There's still plenty of roster work to be done.. but just a quick snapshot of what's gone on and what it means.

Stafford is back. Awesome.
Entire starting Oline is back. Awesome.
Kupp is exiting. Very, very sad but understandable.
Adams coming in.. a solid upgrade and a better fit with Puka and Tutu.
Higbee and Parkinson back.. both functional TEs.. nothing special, but vets who won't hurt you.
All the RBs back.

The offense is in a GREAT place.

Added Poona Ford and lost Bobby Brown. Based on past performance, a solid upgrade. There's a chance Brown grows up and grows into his ability... but having a real adult run-stopper is huge.
Waiting on Witherspoon.
Lost valuable piece in Hoecht.

So.. what jumps out as the most important next steps?

To me.. it would be nice to add a vet LB.. but I don't expect much here.

Must upgrade the Corner room. I think this will be done through the draft.. but hope Spoon is back as well. Keep's the floor of this room higher than without him.
Must upgrade tackle depth on Oline. MUST.

Corner and OT are, to me, the most critical NEEDS for the team now. There's a solid argument for ILB... BUT.. The Rams always seem to patchwork the position.. so I'm not expecting any huge investment there.

To me.. this points to CB and OT needing to be the top priorities in the draft now.

Agreed on your take,

But did we lose Hoecht? I didn't see anything on the FA wire... if he's still there I'd like to sign him, he's a solid player.

As far as ILBs, I'd like to get Greenlaw but it sounds like he's expecting a large sum contract and I'm not sure if anyone's going to give him that due to his injury. While he's a 1 of 1 ILB I'm not sure if that Achilles injury is going to come back, and being that he's such an integral part of any defense his absence would be huge. I'd only sign him to an incentive based deal.
Other than that, I don't really like the FA market beyond Greenlaw, while some might be a tad bit better than Roseboom, they will definitely be demanding more money than Roseboom and I don't think the Rams have much room to negotiate at this point due them trying to sign Spoon, Williams, and co.

Future OT / Depth is obviously a must. I'm not sure if we've cut boom yet but I expect to see that any day. Levistin is an interesting prospect but I don't know if he's a true depth piece or just a warm body.

Also signing Spoon is a must. I'm surprised it's not done yet, which tells me he's playing the market, and good on him. The rams have had their opportunities to sign him to a 3 year deal but have completely dropped the ball in that dept. Spoon was playing like a top 5 corner at the end of the season and the playoffs. Honestly, if he doesn't play for the rams the rams probably miss the playoffs, he was that good.
I expect the rams to add CB depth in FA and draft a CB in the 1st or 2nd rounds. I'm not too educated on college DB's but I'd love to see who you would want the rams to target in the 1st-3rd rounds

Cheers

We did lose Hoecht to Buffalo.. got a 3 year, 24 million deal. I really liked him.

Greenlaw signed as well. 3 years 35 million with Denver.

Jesus FA moves fast, well the Rams look pretty smart right about now, but damn that Denver defense is gonna be legit.

Rams can go any direction now they want in the draft, corner could be really nice high, hopefully a guy that can tilt the field.

Outside of that, Rams can build for future (OT, TE, WR, QB - hopefully day three dart throw in this class that doesn't preclude taking a swing in 2026,)

I didn't include RB and ILB because it seems the Rams have made their intentions clear here... however, that doesn't mean that it's a no, just unlikely.

Where are we, wherever we want to go in this draft, is were we at.

If the Rams took a QB swing on day 2 rather than day 3, such as Will Howard / Tyler Shough / Kyle McCord, would that preclude going back to the well in 2026? I'm still trying to figure out what the resigning of Garoppolo means for their QB draft plans.

Until they sign KW to an extension, I believe RB is in play, at least in the later rounds. Sure, they want to sign him to a discount, like they indicated they wanted to sign Jones last year, but I'm not sure the chances of that happening are high.

For the early picks, I think CB, TE, OT, and possibly WR are the most likely.

I think the math is changing on QB swings in general, look at AZ with Rosen and tiny-tike and ATL last year. Teams seem to be okay with multiple bites at the apple now.

That being said, context matters, it's a bad draft for QBs. Not even sure it's worth taking a swing at a day 3 guy. Can't rule it out. I'd say the resigning of Jimmy doesn't swing things much, in general.

I think there's a world where Shedeur is there at 26 and they pick him. (1 in 15 chance, maybe?) I don't love him as a prospect, I don't want us to pick him but I can see the plan (think you can handle the personality stuff, he's got a high floor and you bet the CO offense actually hid how high his ceiling can go).

I just don't see the plan with any of these other QBs in the draft. Maybe Shough.

Yeah, I can see multiple swings too if it's a day 3 pick, I'm not so sure if they use a day 2 pick. IMO, there's a decent chance they don't draft a QB at all this year.

With Sneads ability to draft CBs late, sounds like they might just draft a RT in Rd 1. By doing this they protect Stafford and set up the OL for next starting QB post HOFer Stafford. Just something I think is a strong possibility.

I think we need a legit #1 CB on a 5 yr rookie contract.

Hope one's there in the 1st for us! I don't watch much CB tape cause it's hard for me to know the D and assignment or even what the right technique is for these guys so a little out of the know on the guys avail in the 1st.

Revel would be my top choice if we’re going cornerback in the first round.

I like where our offense is at right now. Same line returning. Good for continuity. Added depth in the middle with the Shelton signing. Adams still has something in the tank. And he should get plenty of opportunities for single coverage with the attention on Puka. Kyren's a top tier back. If Higbee comes back healthy he's a solid tight end. I just think we need more depth there. I don't see him playing all 17 games.

Defense sure stepped up down the stretch. 4 of the last 6 games they gave up less than 10 points. The Eagles game they gave up 28. Compared to the rest of the playoffs that wasn't terrible. Eagles scored 117 points in the other 3 games. 95 in the final two. The 30 Seattle scored on us was pretty much preseason vanilla game plan.

If the defense can pick up where they left off all they have to be is middle of the road to win 12 or 13 games with that offense. If they can improve the back end I can see them being a top ten defense.

There is some awesome ones. I'll be hoping Will Johnson or Jahdae Barron somehow fall to us. Revel and Morrison are also intriguing prospects but coming off injuries. Emmanwori could play CB (he's a freak of a nature). Azareye' Thomas and Hairston have caught some steam and may end up in the 1st.

No Tight End or Receiver? Adams deal is two years but they could move on in one year. Tutu got a one year deal.

BTW Snead did say they were going to try to resign Witherspoon. I hope they do.

Warren Sharpe likes AZ Thomas at the end of round 1, I put a lot of stock in him.

Here's a question you might be able to answer for me....

With zone coverage becoming more and more the trend, do we want to spend hight draft pick capital on a CB, vs taking a very good OT to replace Big Rob and possibly start at LT and move AJ Jackson over to RT?? Things I openly wonder about.
Now don't get me wrong I would be happy w/ a CB in Rd 1, but Snead is so good mining CBs in mid to late picks
Finding starting OTs on day 2/3 is a lower % chance of hitting. I mean AJ Jackson was winning the lotto but that won't happen again imho

What says you???
