In the late 60's and early 70's growing up in Fresno I lived in 49er/Raider territory. My father would buy the LA Times and bring it home every day after work. He loved reading the paper. He'd leave for work two hours early and read the times at a coffee shop for an hour and a half. The Fresno Bee didn't have near as much. Thats where I got my Rams news.

On Sundays we'd only get the 49er and Raider games on TV. So I would turn that 30 foot antenna to get the Bakersfield station which aired the Rams games. It was snowy but the volume was good and you could still watch and keep up. Color didn't matter because our TV was black and white. When I was young I used to think the Rams colors were black and white. :ROFLMAO:

Are you still in contact with Wayne or sister Terry ? I met with Jim-Doug's wife Lorraine a couple years ago.

Yes, the original picture did indeed hang in their home. I loved that home of theirs in Shadow Hills, and was kind of in lust with Terry as well, ... of course most guys were.

Small world !

We'd get highlights on a Tuesday evening on ABC TV down here ...

We'd probably get one full Rams game per year and highlights from other weeks.

In 1994 I remember watching the Raiders v Rams from Anaheim ... Chandler ( until he got benched for Miller) v Hostetler and we lost 20-17.

I'd get Pro Football digest every month for more detailed info ... still massively grateful to Don Lane for providing NFL content when there was none prior to pay TV and was saddened when he passed away a few years back.

In 1957 I delivered the Herald Examiner, read that and the Times, and all papers of the day
and listened to whoever was broadcasting The Rams on Radio, Dick Enberg was best
train
Yep! Back-in-the-days, before Personal Computers The Old L.A. Herald-Examiner was THE place to get your best Sports News with writers Like:
* Jim Murray
* Mel Durslag
* Doug Krikorian
* Alan Malamud
Not to mention the Best writer on the Entertainment Beat James Bacon!

After the Examiner went "Belly-Up", It took me a while to get use to reading the Times! I hate the Rag to this day!!
Then I Found " My New BIBLE" The Pro-Football Weekly!! When it was in print it was the BEST source around bar-none!! I helped run a Fantasy League at work back then and you couldn't beat it for Stats - Team Reports - and the writers where the Best too!!
Now I have ROD!!(y);):yay::yess:

Prime, were did you find this Old Photo of me delivering the Rams News!!?!

Pro Football Weekly. The weekly magazine that came every Thursday in the mail back when the internet was on paper.
Freaking youngbloods,

Pro Football Weekly. Me too. The Preseason Magazines. Sports Illustrated was junk for Rams. ESPN was awful too. HBO Inside the NFL and Sunday or Monday Night Football clips. I recall 1999 and you heard almost nothing until later on in the season nationally.

I became a fan of them in 1995 when they moved to STL. Ironically at the same time they moved there, I was on my way to California for boot camp. While there, I would always get USA Today on Sundays and look for any Rams articles/scores, since I was there during the season. The Rams had started out 5-1 and my confidence was booming, so I made a $40 bet (to be paid at the end of boot camp) with another recruit saying the Rams would beat the Whiners. Of course the Rams ended up getting smoked and I can be blamed for the downfall of the inaugural season in STL as they were awful from that game on. Ha ha

Yeah, that was my second choice. Smoke signals was another possibility. :)

While living in San Jose, CA during the 60's through the early 90's I'd get Rams news from my co-workers who were mostly Niners fans. :poop: which was mostly heckling. The 80's with Bill Walsh and Joe Montana was the worst. :baghead:

There was one guy, a Mexican, who would call me up after a Ram's loss and with his thick Spanish accent would say something like, "Hey, how about them Rammies?" and then hang up. :fuelfire:

Yeah, the 80's did suck for Rams fans in the Bay Area. It was all crickets in the 70's...

I'm surprised the Mexican guy didn't have an unfortunate accident! :sneaky::rolllaugh:
