Well the yards per play is more telling, but when a defense keeps getting put on the field and often short fields they will have more plays and will go ve up points as that formula just wears a defense down.

So at the very least they were not terrible as some have suggested.
But but but the Rams with the crappy Goff scored over 40 points against them that year and Goff had over 500 yards against them and Tampa only had 1 turnover in that game

Maybe

But YPP could be just that the team played soft and kept the plays in front of them instead of allowing any deep passes.

Have to look at the entire thing.

Their defense wasn't terrible but it wasn't good either that year.

Somewhere in the middle yet last year I consider them to have been top 3 defenses the last half of the year once they got their very good defensive player back after the Ram game.

One play in particular did highlight the vast differences between the two former No. 1 overall picks.

During an 11-on-11 period, Goff rolled to his left off of a play fake, forcing him to make a decision between two wideouts.

Both decisions required Goff to throw across his body. Wideouts Kalif Raymond and Breshad Perriman both came open, but Perriman had beaten his defender and was running deep up the sideline.

Raymond was approximately 10 yards up field and heading towards the sideline. Goff made the decision to throw it to Raymond, but ended up throwing it behind him for an incompletion.

According to The Athletic, "Stafford throws the deep ball there probably 99 times out of 100. Goff targeted Raymond instead, then threw it behind him a bit so it fell incomplete. There’s just a difference in mentality, and that’s assuming Goff even has the arm strength to hit a receiver in stride 50-plus yards deep while going against the grain."

No doubt, Stafford would have launched it. It was his bread and butter, but ultimately, also his biggest downfall, due to turnovers at inopportune times.

Even though Lions head coach Dan Campbell and Goff have stated that he enjoys throwing it downfield, the 26-year-old quarterback will likely play it safe, especially when the safer option underneath is available.

Ooof. Dude cant even get the underneath stuff.

Interesting take on MS's TOs. Even though JG has the 2nd most as already mentioned here.

Give me the gunslinger over playing it safe with no results.

Let's just post the negative shall we

During seven-on-seven drills, Goff highlighted what he can bring to the table, as he zipped the ball to rookie wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown, after moving off the single-high safety in coverage.

Let's just move on please

Well the comparison and purpose of the article was on that particular roll out play. What Jared did and what MS would do based on his former tenure there in actual game play (11 v 11). Also bolded the comment on MS' TOs which is an interesting take.

Also, I would expect a QB going into his 6th year to hit on 7 v 7 drills. So its not like that's some ground breaking progress.

Really, man? Stafford threw a pick six the other day. It's camp. Both guys are adjusting to new schemes and receivers. No reason to do this stuff. It's a non-issue. As for the gunslinger point, that's your right. There are merits to it. But I can't help but remember the way guys like Brady, Brees, and Peyton Manning dissected defenses for years by killing them with the underneath, safe throws.
