McVay needs/likes guys with big arms..
Not sure where this comes from. He loved John Wolford, gave chances to Bryce Perkins, started Brett Rypien and drafted Stetson Bennett, none of which have/had big arm
He gave a huge contract to Jared Goff, wouldnt consider him to have a big arm, surely enough arm
The thing about drafting a kid is that you know you have them for 4 years, so there's no need to rush to see what they got.
Levis is going on the last year of his rookie deal, could be a Garoppolo replacement and they could still draft a QB if they liked the potential

I think, like a lot here, he's fascinated with a mobile QB. That said the guy still has to have enough arm for him as well which is why those guys you mentioned are gone. If either had any kind of arm they'd still be here IMO.

Also intrigued by Levis like a few others are here.

On the experience thing, the stats do show that when a QB has less than 25 starts, they overwhelmingly fail. I believe that would be mitigated though because our plan wouldn't be to toss them into the fire as an immediate starter which is what is happening with 1st round picks nowadays. Having a guy sit for a year or two like Love and Rodgers before him seems to have some success.

I see no evidence that McVay needs a guy with a big arm / cannon. Goff doesn't have a cannon and he ran the McVay offense well. McVay got tired of his inability to mentally grow and adapt the scheme changes, not because his arm lacked in any way.

For this reason, I see plenty of upside with Simpson or Chambliss.
Goff has a VERY strong arm.

I’m sorry, that’s just silly.

He's never been described as having a huge arm. I'd describe him like Dieterbrock just did: "enough arm." The biggest description I've always heard with him is "he can make all the throws", not that he has a cannon.

He doesn’t have a “cannon”.. he has a strong arm. Velo was measured at 58. He throws deep outs and deep seams with power and accuracy.

Get him off platform and it’s a different story. He doesn’t have that wrist-flick, crazy throw ability like Allen or Stafford.

Malik Willis will be one of the top FA's this year, I would very much want McSnead to take a shot at him if Stafford retires. And him retiring will be the only chance we have as Willis will be desired for a lot of starting jobs.

Levis could be interesting but as some others have said, it's like he has no feel for the pocket at all and makes dumb decisions with the ball, hard to fix but not impossible.

And Beck further proves who he is as a person by walking off the field after the loss without shaking any hands.

I hope to holy fate we don't even sign him or Pavia as UDFAs, let alone draft them.

Yeah. I noticed that. Really a bad look.

Kid's done everything in his power to prove he's an entitled asshole. He's thrown his receivers under the bus, he's thrown his offensive line under the bus, he's thrown his coaches under the bus (all three without even thinking that he did something wrong, and it happened at Georgia and Miami, so it's not just one place he's had issues with), and now he walks off the field without shaking hands, a sore loser who is saltier than the Dead Sea.

He and Pavia are both on my Do-Not-Draft list, and at this point, I don't even think Beck's worthy of being signed as an UDFA; his attitude sucks that much.

Heck, he even thru NIL under the bus when asked if he was missing any classes, his response of "I graduated 2 years ago" while funny, was a bad look.
We all know what's happening but you dont have to broadcast that crap. As a graduate transfer, he's supposed to be matriculating in graduate classes

He’s got all the physical tools but he’s insufficient in the head and heart department. His body language sucks. He sulks. Right before the final drive last night, people were walking up to him trying to fire him up. It should be the other way around. He should be the one walking around, dapping everyone up, motivating the o line, telling the entire offense “hey boys, we are about to go score!!!!”. But everyone else had to babysit his psyche.

That said if he dropped to the 3rd or 4th round, I’d take a flyer on him. He’s started in like 40+ college football games, played in raucous environments, has all the physical tools. People who played worse than him in college went on to have good pro careers (Purdy, Dak). But first or second round?? Helllllll no.

No way. The quarterback position is the absolute last position you want with someone who has serious attitude issues or with throwing others under the bus, or who act like sore losers.

Compare Matthew Stafford to Carson Beck. Not their talent, just their heart and mindset. Pick whom you wish in whatever round. I'm going with someone who doesn't sulk, who acts up to the standards of the team, who doesn't throw people under the bus, who accepts responsibility.

If you go with the latter over the former, it's not just stupid; it's dangerous to a team's chemistry and if he's your starter, you will be fired for it.

I wouldn't. He's turnover prone, he has underwhelming physical tools, and I'm not a fan of the intangibles. I see nothing worth getting excited over.
