Waiter,

This thread isn't very good. Can we have another one?

I truly believe it's mental illness, and I feel for him and his family if it is. Mental illness is a lifelong struggle, and it affects more than the people who have it.

On the former you could be right. On the latter - definitely. Hope you're doing well Mems. It was good seeing you at the game last year.

I'm doing all right. Spending more time at hospitals than I'd like, but just had surgery today to hopefully help me stay out. Hope you and your family are doing well, 503. It was an honor to be at that game.

So, I happen to be a mental health professional (and not just on the internet!). And I can't really diagnose anyone I haven't seen... but since I've been doing it so much this election cycle, I'll give it a try here. ;)

Bizarre delusions, disordered thinking, irrational anger, change in personality can all be hallmarks of Delusional Disorders, of which, Schizophrenia is just one. Additionally, many of these symptoms can be drug induced (though I would argue cocaine is probably not the drug in this instance).

What is particularly scary for young men is that the incidence of having a psychotic episode (break) after using hallucinogenic does increase ever so slightly in the general population but increases a bit more if one has the genetic predisposition for a delusional disorder.

My best guess: he has had the first psychotic episode in what will probably end up being schizophrenia or some form of schizoaffective disorder. The pot probably egged it on. And the tragedy is that there was probably a low but significant probability that if he wasn't using pot and/or other substances he may never had that first episode. (Once you have one, the chances of more or continuous psychosis go up).

Coke use is very likely to cause this behavior, and if he is selling it, then even more so. I worked with young adults with problems and several were drug addicts. The Cocaine abusers were always the most agitated and paranoid. It is the opposite for pot smokers. They are laid back and in some cases delayed because they smoke too much.

I have always felt that, like you said, that the underlying symptoms are always there and drug use draws it out. It could be the same factors that make dealing with life so difficult in the first place and leads to drug use. It just becomes worse after drug use.

I hate to say it but I've known a few real talented people who have fallen victim to the coke - super talented people who end up with all the symptoms of depression and what most are speculating here as "schizophrenia"

Of course we are all guessing and it's like a 50/50 coin flip at this point - it's either mental illness caused by what doctors have called "Accute Gurley Fear" or it's freaking coke

Let's take a look at some medical cocaine analysis:

Mood symptoms:

  • Anxiety
  • Restlessness
  • Feelings of superiority
  • Euphoria
  • Panic
  • Irritation
  • Fearfulness
Behavioral symptoms:

  • Extremely talkative
  • Increased energy
  • Stealing or borrowing money
  • Erratic, bizarre behaviors
  • Violence
  • Abandonment of activities once enjoyed
  • Reckless and risky behaviors
Physical symptoms:

  • Decreased need for sleep
  • Increased need for sleep after usage
  • Headaches
  • Muscle twitches
  • Malnutrition
  • Abnormal heart rhythms
  • Constriction of blood vessels
  • Chronically runny nose
  • Nosebleeds
  • Nasal perforation
  • Hoarseness
  • Increase in body temperature
  • Increase in heart rate
  • Increase in blood pressure
  • Decreased appetite
  • Dilated pupils
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Gangrene of the bowels
  • Tremors
  • Cravings
Look I hope the guy gets the support he needs and gets back on the field but I am pretty sure whatever malady he's suffering from is self inflicted

Exhibit A: BLOND DREADS
Worst fashion choice ever - now do you blame the blonde dreads in schizophrenia or on pure vanity

I say Pure Vanity and that along with the drafting of Todd Gurley set the dude off somehow - sleepless nights? Punching holes in the wall, Maserati, irrational babbling, etc -- it all spells drug abuse drug abuse drug abuse - and as a guy that likes his ganja I can't see any symptom that you can blame on pot, but yet he's been busted for weed - so you know right off the bat the dude likes a good high. But the symptoms he's displaying aren't pot symptoms but freaking cocaine

The reason he is not reporting is he'll fail a drug test pure and simple

I could care less about the cause of Tre's actions. What I care about is how it affects the Rams. He's acting like a nutjob so I want the Rams to move on from him.
Weather it a re-hab center, a sanitarium or jail, its time for Rams to move on without Tre. He's obviously in no shape to play football.

"Joe, Tre is making some really weird Cooing noises. Maybe he shouldn't come do drills with us."

"Don't be afraid, Bobby. Hacksaw used to make those noises at me, during practice in my last year with the Rams. He is just trying to rattle you."

"No. No, Joe. I think Tre is all coked up or something, like my brother Greg. Mom and dad caught Greg the other day with a goat in his room....

Tre Mason - RB - Rams
Rams RB Tre Mason was charged with operating an ATV on public roads and fleeing officers after an incident on July 27 in Palm Beach, Florida.

Mason's bizarre offseason continues. Police were alerted that Mason was driving an ATV erratically in a public park. Mason, who was not wearing a helmet or any eye protection, soon led officers on a lengthy chase and locked himself in his home when police followed him to his house. After a long standoff, a family member eventually convinced Mason to come outside. This is Mason's sixth run-in with police in the last few months. He's currently on the Rams' reserve/DNR list and has likely played his last game for Los Angeles.
