Was Watching '85 Rams/Bears, Then This!

Somehow I started watching a rerun of Rams 1985 NFC Championship game at the Bears.

Madden went nuts (literally) with the Telestrator. I full on cracked up!

That was Dickerson's run scheme for the entire game! I think he had 248 yards in a game before this one and they sure shut him down. That Bears D was legendary.

I didn’t like Maddens ridiculous side. The scribbling telestration was annoying and the All Madden teams were just dumb.

Otherwise I liked listening to him.

My bad Hilgenberg was the Center that blew up Ellard on the punt return breaking his ribs. Probably don't have fond memories about Tinglehoff and the Vikings of those days either lol.

Madden's partner, Keith Jackson, used the phrase "Whoa Nellie", and was famous for it. But Dick Lane, an announcer for KTLA in Los Angeles, Channel 5, coined that phrase in the 50's while calling wrestling and roller derby.

I still believe with Brock could've hit the slants to Ron Brown the Rams could've won that game. That's how the Dolphins beat the Bears that year. Rams had the defense, had the Offensive Line, just did not have the Quarterback. As much as I loved Dieter Brock.

I have always said "what if" Dieter hits Brown on that pass.

He would have been gone. No one would have caught Brown.

He actually said Dickerson would lay it on the ground three times. And he was close -- I believe he coughed it up twice.

The Maddenism I remember from that game was when he said something to the affect of... "That was a duck to Passworth"... Meaning a bad throw by Brock to Bobby Duckworth.

Had such high hopes for that game, only to have them dashed, once again.

We crushed the Bears the previous year during the reg season with the mighty Jeff Kemp at QB. ED rang up a buck fifty and 2 TD's on pretty much the same Bear D that was so dominant in '85.

Dieter Brock delivered one of most embarrassing performances by a QB in NFL playoff history. IIRC it was, thankfully, his last game as a Ram.

...and for the record - and perspective, John Robinson was no Sean McVay.

While Robinson was respectable as the head coach, he never really got the job done either. On the other hand, the Rams did not have the ownership skills or the front office that exists now, either. The Rams are in a real special position these days!

We would've beat the Patriots. Not a 46-10 beatdown like they got from DaBears, but they weren't a great team(Pats). Of course, that Rams team was flawed as well at QB so there's that.

I remember thinking we had a shot vs DaBears and that our D was good enough, and that ED would have a decent game. We'd win something like 13-10
Oops.

'85 could have been LA's first Super Bowl win.
