I think too much credit is given to "Higher Authority", I believe in Occam's razor, that is the sheer incompetence of the refs. Some of it isnt their fault, the game is just too fast in addition to the multitude of outcomes that can occur during a single play. But a lot is their fault. I do believe that Puka has a point, like in baseball where the umpires like to be known with audacious K calls and throwing out players/managers at the drop of the hat, these refs/umpires on national tv like to be seen. And just my .02, but I think a lot of times they are determining a penalty prior to a play, like watching a tight matchup and thinking "next time I'm throwing a flag".
The gambling angle is silly IMO
So many people seem to be incapable of understanding that the referee's perspective was different than their own.

One of the things I liked about the World Cup soccer matches was the referee's view cameras. Put a high def cam in the brim of NFL ref hats so we can see what they saw in real time. A lot of the conspiracy theories will evaporate. I always thought the non-PI call in the 2018 NFC Championship was probably very defensible as a bang-bang call from that referee's perspective in real time.

I think anytime you have two or more refs looking at the same play where not all throw flags, there should be a short conference. If they disagree then someone with quick video analysis should be able to come into their earpiece with advice.

I don't think that supporting your team requires a fan to engage in conspiracy theories and accuse the refs of being biased, incompetent or dirty.

Today is Tuesday. Fans had their 24-hour period to vent. Time to turn the page. There is a reason I didn't post the comment right after the game. I get it, people are mad about the end of the game. Fine, blow off steam. We shouldn't stay there. It is too much. Pull back and let cooler heads prevail.
Fans HAVE the right to react any fucking way they want to any loss, you are not moral police, especially here. Learn your place before you become an outcast.

Dont disagree, however the ref who was looking directly at the play didnt make the call, it was the one from behind the play that did. Whoever has the best angle should be making the call

If your still not pissed about that game, I question if you are a true die heart Ram fan or just a casual fan. Oh, you are the smartest guy in the room as long as you are the only on in it. Oh, and when I read what you posted on here to my wife she said, "What an Ass Hat"!

i don’t think it’s a conspiracy

I just think vinovitch and his crew are terrible at their jobs and let the crowd intimidate them on sunday night
I agree - I don't think overall it is a conspiracy but Vinobitch's stats when he is doing a Rams game is quite terrible.

McVay's record is 152 - 93 yet when Vinobitch is refereeing he is 4 - 9. And Vinobitch was 0-8 before that.

That is more than a coincidence. Someone needs to sit Vinobitch down and ask him why the Rams seem to lose when he is the referee.

I don't want Vinobitch to referee another Ram game because those stats are just terrible.

The refs seem to get a lot of the 'catch, or no catch' calls at the sidelines correct. I am usually somewhat skeptical at times of the catch calls, until the replay confirms it. They're really pretty good with those calls.
And if you even fart before the snap, it's a false start flag.
So, how in T-F can you let some incidental hand pushing and tugging go on all game long, and then call something like that, from the backside of the play no less, that has so much potential to influence the outcome of a game at that point?
The NFL rules committee (if that's the group who would be involved here) really needs to focus on the (lack of) consistency when making these type of PI, or even holding calls.

Yup. The simplest explanation is usually the best. Every fan thinks the refs are against their team when calls don't go their way. The likely explanation is, the refs suck at their jobs. But it can be worse. Remember the replacement refs? Whatch gonna do? On to Philly.

NFL is n bed with $$$$$$$. Crazy ass foreign games, Games on streaming platforms, Advertising gambling sites, a ton of commercials. The game we grew up with has changed. They are making a ton of money but the average fan can’t afford to attend a game. Definitely not the same game it once was.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME PERSONALLY
Well there's a lot of evidence that you are definitely on to something.

I've always noticed that the home team seems to get a lot of preference in calls as well.
Now that I think of it, that's probably just to keep them coming back to those home games over and over again.
People would naturally want to relive that excitement of a win at home.

here's how I imagine it playing out.

Back ref, "I think the db moved the WR out of position"

Front ref "it looked pretty clean to me"

Push button to initiate cursory review of film by outside ref.

15 seconds later.

Outside ref "looks pretty clean to me."

Flag is picked up.

It isn't just incompetence.
The NFL can't get calls correct that TV fans could easily call correctly, given the replays/different camera angles we see.
The thing that doesn't compute is that the NFL could EASILY improve the reffing by for example having a 3 man crew of TV refs.
The 3 refs just watch what the fans watch, replays and all, and correct the calls. SIMPLE.

The fact that Goodell/theNFL don't do this (a minor expense in a billion dollar business) is a giveaway that they prefer entertainment=$$ to fairly officiated games. In short "Sports Entertainment", not sports.
Goodell and the NFL owners are billionaires what do you expect?

I will still watch because as exampled last night with Case vs Philly, there are amazing plays, great stories and players worth rooting for (including IMO most every Ram, thanks to McVay's insistence on character).

This post is entirely contradictory. If the NFL wants close games, then why was last night a 1 sided blow out?
National games so far this year:
Week 1
NE vs Seattle- boring AF
Rams/San Fran- blowout
NY/Dallas- Giants in control 2nd half
KC/Den- blowout
Week 2
Det/Buf- Bills was ahead most of game
KC/Indy- Exciting game
Rams/Giants- blowout
Week 3
Atl/GB- blowout
Rams/Den- Exciting game
Chi/Phil- blowout

So this idea that the refs are part of the entertainment, is just a joke. 10 games so far on National tv, 6 were blowouts, 2 were remotely interesting and only 2 went down to the wire

The main point is that the NFL could easily and cheaply improve the reffing but they do not.
And why don't they?
What about that?

All money and power once you get to a certain echelon is all intertwined. The people who own/run Vegas run this country. You dont think they have their fingers in the networks as well? Bc they do.

It's an interesting theory.

The Networks would have more to gain than the NFL by keeping games close. I would like to see a study done, but it may be impossible to determine whether the theory is true. Many calls are subjective, thus hard to evaluate. I want to see consistency. I would lean toward a home team bias on comebacks, as the crowd noise/envirnment could sway the refs.

Easily and cheaply? Hardly
Easy for a fan to say? Absolutely

Vegas is an Urban Legend at this point
Nobody needs the Vegas sportsbook any more

Im talking about more than just the sports books. Thats just surface level shit. The ties to wealthy Vegas owners and networks, politicians, media, lobby's, etc is deep.

If the refs are being biased, incompetent or dirty, the accusations are proper. When we see really bad calls, it suggests that one of those things are happening. Thus, it's appropriate to have discussions on it.
