It looks like there is some momentum for an update to the NFL overtime rules. It's possible these changes only apply to the playoffs, where 10 of the last 12 OT playoff games have been won buy the team that won the coin flip.

I'm not sure why people are so against the college format? They should just have no kicking extra points from the very first drive. This way the game would move quick like a shootout in hockey or Soccer.
I understand the teams don't want their players on the field for 10 or 15 minutes with kickoffs etc. so this would get it moving. I think the college format is exciting. JMO

IDK, I think it's good for college, but not the NFL...What's next Ghost Runners on 2nd base? Again I have gotten used to college and it works there, but IMO I don't think that will work for the NFL FWIW.

I like the way they currently are.

Bills had ample chances to win against the Chiefs, but their D screwed up both in regulation and OT. The Bengals stopped them in OT next week.

No need to get butthurt about not getting the ball because you team's D couldn't make one stop.

I like giving both teams an offensive possession. Both teams get a chance with the ball during the game, but then they sometimes don't in overtime. I don't like that. There have been a few huge games with worn-down defenses where it seemed very obvious that the coin toss winner would win the game.

Imagine baseball said if the 1st team who bats scores, then the game is over. Or in hockey, if your first shooter scores in the shootout, the game is over. Not perfect comparisons, but I still see value in giving both offenses a chance in any sport.

I’m okay with the current rules, the defense gets paid too. But if we have to change them, one possession each including a kickoff and then whoever scores first.

I don’t like college. You’re in FG range after 1 first down. It’s not fair to the defenses. Driving 75 yards is a different story.

I like the option of both teams getting the ball. Yes, the D is part of the team too, but, a lot of teams are offense centered and it gives them a disadvantage simply based upon a coin landing wrong.

Both teams get one possession each is a better idea. If the score remains tied next score wins. That's best for the regular season.

Playoffs let them play 15-minute quarters.
  1. January 2, 1982
The 1982 divisional playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the San Diego Chargers is still remembered as one of the most grueling contests in all of professional sports.
The Chargers jumped out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead, but the Dolphins went on a 17-0 run in the second.
The teams traded blows over the next two quarters, with the Chargers taking over with 4:39 left in regulation and down by seven points.
Chargers quarterback Dan Fouts tied the game with a touchdown pass with less than a minute remaining and tight end Kellen Winslow blocked Miami's potential game-winning field goal to send the contest into overtime.
In the extra period, the teams traded missed field goals before kicker Rolf Benirschke connected on a 29-yarder to give San Diego a 41-38 victory.

The NFL has become so much more an offensive game. It's too easy for the team that wins to score a TD against a tiring defense.

The titans proposal is the most fun. If the super bowl had gone into OT, and we won the toss, got the ball - and scored a TD - would you go for 2?

As I continue to enjoy the Rams SuperBowl glory...I opted that each team get a possession.

If the defense get a safety...or a TO resulting in a score...GAME OVER!!!
