Goff is fools gold after the super bowl. McVay figured it out. It's like having Kirk Cousins...good enough to talk yourself into believing that you have enough at QB.

I think Goff is good enough to win a super bowl but he definitely needs the right team to do it

Look at the Tampa Bay superbowl win and the Baltimore superbowl win in the early 2000s

And Nick Foles? - no way he should have won but he had the right team behind him

Foles was on a hot streak and yes had a stupid team around him. But the fact is he pulled it off.

Goff I agree is good enough to win a Super Bowl. But the bottom line with QBs is some need a lot more around them to be able to pull that off than others. Goff is at that level where he needs a top run game and at least a good OL in protections. Which means he's like a lot of other QBs in the NFL.

To Brad's credit he immediately set to doing that when he arrived in Detroit. So we'll see how things turn out. But personally I think keeping that DC was an enormous mistake. And as expectations rise on Goff with them will come the pressure and we'll see how he handles it.

The DC may be the downfall of that team. I think offensively, they can be one of the top 5 teams in the league just like last year.

Their defense definitely was their downfall last year.

They were giving up on average over 32 points a game thru their first 7 games and if not for a really good 8 game - it would have been their first 9 games giving up that average.

I respect your opinion. I don’t agree with it.

I noticed in the second half of the season or so that Goff was making quicker and better decisions. He didn't throw an INT in the last 9 games. Of course, there were probably some passes that could or should have been intercepted. He showed more confidence and quicker decision-making.

He could win a SB with some help.

It's just guessing and opinions. I look forward to seeing if Goff can continue to develop.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he replaces Stafford in 2025 or 26?

I was thinking the same thing. What if the Lions decide to roll with Hooker after next year and don't want to pay Goff. We may have a fairly formidable roster by then and Goff might be the best free agent capable of winning at that time. I guess you should never say never. In addition, how long did it take Elway and Manning to win their first Super Bowls if you want to compare that all 3 were #1 overall picks?

Goff will never play for McVay again after the way he was treated. But he will be a sought after QB.

Most likely he stays with Detroit. Or as a northern California dude he might play for the Niners who will still need a QB. Or he might follow whiz kid OC Ben Johnson to another team when Johnson becomes a head coach.

Holmes won't chase fools gold. Goff has proved he isn't fools gold on more than one occasion. But I do believe my friends in the bay area that the Niners would make a play for him if given the opportunity. With the Niner's defense and offense, the Niners would be a legit SB contender. After the way McVay treated him he would have the motivation to sign with the Niners. Other than that I see Goff staying put if the Lions make him a reasonable offer.

I said that tongue in cheek but true, never say never. FarNorth and oldnotdead are probably dead on though. Whatever happened....and we still don't know exactly what happened between them.....it appears McVay threw Goff under the bus. But he did win a Superbowl in the process so there's that. I'd think if JG was a free agent and the Rams came calling, he'd have to weigh a lot of things before a final decision. What's more important, winning a SB or not playing for McVay? McVay 1 for 2 and 2 for 2 in CCG. Shanny 0 for 1 and 1 for 3 in CCG. Perhaps one of the best things McVay did for Goff was trade him and put that "it's McVay, not Goff" to rest. The kid played pretty damn well last year for somebody not named Sean McVay.

2 things overcome bruised egos. $$$$ and Glory. I don’t think the Rams would go after Goff - BUT -Goff is a grounded accomplished professional football player who likely fully understands the business side of the NFL. If the right $$$$ or the right amount of Glory goes thru Sofi - Never say Never!!

I decided to watch the first half of the Lions game and either Goff better not get hurt or Hendon Hooker is a decent back-up because Sudfield sucks.

The Lions turned those picks into trades that resulted in:

Traded with up from 32 with the Vikings for #s 12 and 46

6 Ifeti Melifonwu S (Rams 3rd )- looking like a bust
9 Jameson Williams WR (Vikings 1st)-looking like a bust
93 Josh Pascal DL (Vikings 2nd) - played ten games as a rookie

They traded #6 back to Arizona for 12, 34, 168. They turned them into

26 Jamyr Gibbs - considering RB value it may not be wise.
87 Sam Laporta - TE, tbd

168 was traded to the Cardinals and they got 92:

98 Broderick Martin - DL tbd

It seems like their 2023 haul has more potential to pan out so imo Gibbs, Laporta, Martin and Goff.

Assuming they pan out. If the Rams had to trade Goff and his contract along with a great RB in Gibbs ( that they’d never resign) a pass catching TE in Laporta and a starting DT in Martin, they’d do it in a heartbeat. Stafford is worth much more than that.
Thumbs up for your research. For those keeping track I listed their jersey # in Honolulu blue for reference.

1st preseason game vs Giants:
Gibbs had a decent run for about six and a catch for 18. Announcers mentioned him as a likely starter. Fans are also liking him.
Martin, primarily a run stuffer who needs work on his pass rush, had 1 tackle.
Williams looked average; dropped a near TD catch and also had a 1-hander for a 2pt conversion. Saw him throw a decent downfield block on 1 play.

Of course the Lions picked up Teddy B to back up Goff so at least he has a decent vet behind him.

We still won the trade so far, just interesting to see what the Lions do with these. I like Holmes, Goff and Coach Campbell and would like to see the Lions at least make the playoffs again this year. When/if they get there I'll be cheering when they play well and groaning if they don't same as last year.
