....but in the regular season its not pretty.
Dating back to last year, there have now been 9 games that were decided by one score where the other team (whether it was us or them) had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead (so not counting the Lions game where we were up 14 and they scored late to cut it to 7).
In those games, we are 3-6.
The wins are against the Texans, Colts and Seahawks (in LA).
Four of those losses were fairly miraculous - the Eagles meltdown last year, the Niners Thursday night game where Kyren fumbled on the one yard line for what would have been the game winning TD, the Seattle Thursday night game and then the Broncos game last week.
Special teams played a role in all those losses as well. Missed kicks in the three last year, and then the short fields against the Broncos.
The other two losses featured a pick six by Stafford (Falcons and Panthers last year). And then the game against the Broncos featured a pick six as well.
All to say - the defense really is not the problem here. It failed us against Seattle in the NFCCG alongside special teams - but overall, if you go back to last year they really weren't the primary reason we lost any game.
ST yes.Everything you said here is well and good, but the defense and special teams have not been good enough this year and I think the coaches would agree.

I do think blitzing is something Shula sucks at. And I see it as an extension of the fact he only did one season in the secondary, a season btw which was a complete catastrophe. In order to get creative blitzing you must have a strong grasp of the back end and how players rotate etc.Which is why, blitzing should be the go to. You can''t be beat deep when deep isn't in play. Yeah, but they tried to address the issue of giving the QB too much time to throw. We just had the shit luck of Garrett getting injured. From memory, I say they give the QB too much time to throw and CB play. The one time they got pressure, it ended with bad luck. Completely disagree. You see when the ball is about to be caught unless the WR is planning to wedge it in his helmet. When his arms raise you turn your head and get ready to catch that thing. Done it a million times in my youth. Not feasible to turn around every time. Many times you wait for the catch and disrupt by pulling an arm down.

What I don't get, is they don't want to blitz to protect the back end when because they don't blitz, they don't get to the QB and leave the back end vulnerable. Seems backward to me. I have seen many defenses, when their back end gets riddled with injuries compensate by blitzing. I agree that the Rams need a DC with a ton of experience. Stop bringing guys from within. Then back the fuck off and let that dude do what he does best.I do think blitzing is something Shula sucks at. And I see it as an extension of the fact he only did one season in the secondary, a season btw which was a complete catastrophe. Of course I have to admit I don't know for sure he's not knowledgeable enough on the back end. But it sure seems like we're a bit vanilla back there and I'd call it overly conservative. I'd love to see more switching things up, though I am not sure to what extent those things are related to McVay.
All that aside I have to think that if McVay had a legit DC running his defense that it would help him. He'd be able to not worry about it other than the occasional flipping of approach here and there as a head coach is wont to do.
Yes. But if he looks back even once, it's batted down. Poor technique.are you referring the ball perfectly sailing over his head in the corner of the endzone? that was well played by wallace--just an incredible throw and receiver made a tough catch.
IIRC, he missed Davante twice deep when Davante had a lot of separation.Yea I think the go to is wanting to blame McVay from a play calling perspective when the offense goes cold, and we really don't know....he did take accountability for the two drives after Denver scored and said he didn't like his play calls.
But its not the same.....against Seattle on Thursday night last year, he went run/run/pass and the problem with that was, we were just making it so Seattle needed one play (being too conservative).
Against the Broncos, in at least one of those series, but I believe both, he went run/pass/pass - the second down play just seemed to be covered.
I think a big part of the Broncos game that was different than these other two meltdowns is, Stafford was just off. He still threw for a ton of yards, but he was off.
That's another reason why for me, the Denver game was validating how good we are. It took Puka, Garrett, Kinchens being out, TEs going down and Stafford being off for a large portion of the game (wasn't just the pick 6 - he missed Ferg wide open in the first half, and several other throws) AND the calls in the last two minutes for Denver to squeak out a win at home. And they are a good football team.
Unless I’m missing a two point conversion that I don’t remember the Rams have given up five consecutive two point conversion attempts.
3 in one game vs Seattle
2 vs Denver
Why in the world are we not able to stop this play?
Forget 2-pt coversions. Last year in week 13 in the third quarter against Carolina, their qb tossed a 33-yard pass for a td on 4th-and-7.
Then, later on in the 4th qtr once again, on 4th down tossed another td pass from 43 yards to win the game. TWO TD PASSES on 4th AND LONG FOR TOUCHDOWNS.
Remember the Rams giving up a TD on 4th down to Chicago with 18 seconds remaining in the game during the playoffs. I think Caleb threw that thing form 40 yards out after scrambling.
