I am shocked and gutted! I love the positive response of many here and agree that we should maybe pivot to signing one of the best 2 CBs available which is another way to generate sacks.

That said, Von was special down the stretch and gave us a fearsome pass rush as good as we have seen since that Denver defense! What a shame but the Bills look primed and so it is understandable even if he will not realise what he’s missing until he has eaten in Buffalos two great restaurants and frozen his arse off in a park!

We cannot replace him and so should look at how we can turn our backfield into a dominant group instead. My only reservation in signing a CB is it would offset the 3rd round compensation for Von

I wouldn’t sign Wagner as good as he is because MLB has been proven not to be as important as CB or OLB in our system

I agree.

That said, can you imagine our run D with Wagner and E Jones on the inside???

After sleeping I am still here; Thats a lot of money for 33 yr old Miller.

Maybe the Bills did us a favor?

There are other ways to build our 2022 championship defense.

14 games played last year and 4.5 sacks.
Rams would have been better keeping Joseph-Day.
Chandler Jones and both GB rushers are signed I believe.
Any reasonable options left out there besides Fowler and Clowney in your opinion or are the Rams going be re insert Hollins or go with a committee?
SJD isn't a better edge rusher than Fowler, though. With A'Shawn and Gaines stepping up down the stretch, SJD's spot was basically filled.

Outside of Fowler and Clowney, the options are basically aging guys who may or may not be over the hill (Justin Houston, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, etc.) or young guys who have flashed but never reached their potential (Derek Barnett, Kemoko Turay, etc.).

One of the things I'm noticing is Rams fans shooting for the stars, the next most expensive player/s with the money once allocated towards Von Miller. I could see the Rams nailing down near on 2.5 to 3 players with the same or similar money, and while they're not the name players people have come to expect, they are talented, less expensive and younger.

1) TE - Austin Hooper
2) CB - Rasul Douglas
3) Edge - Arden Key

I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of the above came in at under $20.mil. or close to it.

Hooper is 27 y.o. and had the same QB as Njoku & OBj. Him at TE2 behind Higbee could be ideal.

Douglas is 26 y.o. had a very strong 2022 season and is likely the most expensive of the 3 mentioned here.

Key is 25 y.o. and a very strong pass rushing rotational player. While others talk about desiring the most expensive CB's left on the market since we face such strong AFC passing QB's in 2022, they seem to somehow neglect how we might still get after the QB now that Von Miller is no longer in the picture.
jmo.
Gotta remember that we play the comp pick game, though. Hooper fits well into it because he's a cut. I think the two others are FAs and would hurt us in the formula.

Are you a native New Yorker?
Yes... been here my whole life. Getting ready to retire, hopefully this year, then we will start to look around.

Last comment about Vonn Miller... now we know why Denver signed Randy Gregory.. they were not going to match Buffalo. And Buffalo plays a 4-3 defense IIRC... what position will Vonn play.. DE? He will never match the success he had playing next to AD. Finally, he will never see the third year of that contract. Rams have plenty of other options now. Go Rams!

Clowney or Fowler, then Wagner & maybe Jenkins and the defense is all set.

I’m glad the Rams didn’t overpay. Hes 33 and it showed last season. Until playoff time, he didn’t impress me much. Had 5 sacks his whole time here not counting. Wish him nothing but the best. But 20mil a year is fucking stupid. He isn’t 26.

I know some on here are Dodgers fans. Ill trade Von for Freeman....LOL

I do hope we sign maybe a Wagner or bring back Fowler. Face it anyone next to Donald will look like an All Pro.

Thanks Von for what you did for us. FWIW I think we win SB 56 with or WO VM.

Go Rams

I have no beef with Miller, who has every right to get as much money as the market will bear, and I have no regrets about trading for him, as he was a key to our winning a championship.

The only part of this story that I find myself reacting negatively to is the spin that this was a very "emotional decision" for Von.

Oh, please.

If this was about "emotions," he'd be back with the Rams, the team that he just won a ring with, or the Broncos, his longtime team. Going to the Bills was 100% about going to the contender willing to write the biggest check. That's not an emotional decision, that's a business decision.

We used you, Von. You used us. All fair.

Nobody should be crying about it.

Hooper is heck of a blocker.
He would be a fantastic signing. Not that I want to trade Higbee, but if they signed Hooper they could listen to offers on Higs

Which is why the Rams were smart not to match it, because due to the guarantees, because Buffalo will still be paying for that third year.

Obviously I know Joseph-Day is a different position than Edge. I mean, they didn't spend money on him to help keep their DL rotation in tact and didn't keep Miller......so, a lose lose.
Dont want any of the old guys.
Gaines evolving is a God send.
Will be interesting to see if the Rams do anything in terms of an Edge like Clowney or Fowler....of the two I would take whoever was better against the run....I would assume that is Clowney.
I have a feeling they won't spend big money on anyone left out there now though.
Might be another spot, like RG, filled from in house.

Like when the noted bigot Reggie White was the hot free agent when leaving Philadephia. He blathered on about praying about and praying about it.....what do you know, God wanted him to go where the most money was.
Typical bullshit.
If its just about the money, I think most people understand that.....I certainly do.
Pretending its not and trying to spew some "Im a great guy" spin is lame.

If they get Clowney, they should get a cheap situational rusher who only comes in on 3rd and long.

Or will Garrett or Lewis be able to fill that position?

I don't begrudge any athlete chasing the dollar. Without him, we don't win the Super Bowl. I wish he was coming back, but we'll find a way to replace him.
