When OBJ is re-signed, there will be too many WRs.

There’s Kupp, Woods, OBJ, Van Jefferson, Skowronek, Harris, Koski, Akers, Brandon Powell, Warren Jackson, and Atwell in 2022.

So the receiving corp is too crowded for even VJ and Atwell to have the ball thrown to them.

And someone here pointed out, once a WR is used to catch with his body, it’s more likely that he’ll continue to catch with his body and will not catch it with his hands.

IDK, I think VJ can be used as trade because there are needs at other positions with upcoming FAs that the Rams have to sign and be under the cap. And with an abundance of receivers, they can get a decent draft position out of it.

I would rather trade Woods than Van. Woods is going to be thirty, he's coming off of an injury, and I have a lot of confidence in Van being a solid number three receiver/deep threat. Woods, even with his injury, would return a second round pick himself.

I'd also think about moving Skowronek to an H-back role. He's an excellent blocker in space, solid size and hands, not the fastest. He'd fit in that role. I still like Jacob Harris' potential. I don't think they give up on Atwell after one year. I still want to see what Blanton can do in Mundt's role. And I'd definitely look into the tight ends this year. In fact, that would be my first choice for a pick; Higbee could be a trade/cut candidate next year due to his contract.

Yeah in the NFL receivers have to go get the ball. If you wait for it to your body you're giving the DB more time and opportunity to disrupt the catch or even just position to make the tackle. This is the big boy league.

But again just the way Van is, he seems like the kind of guy who is gonna keep busting his ass. So I'm betting he makes that adjustment in his technique.
I think there are positions and situations where body catching is more appropriate than going out of your way to make a hands catch though. The best receivers like Kupp seem to be able to decipher which is the better option between the two depending on the throw and the location of the defenders.

I don't think it's certain that OBJ comes back. Would be fun.. but a unit with Woods, Kupp, VJ, Skow, Harris and Tutu should get the job done.
They might keep OBJ.. but they might not.

While it's possible, I hope upon hope Woods stays.

His trade value will be low as he didn't have the stats prior to the injury while WE know he's the heart and soul of our offense.

I'd rather have a WR room with Kupp, Woods, OBJ, Van, Skow, and Harris. I don't think Atwell makes the roster, but is put on the PS.

Van is exactly the kind of receiver to spell Woods and Kupp. I don't want Kupp having the same wear and tear on him as he's had this year. It's too much.

I'd rather go lean other places, but yeah.

Of the three folks I'd like to retain, they're Von Miller, OBJ and Sony Michel. I think a dual threat backfield of Akers and Michel would be ridiculous.

I won't sweat how we get there. I know that Matthew Stafford isn't focused on his contract or making tons more money. I think after 12 years of losing, he's all about winning and he's clear that huge QB contracts make it very hard to keep that extra one or two players that can make a difference.

The question I have is how we keep big Whit if he wants to stay since we really need to retain Boom.

Mackeyser,
I've actually been doing a lot of thinking about this very situation and the scenario I've come up with is not going to be popular with most on this board. I think after the season it's time we say adios to big Whit. I mean I love the guy (what Rams fan doesn't...) but it is time to sign Boom long term and move him into the starting lineup.

Like I said this isn't going to be popular but I don't want to lose Boom and try and find a decent LOT to protect Staff's blind side. Ain't nothing worse than having to reach to try to fill a hole......especially when we've got big Whit's replacement already on the roster.

Look money is going to be tight and we are up against the cap already. Whit's 10 million goes a long way to filling holes and keeping the team in the hunt.
Just sayin'

Yeah, that'd be my ultimate decision, because I'd rather keep Von Miller, OBJ and Sony Michel.

Now, if we could keep them AND Big Whit, I'd be fine, but I gotta feeling that we're gonna be feeling some losses.
