Know Better Common Sense GIF by WylieFord.com

Gaines is staying. Been watching him a long time and he is the best IDL player on the team at the moment. SJD makes more sense to drop as his pay has to go up since he accrued enough snaps for heavy bonuses to kick in pushing his salary to 2 million or so. He's now a cap hit and not near as good as Gaines inside. Why he's been ahead of Gaines I have no idea. Just have to see how the rooks pan out. I think we see more of Gaines this season. He made plays every time he stepped on the field.
Not near as good as Gaines? I'm not sure what you're seeing but I've only seen a couple games where Gaines showed up. I like Gaines but the idea of cutting the up and coming SJD for a couple million in cap savings doesn't make much sense to me.

I suppose if our rookies blast out of the gates and make him a luxury but I just don't see that happening. McVay really hyped SJD a few times. I can't see him going anywhere.

The NFl is a tough business with tough decisions on careers. But in the spirit of building the perfect beast I sure hope the Rams add some veteran help for the LB corp. As example, cutting Young and using that $$$ towards someone like KJ Wright would be a good move BEFORE the season starts IMO.

I will be surprised if they cut Young. I expect him to improve. He is clearly well liked and a leader in the locker room. Will we cut any player who started on the no 1 D? Unlikely

The ex Steeler backup QB? Bank it

Garret as Brockers replacement? Huh?

A lot of other disagreements with that post, but what you have just said about Garrett is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
You havent noticed that the majority his threads are always about someone who doesnt make any sense replacing Brockers?

I don’t think being well liked is a major factor (see Jared Goff). I believe Young is a great person and decent NFL player but I haven’t seen any evidence of him being a leader in the locker room (like Johnson and Brockers were). I see Young and Reeder as quality depth but below average starters. The middle of our defense was by FAR the softest part of our defense last year. NFL teams took note of that.
As I said in my opening it is a tough business which requires retooling and justifying $$$ spent every year. Thus the reason for my sample cut/pickup for the betterment of the defense. I am confident it would improve the defense but I’m not sure if the Rams feel like the $$$ spent on Young is the best use of that $$$.

geeze low-eeze guys... this is a tough ass thread to navigate without reservations...

we have pretty good depth at almost all positions..

and if you ask me, no matter where the cuts come from or go, any cut could be an "i told you so"...

when you're this good.... damn... .... i don't know what to type next.... i've just done ran myself right out of BS....

good time to be a ramsfan i guess...

The very fact we are talking about vet starters and rotational players is a clear indication of how good this team has gotten. I have no doubt that anyone cut from this team will get hard looks by others who simply don't have the depth that the Rams have.

I equate Hekker's situation just like it was with Zuerlein. If he's released he won't have a problem finding a team just like Greg got picked up by the Boys very quickly.

SJD is probably good enough for several teams but with Robinson, Gaines, and Bobby Brown it looks like he could be odd man out. Drafting Brown is a clear message about how they view SJD. The same can be said about Kiser. Unless they feel he can play MO ILB he could be the odd man out. The problem with Kiser is his injury history. Kiser played well when healthy so if he's cut he will be picked up pretty fast IMO.

I’m confident in thinking that McVay embraces the “Strive for perfection and achieve excellence” philosophy. There’s always something to improve and ways of improving within the parameters of the NFL.

can you say Alec Olgaltree. Plus we had a lot of MLB start with the #1D. We could loose any of them.

What makes me laugh is if we cut Kenny Young, is nothing more than fill in LB on most teams, we save about the same money as cutting an All Pro Johnny Hekker.

And people saying we going to cut Hekker to save money :laugh4:

Keep Hekker for leadership unless he drops a nuclear deuce in the porta potty during training camp.

Unless they view SJD as more of a 5T than NT which is quite possible. Would they put Robinson in at NT though?

Or would they just rotate everyone around on the DL and say good luck teams figuring out who is going to play where.

Heck - I would rotate players from time to time right before the snap. But the timing would have to be right to be able to do that.

Might just cut them both, although Hekker is rocking out the new uniforms.
