There's a couple different perspectives that matter here, those being the NFL perspective and the fan perspective.

From the NFL perspective they likely wanted to hold the player accountable and show women that they support them, and that makes me think the NFL wanted a longer suspension and probably of the one year variety. So I doubt they're happy with this judgment. I figure they'll appeal it.

From the fan perspective and particularly female fans, they probably wanted to see him held accountable and see the league support women's rights and fair treatment. Also in my own case I hate the fucking Browns and purely wanted to see them get fucked.

But here's the thing... While I agree that the NFL should push for a longer suspension the punishment here does fit the crime, to my eye at least, as far as using the facts are concerned. The Houston DA elected not to press criminal charges. The women received settlements. And comparing this to Roethlisberger's incident is apples and oranges. With Big Ben there was a question of rape, which is a whole other level compared to what I've read regarding Watson's behaviors.

This won't be popular but I have three daughters and if one of them were one of these victims I would tell them report it and let it run its course. Get a settlement and move on. That's the truth here. There's no reason to go further than that. His contract is not a slap in their faces by any means, but rather him being rewarded for being a very good QB. And I'll leave it at that. Would have enjoyed seeing him get 2 years but that would have been unfair in a lot of ways given the facts here.

Football Twitter is beside itself on this. I think it's worth noting the difference b/t what Watson did and the case of D Hop and/or Calvin Ridley as many are bringing those up.

The latter two's infraction goes to on-field performance which directly affects the integrity of the game. The NFL isn't going to, and frankly shouldn't IMO, stand for it.

While we can all agree how awful and ugly Watson's behavior is, it does not affect the integrity of the game in anywhere near the same way.

The main thing to note too is all three players had their disciplines administered strictly by the CBA which the players themselves agreed to. Watson's is still ongoing but it's been done so far exactly how the CBA dictates it should be done.

This dude is actually completely wrong. It does.
You need to read the transcripts of the judge and what she says it's so bad and basically she says that because the NFL has such low standards when it comes to woman her suspension is based on how the NFL rolls.

Taking it further when you read it it's actually sick. If you or I did what he did even once forget football and the fact that we be human garbage but we would be in jail. Just read it ...some stuff she concluded was he made them touch him exposed himself purposely ejaculated on them it's pretty messed up.

Yep.
People need to read the report to understand just how fucking awful this really is.

Sometimes, the criminal law system isn’t equipped to properly deal with situations and, on top of that, the system favors deep pockets.

Gross.

Putting aside the ugliness of the behavior, how does it potentially affect the game on the field? Do you really believe it can have the same potential affects as a player betting on games or using PED to get a competitive advantage?

Not being snarky...

The NFL has off-field conduct policies and this is about that, not about on-field issues.

I know. I was responding to an argument I'd seen not at ROD but elsewhere but that I thought was a point worth considering. And none of it was meant as a defense of his behavior.

Yeah clearly I need to read the reports. Didn't know he ejaculated on some of them.

Got it.

May I ask what the gist was? Are people trying to compare the different suspensions?

I don’t see anywhere if Watson was fined as well? Was it only 6 games?

If so that worked out pretty well for him.

Those feelers that were ‘leaked’ on the previous amount of game suspension worked well for the league I suppose.

Yup.

It’s disgusting and predatory behavior.

He doesn’t deserve to be on an NFL field, IMO. He has not taken real responsibility for his actions.

It affects the game in general as a whole. There is not really anything that can take the NFL down realistically. There are a lot female fans kids and males as well that will look at the NFL differently. It's just a black eye for the game that we all love. That's what I'm saying. When reading through the 16 pages it's pretty damning and overall pretty messed up.

As I mentioned earlier the judge in so many words said she ruled according to how the NFL typically rules thereby stating the NFL has such a low precedent when it comes to woman.

Everyone knows you can't touch the NFL it's on such a high level of fandom and they know this but it's a horrific look more than ever.

Also integrity is just one thing but on a broader spectrum woman kids and men that watch it's a horrible precedent. It's weird like if he was your neighbor granted he would be in jail but if you knew this would you even be cordial? Now you have a dude who has problems and mistreated a huge number of woman that people like children will cheer for it's like a bizzaro world.

Would it affect integrity if maybe some of his teammates would not want to block for him or really not try because of his actions. It's hard to police integrity I'm this situation but I know what you mean gambling is direct. This is so much larger though it includes so many words but one could make the argument very easily that while gambling affects the game directly integrity as a whole here with all these women is much broader and much worse.

The more I read the more trash he became. The NFL has been weak on cases involving women the judge should have used better judgement and broke precedents gone above and used her power as many great people in history have done to set a new standard and then called out the NFL like she did anyway. Unless the NFL basically is the maffia and set this all up as a dog and pony show.

The suggestion by the independent arbiter was 6 games. He'd be fined game day checks for those 6 games. It's now up to the NFLPA or NFL to appeal the recommendation which the NFLPA said it won't but the owners want a larger suspension so we're waiting on them.

No fine he probably loses 500k or less for missing those games because desperate Cleveland set his contract up in a special way. Wasn't that thoughtful. Huge difference how the Rams reward there players and how Cleveland rewards there's lol.

The NFL should pay him to go away, imo.
Until/unless he completely owns his behavior, he shouldn’t play.

That's one of the single biggest things rt there. That's a winner comment. He hasn't taken any responsibility or vowed to get help or make it up to woman he has been exactly the opposite a damn lying p.o.s. who seem unapologetic and not phased at all people like that though slip up somewhere some how.

Wow that’s not bad for Watson at all. Wonder how the media fallout is going with this? I just seen clips of his hearing with the guy that asks him a million questions. Was pretty crazy.

And on top of it all... remember.. this guy took himself off the field before the season and before the scandal broke and refused to play for the Texans.
His last year being off the field was all on him, so I couldn't care less about that.
Also.. the obvious, cynical structuring of the contract so that he took a minimal hit this year.. just gross.

It's strange to me that the NFL is taking most of the heat from what I saw and they're on record saying it should be more than the suggestion. Though some of the reason it's only 6 games is their previous bad moves on off field suspensions that weren't part of the drug policy.
