It's a combination of problems.
1. The OL can't stay healthy, so it's not gelling the way it could. We have good individual pieces. If we could get the starting five on the field together consistently, it would be a good unit. But we have been unable to do that. While we have good depth on the IOL, our backup OTs have sucked arse. We need Havenstein and AJ to stay healthy. Or we need to consider playing Jonah Jackson at RT if Havenstein can't stay on the field. It's hard to believe he's worse than McClendon and Noteboom, given their play this year.
2. Cooper Kupp is not playing well. I don't know why. Might just be age and wear and tear. But he's not separating like he would in the past. He's basically a zone beater at this point. But he's such a valuable blocker that it makes it difficult to take him off the field. And it's hard to shake the belief that he can find himself again. I think McVay needs to get Tutu and Whittington more snaps.
3. Stafford has not played well since Buffalo. I recall him dinging his throwing hand up recently. I have to wonder if that's playing a role. He's not been nearly as accurate over the past few weeks, and his decision making has been quite erratic. We need Stafford's A game. This offense relies so much on precision.
4. We lack speed, outside of Tutu. Defenses aren't afraid of us beating them deep.
5. Our TEs are JAGs, outside of Higbee. We need Higbee to be a full-time player again. I don't know when he'll be physically ready for that. The other TEs just aren't threats in the passing game. And McVay, for whatever reason, fell out of love with Parkinson.t
6. McVay needs to make some adjustments to deal with these realities. The OL is what it is. We can only do so much to mask that challenge. We need those guys to get healthy. But he needs to do some thinking on how we can better integrate Tutu and Whittington without tipping our hand.
