We had one of the best kickers in the league and only managed 5 wins. Is the kicker really gonna make that much difference when you don't have a good team?
It may not have had any impact last season ... I agree.

However, I do think a top-PK vs. an average/below-average-PK usually will make a discernable difference.

Chargers are going to cut Dustin Hopkins, just claim him so he doesn't have to travel far and the kicker issue is solved.

i agree, this regime is not spending their money wisely. Hopefully, they can rebound, if not, I am seriously considering an overhaul across the board.

Perfect! ROD lamenting us not keeping Matt Gay. So an article is linked saying he cod be cut. You just can't make this shit up.
I don’t think they were implying he would be cut just teams that have two viable kickers.

The literal article is "13 kickers who could become available during roster cuts" And he's one of the 13, should be noted the Colts already waived their other kicker.

I will agree if the team is a legit contender. A bad kicker could be the difference between 12-5 or 9-8. But if you have a team that isn't good enough to win more than 5 or 6 games I don't think a top end kicker makes the difference. We saw that with our team last year.

That article was completely messed up

Colts are keeping Matt Gay - they just had a second kicker who was on the team to take the load off Matt Gay during drills and preseason games.

Stupid article.

Agreed which is why I found it funny to be linked in a post lamenting us not resigning him even if the cost should make it obvious to everybody why we didn't.

A legit point. However, there's a lot between Less than a 'legit contender' but More than a '5 or 6 win' team.

Just want every possible win; and think a close victory can help a young team; while a close defeat can hurt it.

Personally I think we could have signed him to a 5 year contract with a large signing bonus to keep the 1st year at a really low rate.

I think this is going to be one of Snead's worst mistakes.

Well, on the bright side, I think we could have keepers at P and LS. That’s a win I think.

I think if not resigning Gay to huge contract is one of the worst mistakes Snead ever made is debatable. There are plenty of good kickers that will be available for a lot less money, the Rams just need an upgrade over Brown.

If Moody gets cut by 9ers, would we consider picking him up instead? Assuming he’s healthy. If we are going with a rookie, I think I’d prefer him over Brown.
He’s not exactly nailing his kicks either. Currently injured and carrying a third round player contract. Niners are looking for a kicker as well because Moody and Gonzales are both currently injured.
