They are sort of stuck with him and can't trade him.... I don't think they can really trade Dotson either and Limmer is proving more than capable at the center position... dare I say consider trading Avila?

WOW - WTF dude ??? What happens to your boy Alaric Jackson ???

I understand the BITTERNESS,but where is the comparison ???

Totally different, plus The Rams are in an entirely different position with Alaric than Noteboom!!

I’ve said all along this Free Agent signing made NO SENSE!!! Steve Avila & A.Jackson closed out 2023 so well. It just Added to The MISTAKE of Tutu Atwell pick.I wanted to move (trade)up for L.Dickerson, but Creed Humpries was still we saw once again(Super bowl) that Center was a need. There were THREE other Center/Guards in that Draft as well.

Shelton & Alaric both should have been resigned.Shelton the season before when he became a FA !!

PISSES ME OFF - The way The RAMS run things with their OWN Free Agents !!!! That’s seriously WTF !!!

IMO - a player who is a low round pick or under drafted & earns the right to become a Free Agent. They should get rewarded.

A 1st rd. pick like Gurley or Goff should have had to play out that 5th year without concerns ??

There’s a lot there, but Dotson resigning might have been or played apart of it all ??

Beaux Limmer though really makes this Free Agent signing standout.Talk about an AWESOME Draft Pick !! That’s what’s missing in this Johan Jackson SIGNING!!!

Yes - Patrick Queen would have been nice. Was NEVER HAPPY with Brian Allen draft pick & Resigning!!! WTF !!!
—Noteboom has always been SOFT & INJURED!!! We knew he couldn’t play GUARD!!!

The RAMS have NEVER addressed The O’Line under Sean Mcvay!! Great FA signing by The Rams Whitworth was it !!! Yes & WTF cutting John Sullivan?? Go ask Whitworth his thoughts on that ??
-/This Kupp thing is Next Level ??

Talk about Pillars under Mcvay ??
Even Shelton was one of those guys. To think Noteboom was a basically a broken part of the foundation, but Alaric was a beautiful addition who should have gotten PAID. Freaking UDRFA !! Look at Shelton,Hoecht ??? Go back & look at Littleton ???

Mcvay & The Rams need to take care of there own. What kind of world do we live in??? Pay The Top percent & F’ The Players who have Earned it !! Then get rid of your foundation like Cooper Kupp.

—Stafford ??? Trade him !!

RIDICULOUSNESS - get a show !! That’s funny !! The problem is The Rams don’t scout there own players or believe in them.

Yes from post before - cutting Sullivan was the start. Not building upfront through The Draft was another.Les Snead has worked miracles though. It’s The Coaching Staff or DEMOFF & his contract guy who F’S Things UP ???

What happens at RT & LT ??? How does that get built up ??? That is the problem??? Maybe The Rams TRADE Steve Avila ??? Move up in The Draft ???

Trade Mattew Stafford?? The Rams need a LT !! The Rams need to move on from Big Rob as well.He has been a Ram longer than Sean Mcvay when Fisher was at UCI & Hardknocks with the move from St. Louis.

I think you have to keep him unless some team blows you away with an amazing trade offer. He's potentially a great depth piece and we seriously don't know all that was going on with his health last season.

Last year the plan was Avila at center and Jackson at LG. But for whatever reason a week before game one they switched Avila back to LG and Jackson to center. Perhaps they should start camp with Jackson and Limmer competing at center. Whoever wins the job the other guy can be the backup. Jackson can play both guard and center. If there is an injury in the middle of the line he'd be a capable backup. What they need to do is focus on getting Alaric Jackson signed. They don't have a viable in house option for left tackle if they don't sign him. McClendon is not the answer.

If you are the first man off the bench at RG and C (and maybe LG too? Can he play LG?), the reality is, if you stay healthy, you will likely play ~50% of the season. Possibly even the vast majority of the season, given how prevalent injuries in the trenches are.

Jonah Jackson is very overpaid for his role, but does still provide high quality depth, which is still important.

If we can find a trade partner, pull the trigger. You cannot pay that much for players that are not clear starters.

If nobody wants to take him via trade, let him compete. See if he wins a starting job. The best players should start. Last year, he was injured in training camp, and then when we tried to work him into the starting lineup mid-season, the continuity wasn't there and the o-line struggled. A healthy off-season and training camp might see him starting on this o-line after all. If he doesn't win a starting job, keep him as quality depth for this upcoming season, as there a good chance he ends up starting regardless due to injury. The cap savings by cutting him are not significant. Then look to move on next off-season if he is not starting.

Cut him. He's way to expensive to be a depth piece, he's not good at center, and he's injury prone.

Huh?

Even in Detroit, Jackson hasn’t played at the same level Dotson has shown for us.

As for the question, I would keep Jackson as our fourth-choice IOL (a high quality one, at that), unless a desperate team made a very generous trade offer.

Jj is rated far higher than Dotson.

Plus in both our playoff exits Dotson fucked up.

Did you not read anything in this thread? We can't cut him, the dead money would be insane and we would be no better off doing so.

We could also use the depth. He can play both guard positions very well. Look at his tape VS seattle he was a stud and all of his tape playing w/ the lions. Definitely one of the better guards in the league.

I think he'll give Steve Avila a run for his money and it wouldn't surprise me if he beats him out.

Count me in the camp as saying Limmer was good but not great. I'm not 100% sure that a healthy Jackson with practice time at Center can't beat him out.

Let them compete, best man wins. Worse case scenario we have stellar depth on interior oline.

Now this is an out of the box idea...one of which at first glance I don't like. But...

What do you suppose they could get for Avila? If they were flipping him by getting more than they spent on him -i.e. better than a high 2nd - then I'd entertain it.

Dotson got a false start call on the same drive.
Dotson was a stud in '23 and got a well deserved contract
I think he had a lot on his plate in '24, swapping out C & RT didnt provide a lot of stability. Either way, Dotson is a solid RG for us

I get it. But if an opponent needs a play Dotson seems to oblige.

I dont agree, he played great and was an anchor for most of the season. Yes, he made a bone headed play that cost the Rams on that series, but it's one play. And again, he was playing next to a rookie center against an incredibly dominant D-line. Throw a vet at C and a solid RT where Dotson can do his thing and he's a stud

I don't pretend to know all that Snead and Coach Mac do about their free agent strategies, but I do know that Avila played center a decent bit in college so there's that.
Plus I have to believe that the Rams braintrust ran this move by Avila and got the "thumbs up" from him.

Factor in, also, that there's usually more guards than centers available on the open market. So taking that into consideration this move makes a bit more sense then....

I get those tjings for sure but Avila had already showed to be a good guard. Didn't see why they needed to move him. And that draft had a lot of centers in it.

When have the rams shown they care about dead cap? If he was better tha Avila he would've started over him...he didn't. Keeping him as depth sets a bad precedent for the entire team. If you're not performing up to your contract it's time to go. If that wasn't the case, kupp wouldn't be getting shopped.

He should be given a chance to compete for the starting center position. There's a decent chance he beats Limmer out for that at which point he won't just be depth.
