Demby used to be our starter for a game at Guard due to injury.
He was on the 53 and a game-day active for about six games.

The problem with Demby is we've spent a Draft pick on him and he's prototype size so it'd be nice if he would have developed out.
Demby has only played in 3 games on the oline in his career.
And 6th round draft picks arent exactly cant miss guys.

Gaines is staying. Been watching him a long time and he is the best IDL player on the team at the moment. SJD makes more sense to drop as his pay has to go up since he accrued enough snaps for heavy bonuses to kick in pushing his salary to 2 million or so. He's now a cap hit and not near as good as Gaines inside. Why he's been ahead of Gaines I have no idea. Just have to see how the rooks pan out. I think we see more of Gaines this season. He made plays every time he stepped on the field.
I think Gaines is probably our best DL at just anchoring in at one spot vs the run and not being moved. But he's not so good vs zone run games because he's got that long ass torso and stubby legs and has trouble keeping his feet. SJD is better vs zone and he's solid vs power too, you gotta double him to move him so that's why I think he's the starter.

In that Green Bay game Gaines had some nice moments so I do hope they keep him around. It's probably good to have some guys who counter that power run approach we're gonna see here and there. This year's DL does look overall like it's gonna be fun to watch too. Hopeful those two rooks help us quickly.

SJD gets washed out a lot. Getting pushed 6 yards back and making a tackle isn't good D line play. Gaines is the inside guy and was getting good QB pressure and backfield penetration last season. SJD would do better at 3 or 5 than 1 tech.

You are not alone in a low opinion of Joseph-Day. OldNotDead shares that opinion, and has stated it frequently. However, I think you guys are in a minority here.

After a red-shirt season in 2018, I thought Jospeh-Day was very average (at best) in 2019. Thought your comments above described his 2019 play. However, last season, he was really good ... controlled blocks at the line, got off those blocks and made tackles within a couple yards of the line of scrimmage.

I have re-watched a bunch of 2020 games, and I did not see the player you described above.

Also thought Gaines was much-improved over his 2019 rookie season.

SJD only gets washed out when he is doubled. 1v1 he holds his own nicely.

I do agree he may be better at 5T. But where he plays probably has more to do with where they want BB. If they see BB as a 1T then SJD moves over.

I don't claim SJD is crappy. I'm saying he isn't the best option at NT. He wilts in the have of doubles but did better than '19. Gaines attracts more doubles as he causes more havoc along the opponents O line and occupies two gaps most of the time.

I agree.

SJD is very good against 1 on 1 but when he gets double teamed like the Green Bay game, he tends to disappear.

One position I'm going to be watching during camp and preseason is RB2. I just feel like Hendy is a guy who is only effective when the designed hole is there. Whenever that is not the case he tends to struggle to adjust even when there's an alternative. This happens over and over with him, it's a consistent issue. I don't know if it's a vision thing, or whether it has to do with holes in college that you could drive a golf cart through. But either way if the Rams really like any of the other options like Jones for example that job might be up for competition.

McVay said they were ready to go with Jones in the playoffs. So I keep thinking we might see some fireworks in that offensive backfield. And if Funk can stay healthy and get into all that as well things might really get competitive or so I hope.

Interesting observation. Henderson is a slasher and vision is not the problem imo. Slashers tend to commit to the hole because of the way they commit to bursting through it no matter the size. Slashers have a high gear that they hit very quickly. I think Henderson is a nice compliment to Akers. He’s good between the tackles and took over for what Brown did. Henderson is the power back. I wonder if the Rams are trying to add some muscle to Henderson.

I just hope they have another inside runner on the roster because ofHenderson’s past durability issues.

Awesome analysis, both of you. I think Henderson is a good compliment to Akers; he's a tough north-south runner with speed to burn. I don' t personally think his vision is a problem. I thought that he played very well last year, especially those games where Akers was out.

Not even funny, man.

What are you?
Jerry Seinfeld or something?

We're bringing all the pieces together.
We got our quarterback in Matt Stafford.
We passed on better players so we can get a gadget player by the name of Tutu and suddenly you decide you want to be a stand-up comedian.

This is NOT open mic night.

This is the NFL and that stands for not for long in your case!

Allen, Demby, Mundt, Webster, Young, Gaines.
Not Gaines I hope. He was pretty stout in the middle last year I thought.
DL takes a lot of energy, good to have a rotation.
AD, SeaBass, Robinson, B Brown, Gaines + Banks/EBrown.
Demby, Webster look like goners to me.
Mundt, Allen, Young maybe's.
