I think Stafford won the "ass" Sweepstakes Award last night.... Semi-Finalist to D.J. Humphries, and Honorable Mention Sean McVay.
I think we have to start to realize his missed throws might become a more common occurrence due to age. Hey, you lose a little. A 28 yr old Stafford probably makes a few throws that 38 yr old Stafford will miss. It's just reality.

I do think early on, that first INT, he had some of the yipps due to his concern over Humphries. He was trying to get rid of the ball like it was a hot potato. And McVay was more conservative with his playcalling over those same concerns.

I heard Raheem Morris had the game ball sent to the rams locker room for Humphries.
The guy needed to play and Jackson needs to be 100 for the playoffs. Would you rather that was his play in a playoff game?

He's gonna play in the Cards game too. If Jackson goes down again, Humphries has to play!!!

Could Acuri be any worse than Humphries?

If you watched the post game presser, McVay showed a lot of restraint not calling out Humphries and Stafford by name. Stafford has bailed McVay out of some horrible play calls so I get it. But you can tell by Stafford's post game presser that he got an earful and owned up to how shitty he played. He looked and sounded the worse he has all year and rightfully so - he shit the bed.

Why not use our TO’s before Atlanta crossed the 50 yd line for the game winning FG

Could have given our offense another minute or so to go down and do something. McVay just let the clock run down….like he was sure they were going to miss the FG. Weird.

Am I missing something??
Agreed,
The idea that the opponent will mismanage the clock or mis a field goal just doesn’t translate often enough.
Play to protect the clock seems to be the better approach

I dunno about that.
MLB umpires have been taking WAY more crap from players AND managers for years.
I think the NFL protects these guys and gals far too much.

Sometimes a little verbal abuse is the required incentive for paying better attention to the play.
I agree. Yet I also believe that like you said the league protects them way too much. Which imo can lead to a sense of empowerment. It happens all around us in other facets of life. If you allow a certain person, company, politician, etc to not be held accountable, there is no accountability, allowing for further unacceptable performance.

DJ Humphries was an embarrassment. Hopefully that’s the last time we bring in AZ Cardinals castoffs.
Our depth is not good enough. To some extent that's why you call it depth. But for all our complaints about Noteboob he at least was capable of masquerading as a legit OT in spot duty. Humphries all I can say is why not just pay a random cabbie or the hotdog vendor to come in there and do the job.

Not having Dotson on top of that, with 40% of the OL being new and not on the same page, means you're gonna have shaky protections. And it's not like our protections have been great this season. They really have been more along the lines of adequate with strong run game production.

But the biggest problem was the options in the pass game. Without Adams out there all a defense has to do is smother Nacua. Stafford was completely out of synch with the depth options and in fact played like dogshit overall, in a game where they needed him to be the difference. Stafford's value is his combination of big balls in key moments, ability to play through pain, and that arm he can lean on when necessary to make up for being late on a route or just forcing that ball in there. He's not a ball placement savant, which is why he does better with bigger receivers.

And defensively they have completely disintegrated in key moments. The rush has largely been ineffective in those moments, and the secondary predictably can't cover their own ass when that rush isn't there. So when you get into a game like this one, or some of the others they have dropped, where you are waiting for someone to make a goddamn play to reverse the momentum late, it basically means it has to be Stafford. And he's not gonna get it done every time, particularly when it's throwing to a group of depth options who are hit and miss at best, and somewhat overrated by the faithful.

Lastly if this sounds like I'm making excuses for 9, I'm not. He's the team leader. He's the best player who should be making the plays in those key moments and he fucked it up. But when you look at a title team what you have are multiple dudes who are capable of stepping up in those big moments, in each phase of the game, and they're all competing to be the one who does it. Teams who only have one or two they are relying on tend to not be title rosters.

This is where not having Adams really hurt us. And on defense we need dudes to step up and get the heat or sack or pick or force the fumble in the right moment. On teams we need the punt where we pin the fuckers back on their 1 yard line, or the kicker to nail that 50+ yarder. And so on.

I thought McVay played that perfectly, had he taken a time out after they made the 1st down Atlanta could have run the clock to 6-8 seconds before kicking the FG

.

Matt Stafford MVTT.

And Puka, thanks for opening your big mouth about the refs. Dopey motherfucker.

.
Yeah I kinda blame Puka for the referee treatment lately. He should have just kept his mouth shut. The rest of the world already knew how shitty the refs were without his comment. Very stupid decision that is now biting the team in the ass. Now I just wouldn't call him a dopey motherfucker tho but an idiot at that moment he made the comment, yes :laugh2:

I want to know why Shula insists on rushing only 3 against these types of QBs.

If you give Cousins 5 seconds, he will destroy you on the short passing game.

We should at minimum have rushed 4 guys or even 5 guys. Cousins couldn't handle the pressure on those passes.

The only thing I am thankful for was that I did not attend this game, that would have even sucked more. I still have not given up on the Rams because miracles do happen. However, it sure would be nice to see these refs get their heads out of their arses.

Two games since he made that comment. Two games where we're on the shit end of that referee call stick.

Agree. Considering KW ran at 7.1 a clip and we came out slinging it with a busted offensive line.
Well considering our offense is predominantly built around play action passing, you have to have a run game to make it work.

McVay teams do go through stretches like this, even in their best seasons. Not usually in December mind you. And maybe this team just doesn't have what they need to make a run in the playoffs. But if the Rams can get healthy I still believe this team has just as much of a chance as any of these others. Even from the bottom of the playoff seeding.
