I feel a bit better about this pick now. It is not what I would do with the 13 pick because I feel like a player at 13 could possibly help with an immediate Super Bowl run.
I'm still disappointed tbh. I just don't believe in him like the Rams do, but I get why they took him and I'm gonna root for the kid.

Also 15's a slow number.

But for long term I do like the player and his potential. Quick feet, quick processor and could excel in the Mcvay system. He’s also a Football Junkie that could be even better then what he showed in 1 year at Alabama.

Could be a bust but worth a flyer due to being a late round pick that got converted to a 13 pick. Not alot of capital spent.

I see Mcvay really using his running ability. Something Stafford doesn’t posses.
Yeah, at worst, if he busts (he's NOT gonna bust) we spent simply the 13th pick on him. Not sone insane trade-up like 49ers did for Lance, Panthers did for Young, WE did for Goff. There’s absolutely nothing to indicate or quantify that a 13th pick spent elsewhere, WINS us the Super Bowl.

Also, he's NOT gonna bust

I'm a fan. To me his positives far outweigh the negatives.
Football junkie. Dedicated. Tough. Smart. Training under McVay and Stafford.
You never know but I feel very good about him.
I'm counting on us not drafting this high for quite a while. ;)

I like the Optimism but first round QB busts are very common. Not saying Simpson will, and I do like his skillset. It's just a fact of first round NFL QBs. Most are projecting a mid-level starter. If he reaches Mayfield, Love level it would be worth the pick, especially if we get a few cheap years out of him.

A 13th pick could have a huge impact. See Emmanwori last year. Picked at 35th. His impact was critical to their Super Bowl Run. Just to mention one recent rookie.

Trent McDuffie could have a huge impact. Pick 13 from Atlanta was a BONUS pick good teams like us rarely get. With a 38 year-old, year-ro-year Quarterback with back issues, you take a Quarterback IF there is one.

Ty Simpson...IS one.

I do love the Mcduffie and Watson deals.Massively improved our biggest weakness, with proven players.

Now how many 1st round QBs get to sit and learn under a HOF coach and HOF Qb?

First round busts are common at just about every position. Especially in weaker blue chip draft classes.

But in regards to QBs, they are usually:
1) Selected by bad teams and thrust into the starting lineup way before they are ready,
2) Experience 1 or more OC changes early due to coaching turnover,
3) Coming from college offenses that had very little in the way of NFL concepts,
4) Drafted moreso for their athletic ability than their mental processing,
5) And/or have maturity issues.

Just run down the list of them and my guess is that you'll find that most, if not all, experienced at the very least 1 or 2 of the 5 listed issues.

The 13th pick could have a huge immediate impact. That player could have also have a minimal impact or be a bust. No one knows but the assumption always appears to be the former for some reason.

Emmanwori was critical to the Seahawks Super Bowl run. But, no one seems to point how the other players selected ahead of him that didn't have as much of an impact on their teams.

IMO, if the team were All-In or Bust, that 13th pick should have been traded for a veteran. That makes more sense to me than hoping for an immediate impact from a rookie which is less likely in comparison.

Actually, you make a valid consideration there.
I just like this part of the movie .... among others.

I stand firmly on the cautiously hopeful platform. I get it, he is really smart and seems to process what he sees quick enough. His arm is NFL level, can throw on the run and can escape the pocket. Everything you could want in a QB it seems, but his size is on the smaller end of the scale. Many are good enough at his size but it is something he will have to overcome. But here is the thing, the NFL is really hard and he really will be tested. Nobody can predict how he will do or what kind of heart he has. How tough he is when the shit hits the fan. Can he make the plays at the end of the biggest game which is what we want of our QB. Not just knows what to do, but gets it done.

Our team seems to think he has the tools to grow into what we need so I am cautiously hopeful for the future of our team. Disappointed that we didn't help the team for this year. In fact made it weaker by not having a proven back up for Stafford. If this blows this window sky high, no amount of future window will make this move worth it.

Maybe not, Simpson might offer far more upside then any backup currently on the market, especially with Garoppolo's retirement talk.

You have to factor that in as I believe when Cousins signed with the Raiders in addition to Garoppolo's retirement conversation, now the Rams understanding they loved Simpson, felt it was necessary to make the selection.

Now if Stafford goes down and Simpson comes in and is able to guide the Rams to a couple of victories, then obviously the dead horse is buried for that time frame and maybe you cannot dig it back up to kick it around anymore.

anything is possible, but by all projections, he needs a clip board year. While he is familiar with this type of offense, he is not even close to reading NFL Defenses. Not having Jimmy if Stafford goes down for a couple of games will be a lot to overcome.

I concur I liked Garoppolo too, however, that did not appear to be an option, or maybe it was, regardless with OTA's, training camp and preseason, in addition to Simpson's elite football IQ, I believe if called upon, he will be ready and then we can judge from there.

Disappointed that we didn't help the team for this year? Doesn't McDuffie apply to that?

In fact made it weaker by not having a proven backup for Stafford? Wait, you actually think the 2026 Rams are weaker than the 2025 Rams?
