I thought this was gonna be a praise thread for a 2nd year guy having 700 yards + 6 tuds as the #3 receiver.

702 yards / 6 TD’s on a team with a lot of passing options. Not done yet. Very nice statistical leap in year 2 for Jeff!

He's been reliable with the reps he's given, will be a cause for concern though in the playoffs once DBs see that in the film room and exploit it.

Glad to see Skowronek stepping up though as a reliable #4 and doesn't seem to be a dropoff with Jefferson.

I think he's our best 3rd since Proehl. It's also only his second season. The ceiling is very high for Van imo.

At one point Kupp was technically our #3 WR. I feel ya though and think Jefferson is definitely up there. I can't name more than 4 receivers since the GSOT that were better than him while they played for us. All 4 of those are from the McVay era as well. Kupp, Trees, Cooks, OBJ. It remains to be seen if he will be better than Cooks; however, I think the potential is definitely there. Cooks only put up the numbers he has because he was in offenses designed to get him the ball. Considering that, are his career numbers even all that impressive? Look at Trees numbers as a #2 wr. Van Jefferson will be better than Cooks ever dreamed....mark my words.

His hands better get a lot more consistent for that to be true. During a 3 or 4 game stretch earlier this year he dropped 5 or 6 passes that he had 2 hands on the ball. Some of them were difficult catches but like Troy Aikman said you have to make those catches that's your job you're a professional football player .

Obviously he’s had a decent season, but there’s something about his game that bugs me, and I’m curious if any of y’all noticed it as well…

It seems he always catches with his body, rarely attacks the ball with his hands. I’ve noticed it all year with multiple drops he’s had, and bobbles after the ball hits his body.

It stuck out to me last night when he made that catch in the middle of the field, it was clearly a ball he should have attacked with his hands, but caught it with his body and it bobbled a bit, with his dad being an NFL WR coach I would think he would attack the ball more.

I know some people may not care, but I have definitely realized it is caused him to drop a few. I know all catches can’t be with the hands, but it’s something I hope is addressed.

I think Cooks had 4 straight 1000 yard seasons, but give Van time.

Also agree Brandin Cooks was in some really good situations. However. I think Cooks deserves more credit.

If he get 55 more receiving yards this year (currently on the COVID-List), Cooks will be over 1,000 yards in six of the past seven seasons, with 78-plus receptions in all but one of those years. Furthermore, even with the concussion-concerns, Cooks has been durable ... missed only three games in the past seven seasons!

Not when you have shoulder pads that continue down to a breast plate for the ball to bounce off of. To many hard surfaces on the body. Almost always better to catch with your hands. Some exceptions. Holt had a drops problem when he started out and he just lived with the ball machine slinging passes at him.

Hey, I don't disagree with you at all bub! Of course he needs work still. Cooks dropped two big time passes in the SB. I mean...there is definitely a reason that he's been through so many teams in his career. Cooks is a B-rated wr through and through who flashes A- at times. I'd argue that Van Jefferson is already a B- who flashes B+.

I'm not saying he's the best thing since sliced bread, and I'm not saying Cooks sucks....far from it on both accounts. I'm just trying to be realistically optimistic about our youngster.

Fair enough.
But our coach would always tell the quarterback to aim for the numbers and catch it in your gut, (if possible).

Of course you use your hands and arms for balls that are mis-targeted.

In my opinion, it's as easy for a ball to go *through* your hands and it is catch it with your hands.

Maybe for middle schoolers but the ball should be caught in your fingers tips away from your body

Young guy that just needs to polish his game. Once the game slows down for him he'll probably be our #2
