Which QB should the Rams draft next year and where?

I remain skeptical that they cut Williams without knowing whether they can retain any of their outgoing free agents. They may make an effort to resign Durant or McCreary before free agency. If they do, then they cut Williams; if they don't, Williams stays.

I also see them signing a vet as one of the starters. Forbes may be the other.

But the biggest, and in my opinion, erroneous assumption is that needing a starter means they will draft it early. We saw this before in the 2022 draft when they picked four secondary players, starting with Durant in the 4th round.

Their style would be to sign a vet - Durant or McCreary or my hope of Jaylen Watson - and draft the other starter, if it's not Forbes, at 167. 3rd round at the earliest. That's their style based on history.

They didn't have 2 first round picks and 4 picks in the top 100 in the 2022 draft.

They didn't have a secondary that completely collapsed down the stretch and cost them their best title shot since 2021, with their aging QB playing at an MVP level.

This draft class at corner may not have slam dunk top of the pile shutdown options, but it's deep. So yes maybe they don't need to use the pick at 13 on corner. How that goes comes down to how the draft falls. But they're not gonna start plugging corners in round 4 given the above.

Valid point. Go ahead and have all the hope in the world. I'm not getting my hopes up when they've had 24 1st to 3rd round picks over 9 years with only one 3rd used on the position. And again, it's not their MO to use the draft as the primary means to plug acute holes.

Not a fan of Levis but agree across the board with the rest. Payton might just have a place in the league as a Taysom Hill type

You draft a QB in mid rounds it doesnt mean he's the QB of the future, can still trade up next year for a QB if so desired. Bennett on the last year of his rookie deal, his spot of 3rd QB should be refilled, can even throw Bennett on the PS if need be

Lane could end up being a star in this league because he makes ridiculous catches and has great instincts to position for the ball. I just don't know what he'll run. But with a QB like Stafford it probably doesn't matter. He'd feed his ass like crazy. Lane is the perfect weapon for Stafford. His hands are special.
 
I suspect Robertson is going to have a strong week. But with his size if he does that he'll shoot right up the boards.

I disagree, Williams is gone. The cap savings, his age, and his performance this year makes it obvious to me he's done. Rams would be idiots to keep him around.

But there are no studs that will be available to us. Our last 3 long term QBs were # 1 overalls.
Its just not that good of a QB class. Where are the can't miss guys ???????

You may be right. Age is definitely a factor. But not so sure on performance and cap savings.

Performance wise, he was no worse, and possibly better than Durant and Forbes. All of our CBs were average - none above average, none below.

And since they always want a vet in the room and they're not gonna be able to get 4 CBs in the draft, they'll need to sign a vet free agent. A mediocre, average CB will cost them at least $7.5 mil. There go your cap savings.

Do can't miss guys exist? If they do, don't we need a #1 pick for that? With the front office, HC, and talent we have, the Rams won't be in play for a "can't miss" QB for a while.

I think a better question is, is there a potential starter that you can develop with a year or two behind Stafford? I personally think Simoson is that man. Others may disagree.

Remind me, who got burnt on that 1st play vs Seattle? He's gone brother. Williams is on the down swing unfortunately. If they go the vet route, it'll be someone else.

Oh come on! We can't look at one play to make an assessment. I know we're all fans - i.e. emotional, recency bias, not very scientific, etc. - but you're better than that. You may well be right, but one play in the most recent game is not the evidence.
