Have to consider trade options that pop up and the draft.

Who knows maybe Shanny picks up Goff next yr and beats McVay with his own guy.

It's no secret that hypothetically, if Goff could go play QB anywhere he wanted... it'd be in SF.

I'm still not convinced that the Lions intend to keep him this year.

The more other teams are navigating the waters looking for a QB, the more Stafford looks like a prize (and Goff, too, by extension).

Teams like the 9ers, Colts and Bears? Oof.

Really makes me wonder if the 9ers are contemplating sending Nick Bosa, another player and 3 1sts to the Texans for Watson... or if they gonna ride the Jimmy G train for another season...

If I was San Francisco I would make that trade. Boss is a top player but he’s not AD. Plus their defense played well without him last year.

Three firsts are no big deal to them. Lynch has drafted very well all through the draft including his free agent signings. They have a very solid team. They would have to trade Bosa just to offset the cap I’m guessing. They let Buckner go in a trade instead of paying him. They were just in a Super Bowl and once fully healthy they have a better roster than they did in 2019.

Trading for Goff could make sense too, in that they have the offensive line to give him the time he needs, and his trade value would be much lower.

But we always say this. If a team has a chance to get a franchise type QB then they should do it.

I’m surprised that we aren’t hearing about the Steelers being in the conversation for Watson. They have a great D but Ben is not passing them past Mahomes. That should be every good teams goal. If you have a contender what will it take to get better than the best teams in your conference.

I wonder if Shanahan is also considering that Trey Lance could be within reach for him in this draft.

They'd likely trade him prior to the league year beginning, and thus paying him the roster bonus, or if they agree to pay the bonus, it would also make Goff much more attractive in a trade.
Interesting
Chicago and Indianapolis are both without the starting QB who played in the playoffs, they'll have to get somebody

If you look at the other reported best offer (from Carolina), Detroit valued Goff at first to second round value (depending on how you discount the future picks). As more starting QBs leave the market, supply drops, and those in need will get more desperate.

Jared Goff will get his bell rung in Detroit and will be out of the league in a couple of years.

Detriot is a dirtbag organization and will get Jared hurt

Jared is a tough cookie. He'll be okay. (Plus, Detroit's OL is actually decent.)

If he's out of the league in a few years, it'll be because he wants out. Blaine Gabbert is still in the NFL at 31 years old, and he was a colossal bust. Matt Schaub just retired at 39 years old.

Bears have a championship caliber defense, with a short window of opportunity left (like the Rams), but currently have no QB. Cant think you can win with Foles, Trubisky is gone, they didnt pick up his 5th year option.
Wentz has played at an incredibly high level at times in the NFL, while the injuries are alarming, I think he's definitely worth the risk for a team like the Bears.
If this trade happens Wentz goes from possibly the most hate filled fan base to another rough fan base (Chicagoans love the Bears but boy they can bring the hate).

I lived in Chicago in 1992 for College. By the end of the 1st quarter the drunks were in full hate Mode. I did have a collectors coin from Mike Singletary’s last game. I gave it to a friend here in Colorado who is a life long Bears fan.

I can guarantee short of a Ray Rice incident, that Mayfield, Allen and Jackson are getting extended.

Brees may not have a choice. Even at a cap of $180M, the Saints are $107M over the cap. They may not be able to afford Brees coming back... Heck, his dead money hit is over $22M...

Great posts here, thanks. It has me thinking that the timing was as or more important than the actual exchange in value.

In the NFL in particular, timing is huge! Most NFL front offices (FOs) are followers---not leaders---in that they prefer to sit back and wait to see what the leaders do before they act. Hence, we find the NFL often referred to as a "copycat league." With Les, Kevin, and Sean navigating the U.S.S. Horns, the Rams FO has morphed into NFL leader status. Les has been extremely effusive in his praise for Sean's ability to inform him with the exact qualities Sean wants for desired player positional needs. This makes it ridiculously easy for Les and his team of scouts to quickly zero in on players fulfilling the necessary qualities. As always, Kevin is a wizard with the contracts. It's a beautiful FO synergy.
