i guess i needed a little humor after mondays game...

i didn't even want to come online and read the critique threads...

i hate to say it , but it reminded me of the wandering in the desert years... , the ones where it's the third quarter, and you're thinking.. "well let's see, if we score on this drive , and get 2 stops, we can get it down to one score and we have a chance.....

then 2 penalties, followed by a 3 and out... sigh...

that was a long decade that finally ended with the mcvay hiring...

let's hope the bye ends with a ram team on a mission... it can, and i believe it will...

go rams

Look. I’m 73. Still working, doing OK.
But would not be without my associate. 27 year old studess.
That a word?
Point be being, it’s a great symbiosis.
McVay needs some old guys.
He’s seriously brilliant, but needs some wisdom.
He doesn’t have it and that is not his fault- he’s just too fucking young.
When he lost Olsen and Wade, things went to shit, and they will continue to do so until he gets someone to control him.

IMO.

It's the snark that gets me the most. Give it a damn rest. Especially the ones bumping threads BEFORE the game that had a positive topic, only to respond with more snark to stir more shit in the pot AFTER the loss. Drives me fucking insane.

I’m old enough to think you may have a valid point...

Seriously, McVay could benefit from another big picture guy of any age who could suggest alternative game plans/strategies.

Or he could look at Shanahan, a formerly pass happy coach in Atlanta who just put on a master class in taking control of a game with running the ball, short passes, and time of possession.

I agree that we're still in a very good position and the philosophy of moving on from this frustration to what should be a huge game in green bay but I read this interesting quote that has me concerned about how we may be defending devonte adams.

Sean McVay spoke to reporters Tuesday and explained why the Rams didn’t have Ramsey exclusively covering Samuel or Kittle, opting to use him in a variety of ways.

“I think there’s merit to that,” McVay said of having Ramsey on the opponent’s top receiver. “I think in order to be able to do that with Jalen, you still have to have some other complementary pieces that can go play elsewhere. (Dont’e Deayon) has been a guy that’s done an outstanding job being able to allow Jalen to have that flexibility these last couple of weeks. It was Darious (Williams) earlier in the season, it’s been Double D as of late. So, there’s a lot of layers to it, but there are certainly some instances – and we had that in the second half where he was matched up on some of those guys, but whether it’s Deebo, Kittle even (Brandon) Aiyuk made a couple plays. Definitely want to try to continue to find ways to have Jalen at the point of attack or where you envision offenses want their point of attack player to be, but there are a lot of layers to it.”

If they were to keep him on one side of the field, McVay says the opponent can just target the other side and avoid throwing Ramsey’s way.

“This is all really geared towards the flexibility that Jalen enables us to operate with the different positions he can play, it’s how many different ways can we give him play opportunities?” McVay said. “And those ‘make a difference plays.’ Whereas if you’re exclusively just playing corner on one side or the other, you can basically say, ‘Okay, he’s going to shut out, or we’re going to just be able to stay away from that.’ But he’s not going to be able to impact and influence the game, even though in some ways it kind of does, but he’s just such a physical, tough player that you want to try to have him around the ball as much as possible, take advantage of all the versatility he provides. And I think on a week-to-week basis, that’s predicated on the opponent, how we want to utilize our personnel groupings.”

I think there's merit in that? Okay he's going to shut out or we're going to be able to stay away from that but he's not going to impact the game and influence the game, even though in some ways it does??

These 2 statements confuse me. The part I don't understand is what flexibility is he talking about? The flexibility to have ramsey sometimes cover the other teams 3rd receiver? It's been my understanding that a corner who can take away one side of the field, or even better, the opponents top wideout, is a DC's dream. Sean poo-poos the scenario saying the qb will just throw to where ramsey isn't. Yeah, but he can still do that when he's covering your 3rd receiver only now he can target his best receiver. Which they did with much success. Flexibility concept debunked.

I'm saying right now, they better knock this shit off against green bay because if he's not one on one with adams all night, and adams has a even a good game, I'm gonna be pissed.

ROD began with and has an ongoing tradition of outstanding posting that is respectful of the team, the game, players and coaches, and all other posters.

As someone who grew up in St Louis, I like to think this is related to the attitudes of the great fans of the Rams and Cardinals from the midwest and the longtime fans of the old Los Angeles Rams. And I'm equally sure Dodger and Laker fans have the same approach. A bit of old school.

At it's best this is a great fan site with many knowledgeable posters and more than a few true football gurus. The exchange of views can be a high level with great points made all around despite differences of opinion. And other serious people follow this site for both its views what the team should be doing and as a reflection of the Rams' fanbase.

It's sometimes hard to maintain our balance at a point in time when frustration and anger seem to be our national pastimes. And then the team loses a couple of games. Ouch!!

But imo ROD can and will continue to be a great, positive site for Rams fans everywhere.
Holy crap man, some of your posts ooze overwhelming positive vibes... I'm seriously envious, cuz I tend to be slightly pessimistic.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but IMHO this site is less about "the attitudes of the great fans of the Rams" and more about the consistent hard work of the moderators. A poorly moderated site can turn into the chaotic clusterf*ck we saw on the old PD board. But a well-moderated site can weed out (most) of the bad apples, and also serve as a constant reminder to the rest of us to rein in our worst inclinations.

Regardless, cheers to your positive posts and keep 'em coming.

I still haven't recovered from my speech impediment, or the twitching, the convulsions, non stop runny nose and sharts because of this 9ers game. But, when I do, watch out!

I give the moderators full credit.

Sometimes restating something serves as a reminder. Anyway I believe it's possible for people to be both passionate but also polite, respectful, reasonably accurate and serious. ROD has a good foundation for that. I would like to see more of it, here and elsewhere.

It's all perspective.
I suppose I'm "fortunate" to live in Jets & Giants territory.
Both franchises have been a disaster for a while now and frankly arent even close to being on track. That constant reminder of the near 2 decades of awful Rams football is always present so it's easy to take a step back and appreciate where we are now.

Full credit may be a bit much but the sentiment is appreciated. We are really just a group of long time fans that got asked to help out with a site we were already addicted to and believed in what it has always stood for.

We tend to lean on all our members to help keep it on track.

I would give more credit personally to @-X- , @CGI_Ram , and @Selassie I - our founder and current Admins. They help to keep us grounded too while working hard to keep ROD up to date and flowing.

This site is a fair amount of work, and I personally thank @CGI_Ram for most of the heavy lifting these days.

But it's the members that make or break a site like this.

So don't fuck it up.

I haven’t been around all week so not sure if this has been asked.

Anyone got Fisher’s number? His teams knew how to handle the niners. Just saying....:explode1:

I get the angst from the last couple weeks.

There is reason to vent. No doubt about it.

But let's all keep in mind why we're here....to support our team and bullshit with each other like friends at a bar.

This board was started by @-X- to be the antithesis to the Post Dispatch forum and frankly all other Rams boards.

So please do "Think before you post."

I think we all want what's best for the Rams. Some express it differently. But we are all - with the exception of a few - Rams fans. Treat each other and the team members and family with the respect you would want for yourself and your families. You don't need me telling you what that means. You already know.

Cheers and GO RAMS!!!

I'm not pissed or angry. For sure frustrated though.

I just want to see some adjustments made by both the offense and defense. Especially when they're up against tougher competition.

I think the special teams is what it is. They might improve a little but wouldn't be surprised if it's more of the same.

Even with their huge losses of Hollins, Woods, Sebastian J-Day, Mundt and a few others, they still have a top 5 talented roster in the NFL.

Maybe I'm overrating them but I have to believe they are sill at least top 10 NFL team on paper?

Well stated Stu.

The thing I have loved about ROD in the past is that the posts were respectful (even when they were heated) and they had merit. Seems the better the Rams get the less those standards hold true.

I will admit I hate the state of things when I come to the site these days, the foregoing of the vent thread and to see the top 5 threads all being fire this coach, what’s wrong with this qb etc. All one line thoughts that belong in the vent thread because they are really just complaints. Posters having the same argument in 3 different threads with no merit attacking each other personally.

If you’re going to create new threads try to put some thought into it. If we lose a game and your entire thread it is Title: “Fire Coach X”
Body: “our (O/D/ST) has sucked lately that coach has to go!”
Than your thread is pointless and will just start arguments. A single thought is not a thread. If you want to call out/question the Rams decisions fine, but do some work crunch some numbers, provide some analysis don’t just think your bitching deserves it’s own place.

You aren't lying.. ..wonder if it's because Fisher had a defense that had more of a smash mouth attitude. Seems like that style works against them maybe?

I don't how many of you guys have coached football and lost one of the most
important pieces of your offense shortly before a game, but I have, probably
a few times over the years.

The first thing it does is cuts your playbook wayy down and the plays you think
you can run, usually don't work well, because of the nervousness of the poor guy

that has had to cram the last couple of days, only ends up remembering about half
of what you think he does.
Some of the ugliest losses I have been part of are games like these.

I know that pretty much just describes the 9er game.
But I just wanted to bring it up for those who have not been put in this situation.
that it is beyond difficult to pull off, unless you have experienced, qualified depth at the position lost.
Getting up to speed without Woods is gonna take some time.

on the flip side I saw OBJ getting serious separation against coverage on several occasions
Not sure how losing Woods equates to Higbees awful play snd Jefferson, Skow and even Kupp missing catchable passes.

I’m sure Sko wants that TD pass back.I did go wizzing by though in traffic. Van Jefferson has been missing a lot of balls of late which is disappointing & the timing stinks.

Who would’ve thought Johnny Mundt meant so much ? Higbee has always had a case of the dropsies. In 2019 the hope was he finally got over it.

Everyone around here thought Jacob Harris was the answer.Hopkins has been a Major disappoint.Higbee needs to step up.it looked like all that Sports tape was off & that he might be getting closer to 100% with his arm/shoulder?

Anyways OBj I think will help the mindset. Yes - Robert Woods was definitely missed & the game plan got mixed. Stafford didn’t have old reliable & no one else stepped up.
Woods did miss a catch against Tennessee so there still is no excuse for all the drops.

We have 4-5 tough games left ahead to get try and get back on track. The Pecker(s), Crows, Cards, the Whiners and Chickens again and the Vikes too.
We will see if the guys can right the ship. I'm hoping that this is a mid season funk, and that the Rams will avoid any more injuries and start playing sharper, like they did early on.

No doubt... but Shanahan has somehow been able to outwit the Rams.

His first half drives last week were a great example of effective ball control tactics. He would have a ring if he had done that in the second half of the Super Bowl with Atlanta.
