It's the coverage. You can play soft but make it look pre-snap that you're playing tight man then drop back. What I've seen on 3rd and 3 is a corner 10 yards back. The corner comes up after the snap but by then, the receiver has the ball, the first down and some momentum.
That's exactly what I have been trying to say.

Really shitty play calling in the red zone.

4 trips 0 TDs, 3 FGs and a turn over.
Stafford missed two EASY TDs down there. Two. That changes the game completely.

The only one I saw that could have been was to Higby and he had a defender in his face so not easy but doable.

What other one did you think should have been?

I did not see much of Taylor Rapp after his missed tackle on Samuel. Unsure if it was injury or poor performance related, but it seemed he was benched. That would be a huge positive. I don't mind Rapp as a player, but in coverage he is a liability, which is how Morris seems to want to use him. Has been for years now. It's nothing new. Hopefully, Morris finally is realizing it.

We won a championship with Stafford + McVay.

So obviously that marriage worked.... I'll forever be greatful for last season.

All that out of the way - McVay has allowed Stafford to turn the Rams offense into the Stafford Lions offense. If Stafford was playing at a very high level and was in his comfort zone - great, let your QB do his thing.
But he hasn't been consistently great, just consistently reckless with the ball.
Imo McVay needs to get back to McVays offense - using plenty of presnap motion, creativity and a meaningful use of the run game with play action

Could be hard without Robert Woods. And without a clearly above average RB, let alone a star like Gurley, a talent like pre-injury Akers, or even a complete bowling ball like CJ Anderson.

I think your post brings up a really good point - our offense does have a very Stafford-Lions feel at present. Unorganised. Reckless with the football. Stafford zeroing in almost exclusively on one very talented WR.

But I don't think reverting to the old Rams offense is going to be feasible or the answer with this personnel group.

We need McVay to come up with something fresh. What that is, I do not know, because with this battered o-line the options are sverely limited, and you are almost handicapped schematically, as your scheme has to focus so heavily on protecting them. But McVay gets paid millions of dollars to figure it out, is allegedly an offensive genius, and literally has football as his full time job so he has all day to work on it. Let's get it done, Sean.

EDIT - I don't think McVay called a bad game last night btw. We moved the ball decently well against an elite defence on the road, maybe the best in the NFL, with an o-line of backups and in some cases 3rd stringers. We just stalled in the red zone. Go look at how other teams have fared vs. that SF defence... it is not pretty. To win that game we needed to be opportunistic, cashing in on our red zone trips, and have the defence play well. Neither occurred.

So far we have lost to the Bills and 49ers. One is a really good team and the other just has had our number recently so not extremely surprised there. It didn't help that we got hit hard with injuries on both sides of the ball, but if we can keep things afloat, the Rams will get better.

I’m real glad tutu is killing it out there and we didn’t take Humphries with that 2nd rounder I mean it’s not like we couldn’t use him right now (blue font)
Hence why a lot of us were pissed we took Tutu instead but that poor horse is being resurrected and killed over and over like Adam Sandler in the beginning of Little Nicky hahahahaha

A positive: Jackson looks great at RG! The corollary of that, however, since this is the vent thread: what the heck is the coaching staff watching in practice for him to have been so far down the depth chart?

Bobby Evans is the weakest link on the o-line. He kept looking back at Stafford for instructions on who to block and he always get ran over by every Niner.

He had Kupp 1 on 1 with a linebacker and stafford hit him in the ankles

I don’t believe he was looking for ‘instructions’.

On the road, with a loud home crowd, opposing offenses use a silent count. In the shot-gun, a guard is assigned to look back at the QB for a signal that the QB is ready for the snap. The guard then motions his arm forward and into the center’s view so the center knows he can snap the ball.

Corbett had that responsibility last year. Edwards had it last week; and Evans last night.

That’s not why he was looking at Stafford, he was triggering the silent count.

Yeah, it's why I said way before the season that they should have cut bait with him. Evans has had many opportunities to prove himself and has done nothing. McVay seems to have a problem with getting rid of obviously weak lineman like him a la Demby. McVay needs to give new blood a chance if we are that injured among our line. You can hit gold by doing so as some players seem to show out much better on game day vs practice for whatever reason.

That was not an easy play the LB was hanging all over him and Stafford had to throw the ball before Kupp was ready.

What is there to vent? This team isn’t healthy enough to compete with top units, like the Niners defense.

All there is to do is hope they get healthy and stay in the playoff chase.

Dont need to inflate my own ego by starting a thread to share my thoughts, so Ill leave right here....
Defense was not great, but was not the overall problem. Gave up 17 points, 3 scoring drives. That said, Wagner looks like he's running uphill on beach sand, and the missed tackles were mind blowing
The problem with the team, is the offense. And no, its not just a matter of decimated O-line issues. Guess what? San Fran has them too, didnt seem to bother them. The play calling is atrocious, what works are the quick hitting plays, and as soon as they are hitting a groove, a long developing play comes in and kills the drive. Biggest issue of this team for the last 4-5 years was short yardage, and guess what? They looked awesome running the ball on those. What didnt work are these god damned trap delayed handoffs that get blown up.
Where's the Allen Robinson I read about? Sure the throw to him in the EZ wasnt great, but he didnt high point it, he miss timed that jump badly which allowed the d-bag, I mean d-back to make a great play. And like @den-the-coach said, can you stay on your feet??
The difference between the approach yesterday was night and day. For all the crying we do about the corners playing 10 yards off? Shanahan attacked the middle. Garoppolo biggest throws hit the middle of the field, then they hit the corners later.
Stafford has to play better, period. Big time QB's play when things arent perfect.
Oh and last thing, sorry Blanton but you gotta go. Bring up Carter so we can have a TE who can block
