Yeah last night I thought the first two drives were just Stafford being off. But then the third drive McVay goes negative run, penalty, negative run, draw on third and 19. Like that drive had ZERO shot.
Yeah, he has to stop calling the negative yard run plays and stick to the positive yard run plays.

Kind of good news bad news. A few weeks ago they needed a lot of points to win. They scored 44. The following week they needed a good defensive game. They gave up 6. The next week they needed another good defensive game. They gave up 9. Yesterday they gave up 9.

The defense was the biggest concern. The offense was expected to be good. They haven't been good 3 games in a row. Yet, they won all 3. I suppose that is the sign of a battle tested team. Finding a way to win. But I will feel a lot better if the offense can get back on track.

Our first round opponent will be one of 3 teams. Minnesota, Green Bay or Detroit. They can all put up points. We will need the offense to return to form if we wanna see them advance.
Or Washington as it stands right now

Running plays on 2nd and longer than 10 should warrant prison time.
You need to watch more football then.

Running the ball on 2nd & 12 could get you back to 3rd and manageable, especially with a weak RT who us getting beat. Teams do that all the time.

The key is to have the OL execute blocks to get back 5 or 6 yards in that situation.

Nothing is wrong with the Offense as long as they are winning, defenses tend to tighten up this time in the season. Good teams overcome and win just like the Rams are doing.

Run it 3 times for three yards each and it's 4th and 1. You have to punt there from your own side of the field.
True. But you don't give up on the run game after three runs.

They were already punting with passes. How does it hurt to continue establishing the run game?

That’s not what the numbers show. It’s the same thing with first down. You put your QB in more advantageous situations when you keep him out of obvious passing downs. Throwing on first and 10 and 2nd and long is better than throwing on third and long. That safe conservative shit is for true freshman quarterbacks making their first start on the road in college. Not for NFL studs.

Its a combo of things really. Bad weather, Oline injury, Cards game plan to run blitz put us in 3rd and longs.

Stafford has always, always been inconsistent with his accuracy. It's been there his whole career and even our Super Bowl season when he was falling apart down the stretch in the regular season with the pick 6 records before his amazing playoff run, in which he was lights out.

Stafford can make amazing throws and plays that others can't and he can also dial it in during crunch time, but he also has streaks of bad play. So you take the bad with the good.

Kupp has clearly lost a step as well. You can see this in his lack of separation and also in his ability to make guys miss in the open field.

I will also say this about Oline, it only takes one Oline starter injury to compromise the pass protection. When this happens QB's get very uncomfortable and rush throws. Their internal clock speeds up out of self preservation and to try to avoid sack/fumbles etc.

I would not be surprised at all though if Stafford looks amazing in the playoffs, hes done it before and has a history of dialing it in under extreme pressure.

Kind of hoping McVay doesn't rest the Offense in week 18. They need the work.

Seattle will be playing with a big chip on their shoulders... would you really risk Stafford,Kupp, KDub or Puka to an injury from a cheap shot?

I get it. Yeah, we’re a 10 win team and I should be happy for that. The defense is what it is. We were one play away from an embarrassing loss to an average Cardinal team. My biggest concern is the offense. What in the heck is going on? Stafford was off from the start. Again. McVay’s playing calling almost doomed us. Noteboom was Noteboom. I hate to say it but this team is one and done in the playoffs if we don’t fix the offense.
There was a point last night where we had second and two from close to midfield and, instead of running twice and keeping the drive alive, McVay being McVay, called a pass. Noteboom gets a holding call, Puka gets us close to a first, and we run a two yard route on third and three. WTF? The chemistry is totally absent between Stafford and Kupp, any creativity McVay once had is long gone, and our red zone woes continue. Go back and watch the throw to Puka in the end zone on the right side. I think it was second down. Kupp was open underneath for the TD but Stafford just didn’t look his way. Matthew didn’t have that confident, killer look in his eyes last night. He looked pressured and not just because our OL was terrible. Something is going on with him. He has no chemistry with anyone but Puka. And where has Robinson been the last three weeks? Thanks for letting me vent.
Long read, almost fell asleep until Notebomb. He was fucking horrible. It he has to play 1 snap in the post season we are fucked. Thank God he's almost gone.

I don't think Stafford is comfortable player under center which is leading him to be more inconsistent. On the other end we have no choice because we have kyren Williams and to make use of all the weapons on the offense mcvay has no choice but to stock with it. Stafford just needs to adjust which is way easier said then done.

The little mistakes can add up especially with limited possessions:

  • Stafford has a few errant passes
  • Kupp drops a 3rd down pass that he almost always makes.
  • They have a few nice plays that get called back by holding.
  • An untimely false start.
  • Kyren slips on his cut and does not make extra yardage
  • A TE misses a block
Individually some may not be egregious, but they add up and some of those mistakes were absolute drive killers, especially plays like Kupp’s drop on third down. Holding penalties are often drive killers.

The Rams must be better on offense. The inconsistency is worrying. When they are at their best, we get the Buffalo game, but that game was optimal because of some insane catches by Puka and the defensive match-up played into McVay's Scheme.

Since Buffalo, we clearly have not seen them at their best. They either get their mojo back on offense or the Rams will be one and done in the playoffs. I seriously doubt the Rams D can hold any of these playoff teams to under 10 points, probably not even under 20 points.

I’m ecstatic that our Rams made the playoffs, but I do not think this team can make a deep run this year. I hope I’m wrong.

The offense is chasing the sticks again on 2nd down. I’d start there if evaluating the offense.

I think McVay is playing possum with this offense. He figured he could beat SF, NY & AZ with a simplistic run-heavy offense. The defense has been playing well enough for him to grind out wins without putting anything on tape. He probably kept some stuff in reserve for each of those games that could be released in case of trouble.

I think this may be the problem with Stafford. McVay usually schemes several receivers wide open but he hasn't been doing that recently and Stafford has had to hold the ball, getting whatever he can.
