One argument in favor of the Rams winning the trade is the Superbowl championship. That is what everyone strives for. Detroit has yet to achieve that. Some are of the opinion Goff doesn't win that Superbowl. Maybe not even get there. Stafford led them from ten points down in the 4th quarter against the 49ers. Made a big throw to beat the Bucs. And a clutch drive at the end of the Superbowl.

My opinion? That trade is still yet to be determined. Detroit has a good young team now. But if you base it on the two years following the trade the Rams won it easily. A championship cements that.

If Detroit wins a Superbowl with Goff and the young talent they acquired with the trade, I'd say Detroit won the trade if they stay competitive for several years. Only time will tell. We did not stay competitive right after the Superbowl win.

I agree they look like a playoff team but they haven't made the postseason since 2016. When they truly get there, they're a playoff team.
I think both sides won as well as both QBs. Stafford finally got rewarded for all his time under center banged up and injured. Goff went from a "bridge QB" to "the guy" in Detroit. The Rams got a Lombardi and the Lions have a bright future. And the Rams may be back in the postseason soon, so there's that.

Also keep in mind, Stafford asked for a trade, so he kinda forced them to do it.
Also, the 69ers were moving on him, and we couldn't let them get ahold of Stafford.

There are a few posts along these lines and I don't get it...the Lions went 9-8 last year and missed the playoffs.

I don't think we can say they're winning any side of this trade until they do something that they couldn't do with Stafford (win a playoff game)

Where would they be without the trade? I doubt they would have finished 9-8. Not to mention, as I mentioned, there is a longer term view. Some of the players they got from the picks are just rookies, and others were rookies last year.

I'll repeat - we got our win from the trade in the short term. Their win from trade will be longer term.

And I'll add - nobody should feel threatened that it's a win-win and that it might work out for the Lions over the longer haul. We both got what we wanted from the trade.

Agreed. I love Goff and have no beef with the Lions, but the hype is just that until we see wins in the post season from them.

I feel like this topic has already been dragged on this forum. Probably multiple times. There is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION who "won" that trade as things stand today.

What was one of the most impressive throws ever in the history of the entire NFL?
That no look pass from Stafford to Kupp in Superbowl 56. Nerves of steel.
That legendary throw was made dead nuts perfect by John Matthew Stafford.
Stafford also had every person in the world saying he couldn't win a big playoff game with the Rams.
He proved them wrong again and again. The Rams won the trade IMHO.
That being said, we do have to thank Jaquiski Tartt for dropping the easiest
interception ball ever thrown in a playoff game. Such a beautiful heartbreaking moment for the 49's fans.
I wish Goff and the Detroit Lions the best. If we don't win the SB, I hope it's them.

Goff didn't need a kick in the ass. He needed a coach that believed in him and was willing to build the offense to play to his strengths instead of constantly hammering a round peg into a square hole. As far as the SB in 2018 that was a team loss not Jared's loss. Frankly, McVay got out coached in much the same way he out coached Zac Taylor.

Goff never had a losing season under McVay even though he played behind a putrid OL. Revisionists need to be reminded that Goff got the team in position to win their final game in 2019 in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter only to have Zuerlein miss a makeable FG for the win. That would have put the Rams into the 2019 playoffs. People point to all of Goff's INTs but Stafford has thrown more.

Both Goff and Stafford are good QBs. Both need offenses that cater to their style of play. Both now have that in their respective teams. Stafford is a gunslinger who will press the envelope and isn't always successful. Goff is more methodical taking what is given. If you give him a deep strike he will take it but he will take short passes if you give him that.

End of story.

Believe me, a good wife/companion is worth more than and NFL career. If you have both you are one lucky guy. Of course having millions of $$$$ makes it easier. LOL
