“Why y’all keep talkin’ ‘bout Kevin Greene?
Well, with all due respect to the great Deacon Jones, all this team needs is a monster 3-4 outside linebacker.

Kevin Greene made 46 sacks in three seasons at that position for the Rams.

( and yes I did have to refer to Wikipedia to get the exact number down but I knew the number was crazy high )

Can you imagine the pressure that could be put on the quarterback with our defensive line and then bringing Kevin Greene up as a pass rusher?

Quarterbacks would be lucky to get a hundred yard game out of us.

Just giving you guys a little crap. I loved KG. He was a monster. And the fact that he played on a 3-4 makes sense.

I just see either Deacon or Jack and think, hmm, I think they could learn how to get to the quarterback without their hand in the dirt. Greene would be awesome too.

Some good answers here. I like either Hacksaw or Fletcher. Aeneus Williams. Good thread.

The more I thought about this the harder it was to come up with someone to replace our current starters but based on big Whit's age I'll go with Orlando,(Mr Pace).

And I forgot to mention that Kevin Greene was an excellent run-stopper as well.
I actually remember a couple of running backs that looked like they were scared of KG and decided to run out of bounds before having to face him straight up.

Pretty smart of the running backs really.

My original thought was Orlando Pace...but yeah, Slater would be a good choice, too.
I'm surprised about all the love for Greene. Perhaps I've underestimated him.
I admit, I STILL miss London Fletcher to this day.

Heck with these defensive players. I choose Marshall Faulk. A 2 back backfield with him and Gurley would make other teams' defensive coordinators cry.

I’m crying right now. Joy, just thinking about that possibility. Wish I had one of them cryin’ Emojis...

:rant:Hey. Ants. How’d you get that cryin’ Emoji?! (n) It’s not part of the stock ROD emoji selection......you rat bastard. :sneaky:

First row, fifth face from the left.
...Oh yeah. Thanks @1maGoh  :yess:

Hey. What if we had Tony Horne returning kicks? Just saying. I saw the Atlanta playoff game on NFL Network yesterday. I just hope Pharoh doesn't have the Tavon yips.

Vince Ferragamo or Jim Everett!

The obvious answers are Greene.... just a perfect fit for where this D is a bit suspect. Then Warner, just because Goff is still young.

A few others including some role player types that would fit as well

TE - Pete Holihan - perfect TE for Goff
ILB - London Fletcher - great ILB and area of need
CB - Jerry Gray - not a need, but just loved Gray as a player
OG - Mack/Harrah/Newberry - take you pick

We want an edge rusher? Deacon.
Again, with all due respect to the great Deacon Jones, he was a strict 4-3 defensive end.

Yes, he was a great pass rusher, probably the best, but we have three good starters on the DL and our only real need is outside linebacker.

I still have to say that our best 3-4 outside linebacker of all time in rushing the passer and stopping the run was KG.

If 290 lbs. Mario Williams can play as an outside linebacker in Wade Phillips' 3-4, so too can Deacon.
